RIP Jerry Lewis

Jerry Lewis has dies, at the age of 91.

Quote:Quote:

Lewis reportedly died at his home at 9:15 a.m. Sunday, according to Las Vegas Journal-Review reporter John Katsilometes.

The comedy icon had faced health problems in recent years, including a hospitalization for a urinary tract infection in June. In the early 90s, Lewis reportedly underwent surgery for prostate cancer, and suffered a mild heart attack in 2006; he also suffered from pulmonary fibrosis in his later life.

Lewis first paired with singer Dean Martin in nightclubs in 1946, and the pair went on to enjoy a ten-year partnership that turned into one of the most iconic in Hollywood, ultimately producing films including My Friend Irma (1949), The Stooge (1951), Jumping Jacks (1952), Scared Stiff (1953), The Caddy (1953), Artists and Models (1955), Pardners (1956), and Hollywood or Bust (1956), among others.

The duo split up in 1956 after reported in-fighting, but publicly reconciled during Lewis’s Muscular Dystrophy Telethon in 1972. Martin died in 1995.

Lewis also scored major hits for Paramount in the late 1950s and early 1960s with films like The Sad Sack (1957), The Geisha Boy (1958), Don’t Give Up the Ship (1959), CinderFella (1960), The Bellboy (1960), and his biggest hit of all, The Nutty Professor (1963). In the 1970s, he suffered several critical misfires and professional setbacks, including his decision not to release his 1972 Holocaust film The Day the Clown Cried. During this period, Lewis also reportedly developed a more than decade-long addiction to painkiller medication, after fracturing his spine in a fall while performing for The Andy Williams Show.

In 1983, Lewis was cast in a comeback role as late-night host Jerry Langford opposite Robert De Niro in Martin Scorsese’s hit The King of Comedy.

He continued to appear in films and television shows sporadically throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, including guest appearances in episodes of The Simpsons and Law and Order: SVU.

Lewis also founded the Muscular Dystrophy Association Telethon in 1966 and hosted the program every year until 2010. The annual Labor Day fundraiser is reported to have raised more than $2 billion for the cause.

Lewis is reportedly survived by his second wife, SanDee Pitnick, five sons, and a daughter.

I remember that I was a fan of his when I was a kid. I ''discovered'' him by accident. After all these years I still remember how. During the summer, I was sitting with my grandmother. It was very hot outside, and we both were bored. I turned on the TV, and was browsing channels. An suddenly...my grandmother said...stay on that channel*. Why - that's right...Jerry Lewis. If I recall correctly...it was a movie ''A Magician in Japan''. Or something. All I remember is that I have never laughed so hard. It was an awesome movie. Fortunately...that station was broadcasting his movies on certain days, and I watched most of them. I still remember some of the scenes, which made me laugh. I remember one scene in which he was taking a parachuting course while in the Army (he was screaming for mommy in a very comic way, I think). I also noticed that Dean Martin is always with him, and I liked his persona.

He was truly unique, and he had his own sense of humor. He is not like all those ''comedians'' from Hollywood, who look and act like robots, and are gross (Amy Schumer, Cuck Rogen**...). Also, both he and Dean Martin seems to be Game aware (both on screen, and looks like in real life). For people like us, and people who want to be like us, they may be a good influence.

And finally, according to Wikipedia...it seems that he donated a lot to charities (he was not a slacktivist like today's celebrities), and was a Trump supporter (and quite Red pill, take a look how he speaks!).

RIP Jerry Lewis.

*It was HRT (state funded TV station in Croatia)
** I'm talking About Seth Rogen. Cernovich humiliated him severely on Twitter because...he was asking for trouble.

He managed to stick with his first wife for 32 years. When he was 57, he married a woman of 32. They were still together.

Most comedians have great game. It's because they are willing to take risks and aren't afraid to fail.

I will definitely be renting one of his movies this week.

Red pill all-American Jew, had he been our age he'd have fit right in on this forum. Not only was his humor a creative mix of slapstick, race, sex jokes, mixed with absurdity, but Jerry also married a Catholic woman and Christianity really rubbed off on him (although he never converted to the best of my knowledge). He actually let many of his sons convert to Christianity but kept his favorite son as Jew. He raised his family according to traditional patriarchal mold, Rousseauian Emile style, and loved working his trade.

Dude hated liberals, shit on them all day long, and was pretty much a zero-bullshit guy. His last interview he said Trump was a great guy, a showman, and he wouldn't accept any refugee over the death of a Frenchman or Englishman.

RIP to one of the greats.

My best Jerry memories were the comic books based on his antics in the 60's. Hilarious for a kid in the 'burbs who wanted to make sense of the world. The other was a chain of movie theaters based on his name. They were supposed to show "family" movies and failed miserably. Many of them became porn theaters when the original backers decided to cash out. This led to a legend that Lewis quit making films when he saw "Which Way to the Front?" on a double bill with "Deep Throat".

His corpse barely cold, Variety wrote this about him:

Quote:Quote:

Over the past 10 years of his life, the cranky icon’s reputation soured as he was forced to apologize for making a gay slur on camera during the 2007 telethon, continued to make racist and misogynistic jokes into his ’90s, and didn’t hesitate to share his right-wing political views.

That was the 3rd paragraph of the article. As if we needed any more proof that Hollywood is a liberal hellhole and there's a reverse McCarthyism going on.

I think this was when he and Dean Martin made peace sponsored by and in a Frank Sinatra televised show. What a bunch of guys all of them where. The world needs people like this, true talents and red pill to the bone. RIP Jerry, your movies where part of my childhood, that crazy smile will never be forgotten. Say hi to Dean, Frank and all the other greats from me. Thank you for all the laughs.

The fact that Variety felt it necessary to include Lewis' penchant to espouse right-of-center politics in its list of self-righteous haranguing is so indicative of the left's totalitarian thought-policing. Imagine, this neanderthal of a Mother Gaia-be-praised dying generation had the audacity to base his values of a belief system that cultivated Western Civilization and allowed it to prosper for 1000 years and place the well-being of his country above foreign invaders. How dare he.

I finally got around to looking up some of his movies. After looking for various rentals, I found The Caddy on Youtube. It's a Spanish version with Spanish subtitles, so you can watch it easily as the English speaking is still there.

The movie has Donna Reed in her prime. She was a dream. Donna Reed definitely represents a kind of woman who barely exists anymore. That's reason enough to watch it.

It also has cameos from a few great golfers from the time, like Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, and Byron Nelson.

I think I would have enjoyed this movie a lot at the age of eight or nine. Lewis has that kind of comedic appeal. I also a lot of the Abbott and Costello movies at that age. It was a good age to see them, and the comedy is very much the same.

Lewis was a master at physical comedy. His falsetto was kind of grating though. He seems to be playing a kid in the body of a grown man in this film. It sounds like that was a common theme for him. I suspect this style of comedy was just a reaction to the cynicism of World War Two, plus the widespread film noir of the late 1940's.

I also just watched The Nutty Professor. Some called this Lewis's best movie, and he certainly gives an excellent performance. He had a wide range of talents and abilities, and this shows them all.. It's a Jekyll-Hyde story. He plays a college professor who accidentally takes a formula that turns into a different personality. He goes from being the nerdy, accident-prone type like Steve Urkel to the suave, confident, and self-assured Stephan Urkel. He does a great job at both--it was very convincing.

Of course, he also has a love interest. She is played by the lovely Stella Stevens, who was in her prime as well.

Curiously enough, they don't seem to address the taboo of a professor trying to get with a student. This was the early 1960's. If there was a taboo, it is never mentioned.

It was very enjoyable.
