2nd debate was a breath of fresh air, now we need another solid performance here to once again stave off the destruction of western civilization.
The grouping of topics was announced in advance: 6 topics, each being covered for 15 minutes. Similar type of format as first debate, with one moderator asking questions/follow-ups and Trump and Clinton being behind podiums (I think).
Dems are working-the-refs on Chris Wallace already since he's part of the deplorable Fox News but he's proven to be just as hard on Trump in the past, maybe even harder: remember his on-the-spot fact-checking of Trump during the debate in Detroit, with infographics on screen? He's gone on record saying he's more timekeeper than fact checker this time around, but who knows... guaranteed he won't pull the shit the others did including straight up lying (Lester Holt, "you're on record as having supported the war in Iraq"), obnoxious aggressive follow-ups (Cooper) and debate insertion (Martha Raddatz answering Trump's rhretorical questions, shut up bitch, also what the fuck is wrong with your voice???)
I assume these will be in no particular order, but it certainly helps the candidates focus their attention on some key areas
Given some thought to the talking points based on the sum of the campaign to date and have some ideas on what the candidates may cover... will revisit this after the debate to see how far I was off.
Debt & Entitlements:
- Hillary: people like Trump who don't pay taxes leads to debt issues, and people like Trump want to privatize social security, that's bad
- Trump: you want to talk about debt, Obama doubled it and Hillary will continue that; also, Hillary is a fan of single payer healthcare which is the largest entitlement program of them all
- Both will say no to entitlement reform despite reform realistically being needed; Trump will fix via dealing with waste, fraud and abuse; Hillary through taxes on the rich.
- Trump can bring up Obamacare here though it technically isn't an entitlement
Immigration:
- Hillary tries to evoke emotion about torn families, minorities in fear, destroying relationship with Mexico, she pushes for DACA/DAPA/comprehensive immigration reform in the first 100 days
- Trump fucking kills it: wall, respect laws, let ICE do their jobs, ICE and border patrol endorsed me, extreeeme vetting, mentioning her dream of open borders and inability to say "radical islamic terrorism".
- Somebody will try to get Trump stumped via (1) deportation force and (2) "what about the kids"/tearing families apart aspect of deportations but that's old hat at this point
Economy:
- Trump: "greatest jobs president God ever made", renegotiate trade deals, America first; Hillary's dream is open hemisphere of trade and movement and she's lying about TPP disavowal/she's totally going to enact it
- Hillary: jumpstart economy using green jobs, blah blah blah. Hit Trump on his companies manufacturing or sourcing goods outside of the U.S.
- Both will talk about their tax policies, likely/best category to cover them is this one
Supreme Court:
- Trump: upholders and defenders of the constitution
- Hillary: constitution says women can't vote, bet you wish that was still the case huh Donald? (crowd hoots and hollers).
- Hillary: Supreme Court justices should include variety of life experiences and viewpoints better representing the rich vibrant diversity this nation has to offer and I just threw up in my mouth a little
- Not sure how else Supreme Court merits 15 minutes of discussion unless they discuss typical Supreme Court issues: gun rights, abortion, public financing, maybe a broader dialogue on states rights vs. laws being dictated by court rather than the people?
Foreign Hot Spots:
- Hillary: strong action in Syria, defend history in Iraq, hit Trump over Russia, NATO comments and nuke comments
- Trump: redirect/clarification on NATO, that organization was born in the cold war and must evolve for the times; hit Hillary on Middle East blowing up the past 8 years, maybe Benghazi for good measure
- Other items: North Korea, Yemen/Saudi Arabia/Red Sea, maybe Israel?
Fitness to be president: god just get through these 15 minutes...
- Hillary: "temperament", Trump tape, repeated accusations, claims of rigged election, inappropriate twitter behaviour, attacks on media, conspiracy theories, dangerous and dark political talk/emprisoning his opponent like a 3rd-world dictator
- Trump: deplorables, despises regular Americans, Benghazi, deleted e-mails, private server, multiple incidents of political collusion and any other Podesta e-mail goodies, and she committed criminal acts with a lot of sketchy shit on the side so special prosecutor is more than warranted
One major problem I'm seeing: where does Trump bring up corruption in politics, collusion between media and political entities, and how he's going to clean the system up a.k.a. #draintheswamp? I don't see how it readily fits into any of the 6 stated categories. It's an absolute winning point for him so has to be shoehorned in somewhere.
Conversely, major problem for Clinton: where do you insert Climate Change talking points here? That's probably her strong suit and I don't believe it's seen much play yet. She can try to link to it via the economy, or even the presidential fitness section (see: Trump's tweet on China making up global warming)
Also, my concerns:
-"Fitness to be president" goes last and Trump isn't able to throw enough shit on Hillary as she will be overloading on crocodile tears/appeals to emotion, probably copying from Michelle Obama's "strong" speech against him
-Some new bomb drops on Trump tomorrow morning or afternoon and it takes priority over a chunk of the debate
-Trump hasn't taken the 3rd debate prep as seriously since he knew he did great in the 2nd so he returns to the form from the 1st debate...
Once again, need a big Trump performance tomorrow and I'll be relieved when it's over so long as he can at least hold his own. I would definitely love if he kept up the performance in the last half hour instead of fading from the up-front strength exhibited the first two times. And keep dodging, avoiding, or ignoring the bait and traps she sets.
