Warning to those who are going to Kiev

I searched a topic about this but I couldn't find any. So, I'll post here. I just called my cousin in Italy yesterday actually and he told me this even though it happened almost 2 months ago.

If you're interested in football, you would know that Dynamo Kiev and Napoli were in same group in Champions League. So, my cousin and his friends (along with his Napoli fan group) went to Kiev in October with 200 fans.

As in most places, at nights, all Italians spread out to groups 2 or 3 guys to hunt girls. My cousin's best friend (he's around 28 year old, with another his friend) met 2 hotties at Maidan and they hit it off. They drank and ate somewhere. Around 2 am, guys say they have a hotel nearby, girls agree to come over.

They go to hotel, keep drinking in the room from what they order from room service. One girl says I have to call my family to let them know that I am not coming home tonight. Calls someone and speaks, of course guys dont know what she said on the phone.

About like in half hour, door knocks. Girl opens the door, 5 guys rush in the room, with knives. They take around 1600 euro's from both guys, their passports and their iPhone's and left with girls.

Of course, they called cops but as you know, it's Ukraine, these criminals work with cops on commission bases. They go to Italian embassy next day, they saw around like 20-30 guys who got robbed just like them and looking to get temporary passport.

Italian embassy said, it's very known way to rob tourists in Kiev. So, heads up for those who are going to Kiev. Be aware, stay safe.

Dude, robberies are common on tourists in just about EVERY major city in foreign countries.

And there are dozens of threads like this.

I don't think this is common pickpocketing robbery. Have you heard anything like 5 guys rushing into your hotel room and robbing someone? I've heard pickpocketing or bringing you bill more than usual but this was the first time I heard something like this.

I wouldn't dub him a troll just based on such a report. I don't know Kiev, but I know I never heard about this kind of thing happening in Moscow in the three years I was there. Not once. All that ever happened was the fake taxi driver robbing here and there.

Kind of makes Kiev sound backwoods if this is happening there on such a large scale now.

Normally I wouldn't, but a few things stick out to me:

This didn't happen to him, but "a friend" of his.

Out of the 3 threads he's started, all of them are some sort of "warnings" or something about negative things that affect American travelers.

It just stinks of a "don't leave America" troll to me. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

Frankly their alarm bells should have rung after they successfully convinced two Ukrainian hotties - both of them - to follow them up to their room - quasi instant lay.

You can ask the best seducers how often that happens in the Ukraine - this is not the Phillippines. Especially two very hot girls being instantly attracted to two obvious sexual nomads.

The easiest way of how to guarantee that is with outright money. Otherwise you have to pick up on a multitude of cues. Also - if you are concerned about security, then simply pick a 4 to 5 star hotel next time. Problem solved. Those gangs are not going into those - there is security at those places and their faces are on video later on. Also anyone can alert the cops before they even leave the building.

Staying in 4 or 5 star hotels would be the easy way to avoid this as Zelscorpion says. Five armed men are going to cause a bit of a stir entering the lobby of a Hilton. And will have no way to use an elevator without a key of their own. And will be filmed in every hallway and room between the entrance and the hotel room. And they'll have security guards. Its not like hotels are expensive in Kiev either, a good 4* can be got for under 100eur/night.

Wow, I go to bed and this pops up? This month sure keeps on giving.

I'll pour one out for MCMV. He wasn't trolling and this was not simply robbery but rather something organized. Zatara and Zel have some good points.

It is not utterly impossible that such a con is being done. You have to keep in mind that Ukraine is deteriorating economically and thus organized as well as disorganized crime is increasing as people are getting desperate.

Distant relatives of mine x-generations away, but still - who still live in the Ukraine have been robbed and attacked by two men who came into the house and beat up an old woman and her daughter. The old woman is in her 80s and her daughter in her 50s and they used iron bars on them. Then they stole the money, killed the dog and plundered the fridge because the women did not have much money on them. They ate some sausages right in the house, because they were hungry and had not eaten for a while.

These are not crimes of a prosperous society. Roosh is somewhat right that the Ukraine is a failing state. Now they get visa-free entry to the EU and I for one think that this is a good idea. It will increase certain crimes like car-theft and burgleries by pros, but it will also do a few positive things.

