When did you first realise that you were ageing?

When I realized that smoking 30 cigs per day and going to gym 6 days a week for two hours after three years off sports was not working. Had to cut the time in the gym....
When I was 25 was way easier to pull this out

When did you first realise that you were ageing?

So last night was pretty cool, I was walking down the hall in my building and a cute 21 yr old college student looked up at me, made eye contact, and said, "I love your hair, you've got great hair!"

Hell yeah! Third compliment on my hair in just a few days, I must be doing something right, haha!

It's a double edged sword: on the one hand, the answer is when I started to care about hairline or thinning. On the other hand, it coincides with the time in life I'm making hay and realizing that your stock has been rising as these little things (that don't really matter to women) start to arise.

Experience can only be gained by making mistakes, putting in the time, and trying things in life. No short cuts to gaining experience. Seems like mother nature has a balancing system. Imagine how unfair it would be if those more capable or rich could buy or easily acquire experience.

I realized I was getting older when I started feeling pain in my knees from years of long distance running. Older runners used to tell me to take it easy but I always thought that it would never happen to me.

Also quit drinking because it's just not the same as when you were younger.

I realised when I quit drinking about 18 months ago at 39.

Now I'm in a real hurry to make up for lost time.

When did you first realise that you were ageing?

- Can no longer work for long, endless hours.

- Have good money like never before.

- My sister called me and reminded me that today is her birthday and she is 30.

- I start thinking about family, marriage, kids and the heritage.

- I think more about family than small goals.

Ouch - did you stop running because of this? It seems I see many more older runners than I see older lifters, so I know some people are able to power through this. What ended up happening?

I started going gray at 21. If you’re primarily of Northern European ancestry and you have dark hair, odds are you’ll go gray early.

When was the first time I felt old? When I spent 2 or 3 hours laying on my back on a cold ass concrete floor trying to repair a car. I finished, and it was late so I went to bed. I could barely get out of bed the next morning due to aches and stiffness. I was 32 or 33 at that time. It took a day or two to recuperate from that. It was something I could have done a few years earlier and gotten up the next day and been fine. Since then, I now know that I have limits, and there’s an ever increasing price to pay for exceeding them.

A year or two later I started working in construction. In two months time I had massive increases in stamina and muscle mass. To the point where I was getting hit on by girls in their early twenties. My sex drive ramped up and I could go several times in a night. I then left construction for easier work and everything faded away physically. Two years later I returned to construction and found that the gains were much slower. I was more tired after a long day. Sex drive picked up a bit, but not much.

What I will say however is that although my body has slowed down, I’m mentally stronger than ever before. My mental strength pushes me to overcome physical obstacles and without the foolishness of pride. In other words, I’ll go on a 5-10 mile hike without proper conditioning, but it’s going to take me a while and I’m going to take several breaks along the way. Fuck you if you think I’m too slow.

I started balding at 17 and had to shave my head at 21, so I know how that feels.

Signs at aging can hit even when you're not old and I think that can make people feel older than are. I really believe that the physical effects of aging can be exacerbated by the mentality of "oh, I'm old now." I'm only 23, so the only thing I have to back that up is looking at some older guys give up and degenerate and some older guys like Rudebwoy look like 25-year-old powerlifters. That can't just be genetics.

The annoying thing is that when you are a classic man, this society likes to lump you with post wall girls who actually are old, while you aren't. An accomplished man ain't got no time for 30+ year old women (as potential wives).

I still run but nothing greater than 5 miles at most. Usually I do 3 miles once a week with 15 minute high tempo runs mixed with kettlebell and bodyweight workouts. The high tempo runs are still not that great because of the increased impact, but I can't help it -- I have to run. Running is a major stress relief and extremely enjoyable for me mentally and physically. Right knee bothers me from time to time but I take Ibuprofen to deal with it.

I've also started running in sandals for barefoot style and it's helped a lot. Xeroshoes sandals seem to work best for my type of feet. My marine buddy also worked with me to develop a more efficient and safer running style focusing on midfoot strike, using gravity, and focusing on pulling between strides instead of pushing. Seems to be working. People give me weird looks when they see me doing easy 7:30 min/mile pace in sandals lol.

I guess my perspective is that you gotta take care of your body so that you can maximize its use. You still gotta use it up and it's gonna degrade on its own, so I refused to stop running despite some knee pain.
