Ocean's 8 - another all-female remake

Here we go again. An all "strong woman" remake of a successful movie franchise. Instead of in-your-face feminism or angry anti-male rhetoric, this one just looks sad.

The picture they released shows the women trying to act cool (I guess), but makes them look so joyless and empty.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures have released the first image from their movie “Ocean’s 8,” which will hit theaters across the U.S. on June 8, 2018.

“In summer 2018, the tide will turn as (left to right) Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock) attempts to pull off the heist of the century at New York City’s star-studded annual Met Gala,” a statement explains. “Her first stop is to assemble the perfect crew: Lou (Cate Blanchett); Nine Ball (Rihanna); Amita (Mindy Kaling); Constance (Awkwafina); Rose (Helena Bonham Carter); Daphne Kluger (Anne Hathaway); and Tammy (Sarah Paulson).”

Gary Ross, whose credits include “Seabiscuit,” “The Hunger Games” and “Free State of Jones,” is directing from a screenplay he wrote with Olivia Milch, with Steven Soderbergh and Jon Kilik producing, Michael Tadross, Susan Ekins, Bullock, Diana Alvarez and Bruce Berman executive producing, and Milch co-producing.

They hired a lot of big names so I suspect it will at least make more money than the failed ghostbusters reboot.

This would have to be one of the most pleasant sets to work on in all of Hollywood, don't you think?

I mean, 8 female superstars of varying age and race? I can only imagine how much serenity and mutual respect that such a meeting of feminine greatness would bring to this production.

Not an ounce of cattiness be found, you can be sure of that. [Image: angel.gif]

"Ocean's 8 washed-up hoes" would be a better title.

So it's a Sex and the city remake?

They might have something interesting and fun here, if the crime were structured around the fact that the characters are women rather than presenting them as men-with-tits. Meaning, instead of having them pull off the type of crime the male cast could pull off, and do it in a way that the male cast could also do - sex-interchangeably - show them using uniquely feminine traits in a clever and creative way. The big obvious trait to use would be simple sex appeal, but think of the other traditionally female traits they could exploit in their caper, like nurturing/caring/consoling or psychological/social/emotional manipulativeness.

If nothing else, start by making them all noir-type femmes fatale to stylistically complement the cool-cat vibe of the Rat Pack original, and evolve the story and characters from there.

Obviously that would require admitting to these traditionally female traits, which would provoke the ire of man- and sex-hating feminists and get in the way of the narrative that anything men can do, grrlz can do better, anything men can do, grrlz can do too. So instead we'll get the girl-grifter, the girl-burglar, the girl-embezzler, the girl-heavy, the girl-pickpocket, the girl-hacker, etc.

And that's why you get flops like Guntbusters. Not only are women plunked into male roles and given male characterization not believable, but those exact roles have already been played better by men in the original movies being copied.

Threadbare as the sex-swap gimmick already is, I can't imagine it just going away any time soon, even if this latest entry flops too.

"Ocean's 8 washed-up hoes" would be a better title.

This is from the scene where the women are en-route to the crime scene, happen to encounter a male rider manspreading, and take a moment to forcefully correct his entitled misogynistic attitude with an application of kick-ass wish-fulfilling MarySueJitsu before continuing on with their caper.

ETA: hah - even that was done by a man in previous movie: Michael Caine in "Fourth Protocol".

If it wasn't a complete rip, i could actually see this being a good movie. considering its mostly manipulation and lies, things of which any sex can do well.

They would also be wise to include the got ones seducing people [Image: icon_lol.gif]

Until then, if you just keep to watching stuff made pre-1993 you will be ok.

I thought about drafting a post/article about this, the rot can be pinpointed more or less exactly to 1993.

Consider this:

1993:

1994:

1988:

1992:

[Image: 1992-Whitney-Houston-Album-Portrait-1.jpg]

1994:

You could go on.

It's not just film, sports too, music, both rock and rap fans will agree the early 90s were the last real years before the entrace of 'bands as a made product' and when sports still had athletes who came from the general populace.

I could write on this is some lenght, I attribute it to the death of American excellence, which the powers that be needed to destroy the Sovjet Union, but with the Sovjet Union gone and dead finally in 1991, there was no real challenge to the US, so the usual suspects could unleash their utopian NWO visions of the world.

This shows the most in Arnold Swarzeneggers films as a then A-list actor. He goes from Twins, which is a funny red pill comedy, to Junior, an emasculating gender bending film, from leading a resitance against a technocratic authority in Terminator to pursuing an arab terrorist with a biological weapon in True Lies (1994, they planned this a long time ago).

Disagree, I think they were churning out good movies until the early 00's at which point it all took a nose dive because it became less about art and more about money. That said you make a good point, hence the phrase love thy enemy I guess.

Which are you thinking of?

There are still good movies, but I'm talking more about the sort of average cultural product, where not the great, but the average was still enjoyable.

Eight "strong and independent" women can't execute a plan to go downtown for girls night together without it devolving into catty personal drama let alone eight cunts successfully pulling off a high-end criminal conspiracy against the best (men) in the business. Of course they had to have a tough black woman character. At least they got Rihanna and didn't bring back the dude from Cuntbusters for it.

A Jason Statham movie where he's flipping his car all over the place and contradicting the laws of physics in the process is more believable than this ridiculous junk.

Well off the top of my head.....

Dumb and Dumber
Kingpin
Gladiator
Braveheart
The usual suspects
Apollo 13
Friday
Casino
Leaving Las Vegas
Independence Day
Gerry Maguire
Trainspotting
Happy Gilmore
Titanic
Boogie Nights
The Fifth Element
12 Monkeys
Starship Troopers
Donnie Brasco
Rounders
Austin Powers
Saving Private Ryan
American History X
Deep Impact
The Man in the Iron Mask
American Beauty
Eyes wide shut
The Matrix
Snatch
Sexy Beast
Scary Movie
Donnie Darko
Black Hawk Down
Training day

Thats from mid 90s to early 00's but there is lots more from 00's after which we had Star Wars prequels and Iron Man which while good, sparked off the obsession with special effects over substance. Now all these bloody remakes using a brand of a successful movie, butchering it and having females as the lead to kiss up to the SJW crowd.... it really bothers me that its accepted.

Art is supposed to be controversial, I cant remember the last time I saw a movie that truly made me think about my assumptions of the universe or that had any meaningful dialogue.

They will attempt to make the women into identical cool versions of men with close to zero sex-appeal. They even made Rihanna into some kind of grunge overweight beast for the movie:

[Image: rihanna-continues-filming-oceans-8-in-nyc-04.jpg]
They obviously had to suck out the sex-appeal out of a hottie like Rihanna in order to not make it about female strengths like sex appeal and seduction.

Did that INdian feminist gain weight for the role?

If the bitches don't do it right, then that movie will significantly impact all future roles for them.

For it to be believable, the script should be getting the hottest one in the group to marry the richest guy they can find, then divorce raping him six months later.

The original oceans 11 rat pack guys must be rolling in their graves.

Also, if you have one of these 4k super high definition TVs, watch Mindy kaling on Conan O'Brien, or any show where she's sleeveless. She has the worlds worst stretch marks on her arms. It looks almost like it would be painful. Its strange that someone with so much money wouldn't do something about that.

Check it out.