Losing your cash for being careless with women is bad, but they will live. You just gotta be a bit more careful when a country descends into more poverty and chaos. Ukrainians are not utterly ruthless and life is valued there, your cash may be gone, but you won't be killed and buried in the woods for a few bucks.

Now, you guys have alot more knowledge on Ukraine then myself. But, I walked all over the city of Kiev and thought it was the safest city I've ever been in. All times of the day and night. I certainly didn't see any poverty or crime. I could stand on my balcony on Bastionna street smoking and see Porshe suv's, BMW's and all kind of expensive cars. But, I was only in country for three weeks.

Warning to those who are going to Kiev

I have to stress that the experience that happened was in a remote rural location. Kiev is probably safer than many American cities.

While I can at least vouch for the veracity of the experience (paying for the medical bills etc.), but occasionally this can happen. Still - we have to take the story with a grain of salt. Especially the claims that the police station was full with people who experienced the same thing sounds not credibe. This one gang would have to do it dozens of times in one night or there would be multiple gangs doing the same stunt.

Also the claims that cops are officially cut in on stunts like that are also very shady. Cops may cover for undercover drug bosses and have both eyes closed, but getting involved with moronic street gangs who use violence against tourists and who run into an appartment where they can potentially be seen by anyone? Come on - that gang even if true is dumb as fuck. Your neighbor is sure to see a bunch of violent men rushing into someone's place. Such a stint is high risk and usually low reward. Most men won't carry around 1500 EUR. This entire story reeks of fakeness.

The story I described was set in a rural house where no one would hear screams and furniture being smashed. Here anything can go wrong and the gang can be met with an Ukrainian SWAT team as they go down the stairs. I guess that is why OP got banned for spreading crap like that.

This.

Also, why the hell do you need $1600 euros for a weekend in Kiev? That's the budget for like 3 months of food and drinks there.

Warning to those who are going to Kiev

There is definitely an increase in beggars and desperate people in Kiev.

What before was dismissed with a single "net!", now you have people harassing you for 50 meters or more. In my short stay this time I got harassed maybe some 5 times, including a kid grabbing my arm, had to physically restrain him, also my friend got harassed by the same kid and had to threaten him with a slap. There is countless of people asking for money, not like the few babushkas of a couple years ago.

I remember when Police harassment asking for passport/ID was the major issue around here, now that this problem seem solved, a bigger one is surging. But OP seems too far fetched to be real, or a common practice, but still, caution and common sense is never enough, be it here or anywhere else.

Not my mention I got drugged by two sluts in my last visit, and fortunately nothing major happened.

"So, in the middle of last week went to Caribbean Club on ladies night, not many action going on but still some girls, had been there with a couple of forum members, one left soon in the night, the other stayed for a little while but also left before me. My mood was good that night, got invited to a table by a guy who was with two girls, talked and danced with one of the girls of the table, chatted with the guy, danced with some other random girls and started to get slightly drunk, firing flirt all around...but nothing out of my average night out. Girl in table got approached and started to give a lot of attention to the guy, I lost my interest, which in fact was not that much, since she spoke perfect English and was so happy to go live in the US in a few days. Meanwhile a MILf starts to heavy flirt with me, I then danced with her, she seemed nice and cool, she identified as Russian, which is an automatic "go forward" to me. Got some drinks in the bar and talked for a while, danced again. Club then starts to close and the staff tells people to leave.
She was with a friend, with some nice tits. The three of us agreed to go to my place for some drinks and food. There, overall mood was good, we drank and eat, a threesome was on my sight, gf drops beer in my shirt, I had to take it off, danced with her then, rubbing on her back and grabbing her tits, the other Milf also seemed willing to enter the game.

But... soon after, my booze started to feel 10 times higher, at first I did not understood what was going on, but still had some strength in me. Milf goes to my bed still dressed, I got totally naked and followed her. There I tried to do something, but just felt asleep...I think possibly this was around 7:00 in the morning...

