This is my point exactly. You have to have your ways and means locked down hard. Want to do drugs? Don't leave them in places they can easily be found. What if you're the one that ends up with some bad shit, or God forbid there's a fire in the apartment and you have to get out ASAP.

Don't want authorities at your house? The solution is not to sit next to a girl that might be dying and hope for the best. The solution is to get her the fuck out of your house. You take her to the hospital then you go home and clean your stash out (it's all in one place, right?) You flush the shit. It's going to be hours before the cops arrive, if they turn up at all, at which point you tell them "I'm happy to answer your questions but I don't consent to a search of my property just 'cause some chick took too many of her own sleeping pills".

This is what I'm talking about. You have to take control of situations like these, and the more ducks you have lined up in your everyday life the less you have to scramble to arrange the rest at the last second.

Sorry Brother, this simply is not true. In fact, in most states stricken hardest with the opioid epidemic, it's actually illegal for the police to charge you for drug possession if you report an overdose. Simply for all the reasons we're talking about here. For the exact reason OP posted this--so people don't do stupid shit like we just read. If it's not illegal, it's definitely against law enforcement policy.

All police are now issued Narcan, the drug treatment for opioid overdoses and a lot of times the police are the first people on the scene because they are actively patrolling the area. If time is of the essence, you don't want to deny them access to the patient. Someone's life is on the line.

Besides that, possession of a tiny amount of weed like you suggest is a friggin' citation. Like a speeding ticket. It's not even a drug charge.

My buddy dated a complete idiot with substance abuse issues in her past. He finally got free of it and she sent him a text two weeks later saying 'goodbye, I've had a nice life etc.' - short, cryptic but hinting heavily. He showed it to me saying he didn't know what to do.

I got on the mobile and dialled '111' (911 in Australia where I was at the time) and had a row with the operator about which service I needed. "I dunno it sounds like that would be an ambulance?" she responded 'no with something like this its called a 'concern for welfare' and the police will go there and make sure that she's okay."

Hung up. quite a few people got stressed and ripped into me for it .. a 'single mother' a 'five year old daughter that loves her', 'this is gonna f$%k up her child care!" I shrugged.

Half an hour later my buddy gets a call from the police. They broke in, found her, she'd OD'ed. Much later she'd have been dead. She was in hospital, no charges and she was reunited with her kid. Still has her to this day.

Had a gang leader and his cronies try and kick me to death once. People did a lot to try and get the case dropped. When it went to court it came out that he had been getting or and more out of control. He went to jail. Apparently he's tucked his tail between his legs since he came back out.

It takes an intervention. Thats what interventions are for. No interventions and eventually a lot more addicts would end up OD'ing and lots more try hard 'tough guys' would eventually end up killing or maiming someone.

No one gives a sh*t if you are a decorated cop or not the best citizen or whatever. You can reach out to helplines, talk things through with people who are qualified or that you trust. You do what you can to make people aware of what happened, you go through the same channels and authorities that a weasel or a war hero or any other guy whatever would have to go through, you leave it in the hands of those with the expertise and the weight lifts off your shoulders.
