Shanghai is quite exp. now, 500 wont get you much near city center. You can look at Airbnb or some Chinese hotel chains. Dunno if you are picky, key with Chinese hotels is to look for the built date as no one maintains shit here. For ex. Ritz Jingan is a quite a dump for 5 star, but some 2018 built Chinese chains may be ok.

As for classy chicks... SH is kind of the stunted middle child IMO. HK has lots of white collar professionals, very open and easy to communicate. Too bad I consider HK and sing girls not my cup of tea.. prob worst in Asia. I find the BJ locals (talking about local Chinese) actually more open and "sophisticated" than SH locals. Again IMO, Shanghai locals (not expats & transplants) are quite conservative. This is general trend in China of South being more conservative/boring in general (Food, culture, girls).

TLDR for SH: If you want a classy looker, have game or pay 5-10k rmb. If you want a classy white collar be prepared to put a ring on it, also no blowjobs [Image: wink.gif]

What locations would stay at if budget isn't a factor for nightlife?

Most clubs are at huaihailu and bund areas. Rooftop bars in ljz pudong, but more girls in puxi side.

Before I got a permanent place, stayed in Ascott Huahai. Its right next to M2 and a few other hotspots.

Truth. I tend to find that the overwhelming majority of my bangs are Northern or Western Chinese chicks. I prefer them as well. A lot less nonsense between the open and the bang.

Anyone here have experience staying in a shared apartment (e.g. found through smartshanghai or an agency)?

I'll be studying in Shanghai for 6 months and want to save money, I'd also prefer some company around anyway. They seem ideal in every way except for bringing a girl back. Is this going to be a problem for the landlord/security/flatmates/girl or not?

I would strongly suggest not having a local roommate. They tend to be a little salty when they see you dating freely while they struggle.

The problem with laowai roommates is that they tend to move around a lot so your roommate may sign a 6-month lease with you and then bail leaving you to foot the bill down the line.

First time posting here. What’s good fellas? I’m planning a solo trip to shanghai first week of October. Def trying to party while I’m out there.

Has anyone had luck picking up from Arkham? Arkham, le baron, and bar rouge seem to be the most interesting to me (30’s African American) but would love to hear some suggestions from the shanghai vets on here. I’ve read all the other datasheets and traveler kai’s Thread too.

I've lived for a few months in a shared apartment in Shanghai, then I moved to a studio. Here are my thoughts:

- It won't influence your game for nightgame. Girls here don't give a shit whether you live in a shared apartment or have your own studio if you're trying to pull from nightgame
- If you go on normal dates with girls, you're fucked. If you want to cook after at your place, you can't or you're roommates are around eating as well+ she will feel less comfortable with 3 roommates around.
- Avoid FEMALE roommates. They will cockblock you 100% . I had this Italian female roommate who entered the flat and said things like: Hey ... , looks like you're having a good time again with a cheesy smile.

So I would not recommend living in a Shared apartment in Shanghai, only if you're in your early 20's , it would maybe be better to live together with some cool other GUYS here and have some fun and organize some house parties etc

@ Lushfox

Bar rouge and Le baron are decent for picking up. However, you will have trouble to enter Le baron on regular nights. U should get in touch with some promoters or a member from the staff there so you can get on the guestlist before arrival.

Arkham is generally a younger (20s), high-energy crowd, so if you don’t mind that, that could be a solid spot for you. I mentioned this in a previous post, but it’s located in an underground complex of bars called Found 158, which is a solid pregame spot if budget isn’t that big of an issue (drinks aren’t that cheap, but again the bars are all next to each other, and the area gets bumping on weekends). There’s also a mega club called TAXX there that is decent. As SpursFan said, Le Baron is good, but definitely hard to get in on weekend nights. Picking up from Bar Rouge can be done, but while the view of Pudong from there is really nice, it’s a bit too pretentious and touristy for my tastes.

Check out Monkey Champagne, which is on the same street (Donghu Lu) as Le Baron, it’s a hip-hop club that’s also bumping on weekends, or ASL on Tongren Lu. I haven’t been to the latter, but I’ve heard some good things about it from my friends here. Great thing about Shanghai is that the nightlife is generally within a 20-25 minute drive max of each other, and some venues are walking distance or even next door neighbors to each other. For short-term I’d aim to stay either in the former French concession or Jing’an District around West Nanjing Road, to maximize logistical convenience.

Word, so if I get on the list am I in? I heard about the dresscode being tight, but I won't have an issue with that after looking at the photos of some of the dudes on there. Do you know any promoters out there that can help? Are either of those spots good to run solo? If not, got any suggestions?