Then I wake up! I hear the same sound two or three times, and happened that the bitch was opening the clasp of my golden necklace which then I feel falling into the pillow, nuzzling right by my ear. Very stunned and dizzy, but immediately I understood what was going on. In a rush while mumbling "chto blyad?" stepped out of the bed, put some pants and a jacket and started to grab my values in sight. The other bitch was sleeping unnoticed in the living room couch. The passport was missing and they said they did not know where it was, after hard pressure (but god, I was so dizzy and stunned) the friend says she knows where and picks it from a shelf (definitely not the place where I had it). After a last brief analysis on my small belongings, I shoved them out of my apartment, while the friend saying that I had no right to accuse her of stealing and blahblahblah and the other just silent. They left.

They could have stealed everything that I would not have noticed at all...but gold shines )) Major mistake.

I slept another 9 hours like a bear until 18:00. When I woke up I have never felt that sensation before, not even my worst hangover ever, my head was a chaos, and I had never felt so thirsty before. All my strength was gone too. I took a shower thinking that maybe could make me feel better, and decided to hit the street to eat something. I struggled opening the street door...thankfully the cold street breeze made me woke up a little, walked to the nearest restaurant, ate, and drank possibly two liters of liquids..it was not enough, I was still thirsty as fuck, but better. Then quickly ordered the check and retired again to the apartment... In a period of 29 hours I slept 24..."

Edit: RIP for the french kid in Moscow. I just had a tinny reaction because maybe due to past mistakes my body is not so reactive to psychotropic substances as when I was younger, otherwise would have slept non-stop. But if left in the snow with a powerful sleeping drug like the one they gave me, I would have been frozen to death too...

Warning to those who are going to Kiev

Absolutely no knowledge of Ukraine, but I'd like to offer an interpretation of a couple of the OP's comments.

He thinks the police were in on it - more probably, they'd dealt with several, similar incidents, had no leads, and knew they were on a hiding to nothing with this one, hence being less than enthusiastic with their investigation.

He mentions 20-30 people at the embassy the next day - likely there were a few, but not the number he mentions. People are prone to exaggerate/make mistakes with quantities, distances and time.

Whilst not saying that it's 100% genuine, I'd give this one a sympathetic ear.

Warning to those who are going to Kiev

I spent 2 months in Kiev but all the way in 2008. City looked pretty safe to me and I hadn't seen anything wrong at all.

But, I am Milan fan, not Napoli but this is actually not a troll. There were a lot of articles to warn Italian supporters on Corriere Dello Sports and Gazzetta Dello Sports. Tv channels in Italy also covered this news. Any football fan in Italy would know this because newspapers wrote about this over and over. They also give same warnings before Turkish and Russian matches.

It's well known tactic in Ukraine.

Warning to those who are going to Kiev

Hey Guys,
i rented a airbnb apartment next to lva tolstoi with 4 friends. one day at around 2 p.m. i am still in my bed, someone is knocking on the door and hitting it with the fist. i wake up with 2 other friends and seeing it through the door cameria that there are 4 guys outside. i called the guy i rented teh apartment and i was asking if he knew those guys, but he didnt know them. after 10 minutes heavy ringing and banging on the door, they left. i have family in russia and sometimes this kind of things even end up deadly. after another 15 min they came back with 6 people and at this point i called the police, those guys were around 20-25 and looked like real thugs (gopnik). they left right before the police came with 10 guys. so what i think happened
next to our apartment was a very expensive restaurant with a guy who was coordinating the parking. i think they knew that at the apartment #32 are tourists staying, since other locals lived with us on the same floor. but they just knocked on our door. so i went down and asked him if he saw the 6 guys and that they tried to break into our apartment. he answered me yes he saw them and asked if i live in the apartment #32. i mean they where coming straight to our apartment, so someone had to tell that them.
i mean if we all had a laptop, phone, clothes and cash, every person has value of around 1500€, so its almost their annual income. the last 10 days, we never left the apartment alone and were scared that they return or intercept us after a club in front of the house.
every ukrainian girl and even boys, said they never heard of this happening right in the center.
i have even pictures where they put a nail in the front door to enter the stairway...which we also got rid of. scary shit.

the rest of kiev was super safe and we never got in trouble, but this incident was pretty strange though
