Godspeed, sir. They don't make them like this anymore.

You want to know the only thing you can assume about a broken down old man? It's that he's a survivor.

I'd never noticed before that John Glenn and John McCain are two separate people. Apparently my mind had melded them together a few decades ago, probably due to their similarly boring politics.

All joking aside, he grew up seventeen miles from Zanesville. That's just one more factor in his favor.

I always admired him. Terrible loss. At least he got to see Trump win the white house!

Something about Ohio just seems to crank out pretty solid people overall. I can't say I remember ever meeting someone from that state I really disliked.

Massachusetts, on the other hand...

You did Ohio proud, Mr. Glenn.

Neil Armstrong was born in Ohio. The Wright Brothers had roots in Dayton. This is why when the state quarters came out some years ago, the Ohio quarter said, "birthplace of avaiation pioneers."

Unfortunately, the death of these astronauts reminds me of a time when there was a belief that Americans could accomplish anything--walking on the moon, flying across the Atlantic, harnessing the power of electricity by flying a kite in a thunderstorm. I wish we could go back to that kind of optimism.

He spoke at one of the colleges in my hometown and I went to his speech. I got to shake his hand and get my autobiography signed by him.

Great guy, RIP.
