This is a 10th century work, so it doesn't have the loaded modern clash of civilizations political bias that you find in many 20th century works or more recent sources. This book was the first hand observations and travelogue of a diplomat/geographer, a bit similar to Marco Polo's work but it was more of a sober professional scouting report than a sensationalized travelogue. It contains some unique information, like the detailed description of a norse ship burial ceremony, which is supposedly the only recorded first-hand account of that practice.
