A lot of misinformation about pick-up in this thread. Go watch either season of The Pick-Up Artist and you'll quickly realize that aside from Mystery wearing some outrageous outfits, absolutely no one was advocating that guys actually dress like that. In fact, the make over episodes of the show were very effective at turning lame looking guys into men with a decent level of style.

I've associated with PUA style club clowns and guys who run styles of game that this forum approves of and there isn't much difference, except that the PUA types consistently approach.

The guys who I've seen get the best pussy have always been heavily Mystery influenced players.

There are pictures floating about of Mystery hanging with Strauss and some of the guys named in The Game circa 2005. Mystery is wearing his typical goth magician clothes. Which works for him as he is a goth magician. The other guys, including Strauss, look absolutely retarded.

I'd agree. The level of the retarded look varies, but it's safe to say that while Mystery was able to pull off his look, other guys trying to follow his example early on may have failed to achieve a cohesive appearance.

Quote:Quote:

Strauss and some of the other affiliated guys did advocate "peacocking." Which may have been misunderstood and exaggerated, but not by much. Mystery and other PUAs may have done things differently, and I have no doubts that they did well, but Strauss himself advocated some really weird things. On his Annihilation video series I remember him telling guys to wear around town an empty shoulder holster. That's not peacocking, that's retarded.

A lot of the retarded stuff you saw early in the PUA community was the result of guys close to Mystery (and pretty much anyone else who wanted to) trying to build a lifestyle of freedom by teaching game for a living.

Their focus was less on results with women, and more about results in pulling in students, filling classes, and making money.

The e-books and $2000 DVD sets were even worse, with guys (including Style) who had innovated nothing new tried to distinguish themselves while simple rehashing Mystery's material.

That doesn't change the fact that Mystery's written material was very strong and continues to be an asset to this day for men who have studied it. It's helped me a lot.

If you do watch The Pick-Up Artist, you'll see that Mystery has hardly advocating the silliness that others were. He appears adept at turning completely awkward guys into men who can get laid, no empty shoulder holsters required.

Zero disrespect coming from me towards Mystery and zero doubts on his seduction abilities. Mystery's dress sense, while unusual, is congruent for him, as that truly is who he is. Strauss and company come across as a group trying to follow the leader but failing to understand the fine detail. In that one pic I'm thinking of Strauss is wearing a snake-skin suit. That's more tacky than actually bad bad, but the rest of the crew they're rolling with look like malnourished men who have travelled back in time naked from a nuclear ravaged future and they've hastily assembled a wardrobe from the stuff chucked into the dumpsters out back of the boutiques on Queen St W. Except the one 40 something guy who looks like the blond Leisure Suit Larry.

So that's partially why a lot of guys in this thread are making fun of Strauss. Strauss had some bad advice and anything good game-wise he had to say was quoted from other PUAs, chief amongst them Mystery. In hindsight, Strauss was a magazine writer for big name magazines pushing Narrative like Rolling Stone. Of course he wasn't going to stray too far away from the blue pill or break his cultural programming and drop some deep truths of his own.

I've never seen The Pickup Artist, but again I don't doubt Mystery was able to make men see the light and help improve themselves. And good thing there were zero shoulder holsters.

Honestly the book's own plot kind of writes itself for a blue pill movie. Mystery is the charismatic master with women but turns out to have severe untreated bipolar disorder. The author ends up settling down with a nice lady and is finally happy once he treats her like a hu-mon instead of doing any game stuff. Then all the other game guys are portrayed extremely negatively by the author. Tyler Durden is a sociopathic manipulator, the asian guy was a sperg just trying to run the game stuff as a business seminar scam, and the other guys were made out to be pathetic dorks that just turned into pathetic dorks with funny clothes. I think one of the guys in the book had an anxiety disorder where he couldn't pee in urinals or something.

The author clearly had contempt for all these people, and in the book it's either outright contempt or covered by a veneer of pretending to feel sorry for them. In reality I think the author was an extrovert in the first place, he had a job interviewing celebrities or something that would only be done by a person with an extrovert personality. Thus, you have a narrative coming from an extrovert, which is going to be "well jeez, why don't you spazzes just act normal?" To borrow vox day's terminology, The Game is Gamma male writing wherein the author is just so superior to everyone else in the book. He can't help but paint the other characters' problems as insurmountable character flaws while he still gets the perfect woman at the end because he's the secret king.

