They'll all have 'the gay experience' in common and this is the bulk of the friends that gay guys have.

Straight guys

- friends from work, school, family
- soy boys who want a gay friend for coolness factor

May be based on superficial stuff in common (work situation, for example). Gay guys are terrified of being judged and prefer to avoid situations where that can develop.

Straight women

Common interests/behaviors with gays:
- gossip, backstabbing
- drama
- navel gazing, attention whoring
- endless micro-analyzing of relationships (real or imagined)
- celebrities, pop music, fashion, etc.
- irresponsible behavior: sex, alcohol, money, etc.
- no judgment

Women friends are especially common among 'bottom' guys

Years ago I worked door / security in what at the time was one of the biggest nightclubs on the East coast. (I actually worked there two summers during college).



The owner, Peter Gatien, (pictured with eye patch above) had a string of nightclubs from Ft Lauderdale, Atlanta (Limelight, Petrus) New York (Limelight, Tunnel, Paladium) and more through the 80's and 90's

He is / was straight but one of the things that made his clubs so successful was that he 'd use drag queens and flamboyant fags to give the clubs what his marketing guy (gay) called the "splash of pincache" to promote the excess, debauchery, and hedonism that a super club embodies.

And it worked. Thered be a line literally 1/4 mi long on Fri and Sat night at the door. A constant flow of limos with celebs and VIPs rolling up too. Working the door was one of the most coveted security jobs because thirsty dudes would grease us to cut in. I (and each of the other door guys) often made over $1000 on a single night skimming $50-$100 a pop (Also pulled a ton of insanely hot chicks...but thats another tale)

The story was that in addition to the marketing purposes Peter got a kick out of seeing blind drunk middle aged business men leaving with the cross dressers ( knowing they had a surprise coming). There were about 10-12 that were on a list that got got in for free

Anyway, as young straight guys, we noticed that there was a core group of these tranny's and crossed dressers that always had a group of actual females with them. Some of the real girls were pretty hot. We discussed it quite a bit. It was intresting to see the dynamics. The girls were so eager to please the fags, and the fags were essentially tolerant of the girls because they knew that what drives the club. Real girls attract straight men. Straight men spend money

In hindsight I can see that part of what a certain number of otherwise heterosexual girl finds so attractive in a fag is not only the "safety" of the platonic nature of the dynamic but simultaneously the ambivalence and sometimes even open disdain of the girls by the fags.

She knows they wont ever be sexual, she likely knows she isn't really part of the "club". But to certain girls this is irresistible. The fact that the fags have zero emotional investment in whether the girl likes them or even hangs out with them is an example of how "not caring" is essentially chick crack.

I had a lesbian chick in my work shift a few weeks ago. Pretty fine asian girl, but with an unattractive deep voice. She was pretty fucking chill. She would say look at that ass on that girl over there, and be like "right " She was like a guy in a girl's body. And yes, nobody was trying to get at anyone (no sexual tension). After this experience, I get it why girls are friends with gays.

I knew this gay dude who was a manager at a retail shop. Always treated me well and called me mister "s teezy" despite it being overly formal and gave me the hook up on shit even though he wasnt supposed to. All around cool dude.

Eventually I realized this guy had a certain disdain / misogynistic hate for women. It was pretty funny to see. He knew that when I was around I was hitting on girls in his store or hitting on the tourist girls in the area. He always approved and encouraged it...

I remember one time I banged a girl from his store. Dude gave me a compliment saying I was a gentleman. All the ladies who worked at the store loved their gay boss. Usually in retail its the female bitch boss they hate unless they manage to become a favorite. (Either way the majority of the girls will have gripes /drama with the female manager)

Id say that if a gay guy can just be a cool dude girls are friends with because they're guys who dont want to fuck them. Simple as that. Usually guys and girls dont make great platonic friends because either the guy or girl wants more. Gay dudes bypass this issue.

Just like you can be friends with your female cousins,sisters,coworkers,boss,teacher or some other situation where it's agreed that sex isnt happening.

Id say the other component is that girls probably see being a flaming guy as fashionable...