Hi Mr Getawayman, (my first post here by the way after years of lurking [Image: smile1.gif] )

I've been living in Shanghai for just under a year now in a shared apartment found through an agency on smartshanghai. Its true what Fortis said about expats being very transient, I've had several sets of roommates already. But the agency I use does separate contracts for each room so no need to find replacement housemates etc.
I've not had any problems bringing girls back in general. My housemates aren't around much and I usually try to get them into my room as soon as possible to watch a film / playstation / meet my pet slug etc.

I would say a place with good logistics is the most important thing.

Let me know if you want any more information or the details of the agency I used.

Unless you want to live far out in the suburbs away from the nightlife and city centre, you'll now be forced to have 3-5 or so roommates unless you've got money. I did this a couple years ago; ended up living with all girls from other Asian and Slavic countries, and one older chinese chick. They were too fucking lazy to even empty the trash bins in the bathroom and kitchen. Place was a mess most of the time. In my short time there, I at least managed to pull an 18 year old back to my room and fucked her in the ass there. She was screaming and moaning so loud, I'm pretty sure everyone in the apartment heard it. lmao

I imagine things could get a lot worse. Imagine you live with young foreign students that like to party and drink. If you need to wake up early for classes or a job, they'll keep you up all night or try to hone in on your girl if you bring her into the common areas. Or worse, a Chinese guy roommate who will undoubtedly try to cockblock you. Also, probably about half of the girls you bring back will be turned off that you have roommates, or will be self-conscious if you run into any of them while bringing her over.

When i lived here 8 or so years ago my company put me up at the Hong Kong Service Hotel which is not the Ascot near XTD. At the time it cost 2500 dollars/month which i wasn't paying personally but if i did i would have done it due to the perfect logistics.

I used to be able to walk girls home from the now defunct Babyface club in 5 minutes which was perfect and XTD daygame girls in 10 mins. In a city as big as Shanghai i think its important to live where you like to hang out the most. It was great to never have to even get into a taxi until i wanted to.

Hi everyone! Going to Shanghai next weekend (Sep 21/ 22). I live in Hong Kong and plan to come to Shanghai more regularly in the future.

Any recommendations to pull for a European guy aged 40? I guess most posters here are in their 20s so not sure how much of the advice applies to me (e.g., Perry's sounds good but girls there would probably prefer a guys their age and I never really felt the college-bar vibe even when I was that age).

I am 183cm, 75 kg (reasonable fit but some love handles) with glasses. Good dancer but my problem is I am looking like bf/ marriage-material (which I kind of am: just got divorced after 10 years LOL). And of course I am prime target for hookers. Very basic Mandarin (lived in Shanghai 6 months ~ 10 years before).

Now looking to play the field for a while and excited about Shanghai as I never dated there (was with my ex-wife already).

Also, if anyone is in Shanghai and wants a wing man, PM me. Same if anyone is coming to Hong Kong or Singapore (where I also spend a lot of time). [Image: banana.gif]

Anyone know what monthly cost of living is like in Shanghai these days?
"cost of living" in the Google search for the forum didn't yield the results I was looking for

Namely cost of living for
==
Own apartment (not necessarily baller) in prime area (can walk everywhere e.g. gym, grocery, maybe nightlife but not necessary - being close would be cool tho)
- this is the big one since I don't spend that much money on other stuff. Expatistan site saying ~$1,200/month?

Maybe go out once a week, if that - get table if it isn't ridiculous (I don't know anything about Chinese nightlife)

I usually make 90+% of my meals so food costs would probably be lower
==
Thanks for any info

Having your own studio in Shanghai in the prime area will cost you around 1200$ a month ( Minimum) short term stay.

I'd say you spend around 2000$ - 2300 $ a month on average ( rent, food, gym , .. ) everything included.

Like mentioned earlier, the area to stay in is around People Square, French concession or the General Jing an area is okay. Getting a table in Shanghai is a waste of money I'd say. Just get in touch with promoters and u can get free entrance anyway + free drinks ( PM if u want some local contacts).

Happy New Year! This thread is due for a bit of an update, so I'm here to add some nightlife venues to the mix here that don't seem to have been mentioned in this thread yet. I could write about so many more venues than what I've chosen to write about below, but these are just a few that I've been hitting up recently. Here's a map with the places I mention, along with some of the more well-known clubs that have already been mentioned plenty of times before on the forum (anywhere outside of this map is basically irrelevant), although keep in mind that there are places I haven't marked on here that are still worth visiting:

Up: New bar/lounge on North Shaanxi Lu, next door to the Shed and a block or two from Cages (both are popular sports bars) in the Northern part of Jing'an District. Turns into a club-type atmosphere at night. Dance floor isn't too big, but decent-sized, and the music is good, and not too loud. Crowd is a little more upscale here, think mid to late 20s professionals, both foreign and Chinese. Seeing as it's new, last night was my first time there, but will definitely go back at some point, as the talent there was pretty good. The more foreigner-oriented crowd meant that girls there were pretty approachable (not shy like most Asian girls are).