We definitely aren't going to see a movie that accepts a premise that men can alter their behavior and become inherently more attractive. In the best case it will be that men can fake behavior to be more attractive but they're really still scared little nerds inside and in truth unattractive. Worst case they paint everyone except the author as being manipulative sex perverts that seduce women just to abuse them because of misogyny.

The Game end with happy ending with nice blue pill taste. It will be easy for Hollywood to make the movie PC enough for their taste.

There one lesson I got from the game and to this day trying to get a handle every since I read it, about 5 years ago, was focusing on handling your personal problems. Strauss point out with Mystery, which was my biggest takeaway, was the need to handle your issues. Strauss never told reader how to do this. I was able to learn it by read the Rational Male, Rollo taught me that having proper Frame of yourself was key.

I'm curious, why didn't the feminist lynch mob/MSM, etc., go after Neil Strauss, Mystery and David Deangelo like they went after Roosh and Julien?

Hell, Strauss was on "The View", Mystery got his own TV show on VH1 and Deangelo moved into the business world.

Possible reasons:
- The culture has changed since 2005
- These guys were viewed as little more than harmless nerds

I thought about this since I saw a recent video of Spanish Pickup coach Alvaro Reyes getting his workshop shut down by a group of raging women.

Not only does Niell Look like a nerd, but he sounds gay and devoid of testosterone.
I no joke thought he was gay first time I found about him.
No SJW/feminists attack went after gay men 10 years ago.
This is the same reason Milo gets far less backlash than he should be getting.

Pickup didn't have a bad rep in those earlier days. Also Strauss and Mystery focus only on game and don't get involved in the political side. They cater to be mainstream friendly. Roosh writes provocative articles. I would say 90% of his heat came from that rape article. You would never see Strauss or Mystery touch an article of that nature, they would lose their publishing deals.

Yeah I guess Hollywood connections and material that was cleaned up for mainstream consumption stopped them getting attacked.

I don't remember "The Game" or "The Mystery Method" getting a bunch of fake 1-star reviews.

We can hate on pickup 101 all we want, but credit must be given where it's due.

It's a stage one should evolve from, but it's a good foundation when starting nonetheless.

I'm glad I went through those days, but I'm fortunate to have moved on from it. Some guys never do.

Same - and really, learning about "negs" was a huge step for me transitioning from nice guy mode. I just never knew that what I was doing was wrong, and that playful negs were so effective.

if you're not a natural, you gotta be thankful for Mystery

It's going to be a whitewashed piece of shit to appeal to all audiences, like I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell was.

The underlying message of that movie was that being a player got you into trouble and then they spent like two thirds of the movie zoomed in on a fucking love story that no one gave a shit about about a character that no one gave a shit about.

So you can expect the first twenty minutes to have Style and Mystery talk about negs and shit and then one of the girls they were hitting on (that shot them down) will hook up with one of the guys at the Mystery boot camp and then get engaged or whatever. This will take up most of the movie, as the director will insist on having many lovey-dovey montages of walking through parks and feeding each other dessert.

Then in the last twenty minutes of the movie you'll see Style and Mystery get rejected again and maybe someone in the background will take a swing at them or they'll get chased by a crowd of white knights for being rapists.

“I have a very simple rule when it comes to management: hire the best people from your competitors, pay them more than they were earning, and give them bonuses and incentives based on their performance. That’s how you build a first-class operation.”

Strauss may have been an introduction to game for many, but his book already had the cosy, blue-pill Hollywood arc and ending.
"Welp, that was my PUA adventure. And now back to being respectable and orthodox."

I'd be surprised if he didn't see a movie deal in the distance even as he wrote it.

Mystery, though, is underrated. Don't knock the hat, or the nail polish.
Peacocking is not about a specific look. It's about being visually un-ignorable.
If every woman in the room has glanced at you, the woman you are talking to will know it.
His method is a great model for experimenting and building up your instinctive game.
Training wheels, but extremely useful, especially before feminism began to be seriously questioned.

Will not watch whatever romcom dreck they put together.
