This is true.
Somehow being on away ice gives me more determination to win. Nothing to lose, everything to gain.
It is worth reminding myself of that even on home ice, where the comfort can lead to complacency.

A basic player observation that has been reinforced for me during my travels is the power of hip hop. I m not a hip hop kinda guy. But whenever the sets change from electronic to hip hop the mood of the crowd changes from serious party mode to fun and approachable mode. Girls start smile more, make more eye contact, and loosen up.
When sets change like this guys need to vibe with the music and ride flow of the crowd. The only numbers I got in Ukraine came during hip hop sets. And in Sweden, girls were showin me more love when R&B/hip hop music hit the club. Ride the hip hop vibe to your advantage playas.
The reason for this is because hip hop isn't good music to dance to. So people are going to be more open to talking and whatnot because there's nothing else to do. That's why some clubs purposely play them because it's not good music so people will drink more. If it was too good of a music no one would really drink or spend money. Remember, clubs are a business.
When electronic music is on, like you said people are more in a party mode, dancing around thus it's going to be harder to get a number as oppose to when they're standing around where they're going to be obviously more approachable. It's like saying getting a number from a girl that's sitting down is easier then when a girl is walking in a rush to somewhere. It's not that it's "easier" but because shes got nowhere to go so she's forced in a way to give a number because she doesn't want to come off as rude.

GB - that is some real music you are dropping there.
Funny thing last year when I was in Stockholm, I went into this club in the Stureplan. The deejays were dropping pure 70s funk all night, these cats knew all the words and didn't give a fcuk.
