1) The guy used 'Conway' as his fake surname. Classic stuff.
2) Our society already has socially approved pathway to scam that kind of loot off an unsuspecting chump. You just have to be female, get married and then get a divorce.
3) Expect more stories like these in the West. As fewer people marry, those that do marry have smaller families, and more people enter their dotage alone, you'd better believe conmen, scammers and other bullshit artists are going to have a field day. Stuff like this was a lot harder to pull in the old days when women were surrounded by their families in their most vulnerable years. The costs of feminism, technology and YOLO lifestyle become more apparent with each passing day.
