Why do all the blockchain projects use Medium for blogging?
04-06-2018, 01:33 AM
Crypto projects seem to have their own collection of apps:
- Medium for blogging
- Telegram / Discord for group chat
- Reddit for long form discussion
The part I don't understand is what strategic advantage does Medium give the company in terms of blogging?
Why would a blockchain project not just blog directly on their website.

Sorry to sidestep quickly... Vincent - you're in Colombia now? When did you quit Thailand? What's the story?

Just following the crowd basically.
And marketing because the familiarity makes an unknown project more legitimate in a potential investor's eyes. The reader will have seen blog posts on Medium before by successful, legitimate projects so seeing similar posts on Medium for this new, unknown project subconsciously gives the reader a false level of trust and familiarity in the new project.
Also, by not posting on Medium, it might convey that the team don't understand the crypto community so could be a red flag for investors.

Different cryptocurrency companies or developers are more active on different platforms. Some use slack, some telegram, etc, though I would agree in general Telegram seems to be the most popular.
I also see the same with medium, medium has some organic traffic and is almost a platform in itself as opposed to blogging on your own site or platform where your not going to get any of that organic traffic, it's also just simpler to setup in the same way its faster to setup a blogger blog than a wordpress blog.
At the end of the day I think early on many ico's and coins started using those platforms and they became the norm. A buddy of mine was recently rolling out an ICO', don't ask which its bullshit you dont want to invest in it, but anyway he didn't have a Telegram and I was like dude you need a telegram that's what people expect andthat's how they communicate so he got it so its just kinda become the norm

Medium has built-in traffic.
You write a Medium post, and you know that your content will be seen by people.
If you write a blog post on your personal blog, you have to drive your own traffic to the article, and it might not ever be seen by anyone.

Medium has a recommendation engine that recommends content similar to what you've read and liked before. If you follow a lot of crypto, you'll get more crypto.
And I'd imagine that people who invest in one oddball crypto would be much more likely to invest in another.
Finally, it's one of the few major platforms that hasn't kicked crypto off (unlike Google and Facebook ads).
