Quitting my job, moving to Thailand...
10-03-2011, 07:49 AM
And it feels fucking awesome. Today is my first day of official retirement.
Any of you fine gentlemen who are trapped in the 9-5 grind, but have doubts about taking the leap into the world beyond, trust me on this: You will not regret it.
Not on the first day at least.
Cheers,
Frost

25?!?!?
How in the world does someone save enough money to retire at 25 years of age?

Congrats. I quit my job at 26 with no defined plan one year ago and I'm still standing. It's not easy and it might not work but it's doable.
I'm actually heading to Thailand in Nov as well, indefinitely. Where you staying?

The first 60-90 days in a new country is generally great, especially if you haven't lived abroad before. That honeymoon period may be extend a bit further in a place like Thailand.
We'll be interested to hear your take on retirement after one year. That'll give enough time for some experiences and some thinking. Maybe it will be the best thing that you've ever done.

Awesome stuff Frost! It's indeed an exhilarating feeling!
Thailand will blow your mind, specially Bangkok. Have fun man. There are a ton of threads on Thailand, you may also check my Mini Retirement I thread where I basically spent 3 months there and had a blast last winter.
Welcome to the Good Life my friend!
Cheers.

Rah: I'm headed to bangkok and Chiang Mai for Nov-Dec (a month in each, unless I get tired of BGK sooner than that) and then taking off on a 2 month backpacking tour of Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos with some friends. Send me an email, freedomfrost25 at gmail, with your plans.
As for money, it's not like I have enough to actually retire, but I made decent $ and lived frugally for a year and a half, so i was able to sock away enough for a plane ticket and change. I have a few planned revenue streams that I'll be writing more about shortly, so i can hopefully take the mini out of this mini-retirement.
VP, thanks, I'll be sure to check out your threads before I go!
Samseau: I'm 26 now! Although I suppose my URL compels me to pretend otherwise, indefinitely =D

How much money are you leaving with after the cost of travel? How much do you think is necessary to pull a move like this off? I'm ready to get the fuck out of here as well.

I hope you know what the fuck you are doing Frost, because the job market in the US isn't going to be any easier to get back into should you return.