I have been meaning to check out SOS, which is a big Chinese club a floor below Cages, but haven't gotten around to it. As I said above, it is about two blocks from Up, and I've heard decent things about it, so could be worth going to.

Revolucion/La Social: Two bars about a block from each other located roughly at the intersection of Wuding Lu and Yanping Lu, maybe about 3/4 of a mile west from the Up/Shed/Cages area. Crowd is demographically similar to that of Up (maybe slightly more foreign), but both also have a slightly more ratchet vibe. These places are absolutely popping off on weekend nights, with lines out the door. Very fun atmosphere, and would definitely recommend hitting them up.

Found 158: Surprised I haven't seen much reference to this area on the forum, as these days it seems to be the epicenter of Shanghai nightlife if there is such a thing. Found isn't one venue, but rather a cluster of bars and two clubs all packed into what can only be described as a large glorified hole in the ground of a park in southeastern Jing'an, on the eastern end of Julu Lu. Crowd at the bars here are similar to that of the previous two areas described, meaning that the Chinese girls there are generally into foreigners. El Santo, Mito, Boteco, Café Des Stagiaires, and a number of other bars here that I can't remember are all solid choices. Tables are cleared out to make way for a dance floor at most of these bars on the weekends, great if you like utilizing dancing like I do.

Club-wise at Found, you've got TAXX and Arkham. Arkham is more of a hip-hop club with a younger, and more Chinese crowd. They generally charge a cover fee of at least 100 RMB, and I unfortunately have yet to seriously check it out, but it is usually very popular on weekends.

TAXX is possibly in the top three of most popular clubs in the city right now, and the crowd is similar to that of Arkham age-wise, but slightly more foreign. It's a typical Shanghai mega-club, with the rich Chinese people balling out on tables and sitting around playing dice games, while the foreigners dominate the dance floor, although there are enough Chinese chicks out there dancing too. What gives TAXX an advantage over some of the other well-known clubs here (e.g. Bar Rouge, M1NT, Myst, Fusion) is that because it's located right in Found 158, you can pregame at some of the bars mentioned above, then walk right over to TAXX. As long as you have a wristband from TAXX, you can also leave and re-enter as you please. There can sometimes be a cover fee of 100 RMB as well, but I've had very good success here (as an ABC), so it's well worth it in my somewhat biased opinion.

One more note on Found, it can be a bitch to leave from if you have to take a cab somewhere on a weekend night, and if you're leaving with a girl, it's especially important to find a ride out of there. Didi (Chinese Uber) gets a shit ton of people waiting for rides, and can take up to 45 minutes to find a driver. The cabs that line up on Julu Lu to pick people up don't run their meters, and will haggle with you on prices, starting at pretty high fares. If you're fine with paying stupid high fares just to leave, then more power to you, but if you're not trying to get charged out the ass, the move is to walk at least a block or two west down Julu Lu, and try to flag down cabs there, since those will be cabs that are just passing by, and not there exclusively to rip off foreigners. There are also often motorized rickshaws waiting in front of Found too, and those can be cheaper than the actual cabs.

ASL: Hip-hop club on Tongren Lu, right across from the Jing'an Shangri-La Hotel. Vibe is similar to that of the Donghu Lu clubs (Le Baron and Monkey Champagne), meaning that music is decent, and not loud enough to drown out conversations, but I've found people to be less snobby/more approachable here than at Donghu Lu. Seems to be especially popular with ABCs, and to me feels like a more mature version of Arkham.

Couple other venue notes, Myst has moved to where M2 used to be (Hong Kong plaza on Huaihai Lu). This actually happened nearly a year ago, but I don't think it's been mentioned here yet. Consequently I go there less now, because I hated the layout of M2 (dance floor way too small for a mega-club, and for how packed it gets). Monkey Champagne has also moved from Donghu Lu to the western end of Julu Lu, a 20-minute walk from Found 158.

Hope you guys find this helpful.

So Myst is still around? How is it now? I thought they shut down after their Jing'An location disappeared.

Yes, as I said Myst is now where M2 used to be, and it has inherited the traits that M2 had. Namely being free to enter as long as there's no big-name DJ playing, but consequently getting crowded as fuck, and not having a large enough dance floor to cope. Coat check line takes a ridiculously long time to get through as well. Old Myst had a much bigger dance floor. But this new iteration is still alright, and I still go once in a while. It's the same type of crowd anyway, mix of Chinese and foreign.

Hey guys.

Half asian from Denmark here trying to make girls lucky/happy/fullfilled (literally). New to the PUA scene. Early 20s.

Would someone like to share WeChat to promoters in Shanghai?

Does anybody have any strategies that work well here? I am thinking about being myself and trying to spread value and have a good time.

Cya outside. Lets get shitfaced and make lifetime experiences for girls.

Also, kind of OT, how is it to get viagra here in China?
