What are your thoughts on the Hollow Crown?

I really like the show. It is a real character study. Jimmy is an inherently flawed, immoral character that you nonetheless root for -- as his sleaze, greed, self-destruction, and good-heartedness all battle for primacy.
I watched the first episode of Strange Angel a few nights ago. It looks like it's going to be quite interesting.

Strange Angel follows "Jack Parsons, a brilliant and ambitious blue-collar worker of 1930s Los Angeles who started as a janitor at a chemical factory but had fantastical dreams that led him to birth the unknown discipline of American rocketry. Along the way, he fell into a mysterious world that included sex magic rituals at night, and he became a disciple of occultist Aleister Crowley. Parsons used Crowley’s teachings of self-actualization to support his unimaginable and unprecedented endeavor to the stars."

Didn't see where else to put this, but just binge-watched The Staircase over the past few nights. I lived in the area when this case first went down and was surprised to see Netflix had enough footage for a series. There was an earlier documentary about the incident, but now it's about 12 episodes with footage going all the way back to 2001.
Synopsis: a novelist is convicted of murdering his wife spontaneously after she finds a computer full of gay escorting sites and realizes her husband is closeted. Police arrive and are convinced it was not an accident and the husband is charged. Trial drama ensues.
Spoiler alert (more info here)
He since filed an Alford plea to manslaughter, was given credit for time served and is a free man again, after 8 years of prison and a marathon of in and out court appearances.
A few observations:
The first episode had a moment where one of the prosecutors, Mike Nifong, comments and acts cocky about the case and the likelihood of a conviction. Mike Nifong would later go on to become the disbarred prosecutor who tried to hand a group of innocent guys over to prison for a rape they did not commit and never even happened - the Duke Lacrosse case. His role in withholding exculpatory evidence against the players and putting too much credibility in a witness who changed her story nine times was too much to take, but not for the voters who re-elected him (NC has elected state attorneys). Eventually he got canned. The series never explained significance in a more widely occurring culture of corruption in the state government.
Mike Nifong was only one piece of shit working on the case. The other was pencil neck geek Duane Deaver who while at the state bureau of investigation (SBI) conducted bullshit experiments to fabricate evidence and perjured his testimony more than once. There were other cases of wrongly convicted men based on SBI evidence which resulted in reversals as well as ammo for the Petersen appeals.
Much later in the series (around the time of the Alford plea), the defense counsel learns of a piece of evidence that the police found during the original investigation but later deliberately misplaced which could have been exculpatory for Peterson.
In spite of all that, I still think Petersen is guilty as sin. The cops and district attorneys let this one slip through their fingers by their own dishonesty and shortcuts. Utterly pathetic that Peterson is walking over a manslaughter charge versus rotting in jail
The show makes him appear a sympathetic character, but the reality details a more desperate sociopath with serious financial problems and a fucked up personal life. The emails in that link above were shown to the jury - they told the tale of who Petersen really is.
His "bisexuality" is interesting. Supposedly he likes men and women. Well... if this were the case, why were there never any examples of affairs with females or even computer porn with women involved found on his computer, and why was he only going to gay web sites? The reality is he was a closeted homo going through life using women. The "bisexual" bit is brought up now and again as a prejudicial factor that should not have been admitted, but it did speak to motive and I think it was properly allowed.
The jury was mostly black, with a lot of middle aged and older participants. The series didn't connect the dots, but I suspect that Peterson's homosexuality was seen as very distasteful by them. Older black men in particular are not exactly open to alternatives such as a married guy cheating with homosexual prostitutes, nor do i think they ever bought the idea that his wife knew he was an admitted bisexual.
She was the one making the money as a big time executive and Petersen was up to his ass in credit card bills. Though he had a following, his novels (loaded with detailed homoerotic suggestions, supposedly) apparently were not making all that much money. The second she flipped over learning about his extracurricular activities and likelihood of a divorce, he reacted. There was also insurance money involved, but it is not clear if he ever got that.
Not once in the entire series do I remember Petersen shedding a tear over either of his dead wives (there was an earlier, similar death of his first wife while they was stationed in Germany). Both of his dead wives had sisters and friends who got choked up just describing the circumstances of the respective deaths, but Petersen showed no emotion whatsoever over the demise over either woman, aside from the tape from the 911 call, which he hung up after some brief acting. I'm not the only one to notice the victims are given prop status here. It made more sense when I read that supposedly, Petersen had an affair (this time with a woman - who knew?) with Sophie Brunet, the director of the documentary.
Given her age, appearance and likely financial means, if she keeps up this relationship, she'd better not take the stairs....
Petersen lied about his service in Vietnam. Yes, he went there but his injury occurred in Okinawa, not the battlefield. In a state like North Carolina where many of the jury members probably have personal or next of kin experience in the military, that would not sit well with them.
Finally, watching the progression and decline of his two adopted daughters, Martha and Margaret, was a cultural case study. They go from supportive, well adjusted and educated young white girls to delusional, up talking green-haired and tattooed typical American up-talking SJWs.
Sure, that could have happened anyway and was likely a function of the cultural changes since 2001. But any other man in Petersen's situation would be branded with the misogyny/#metoo stick, but this was their dad, and all they knew.
That said, one other daughter (the murdered woman's) abandoned him when the first trial resulted in a conviction. She knew he was full of it. Curiously, she didn't dye her hair odd colors, turn lesbian or social justice. She went off and got married & had kids. She isn't seen much in the later parts of the series - probably figured, correctly, that it would be too favorable in presentation for the man who murdered her mom.
Overall Peterson is consistent in his narcissism and megalomania - anyone seeing that series will quickly pick that up. If you watch a few episodes and find yourself not liking the guy, you've definitely been red pilled.

5.7 on imdb? Maybe those who think of this as satanism on purpose put negative votes.
Two series I would strongly recommend, both foreign made:
Gomorrah - An Italian made series about life inside the Neapolitan Mafia. Very gritty, compelling viewing.
Fauda - Israeli made series about the Israel-Palestine conflict. Like Gomorrah, the who texture of the thing just rings true for me, and I think it is an excellent production.

Started watching Condor and Legion yesterday. Recommend both. Legion has been mentioned several times but Condor just once. It deals with false flag attacks on american and middle eastern soil, deep state, betrayal and cover ups which were of course perpetrated by our favorite alphabet soup agency, CIA. First two episodes are out, check them out.
Gomorrah was a good series, 7 seasons I think.
"A stripper last night brought up "Rich Dad Poor Dad" when I mentioned, "Think and Grow Rich""
Tell them too much, they wouldn't understand; tell them what they know, they would yawn.
They have to move up by responding to challenges, not too easy not too hard, until they paused at what they always think is the end of the road for all time instead of a momentary break in an endless upward spiral

I had trouble getting into the show. So far, it is slow, boring, and filled with uninteresting knuckleheads. Sort of like a poor man's "The Sopranos." I stopped watching it a few months ago. But so many forum members have recommended it that I will continue to watch the first season. Perhaps it get better.
"Fauda" (Israel), "Dark" (Germany), "Generation War" (Germany), and "El Marginal" (Argentina) are my favorite non-English TV shows.

Just finished watching season 1 of Quarry. Shame they cancel it.
Generation War looks cool

Plowed through Season 1 of Fauda yesterday. Pretty funny how they include goat and cousin fucking
Gentlemen, I thank you for the recommendations. As soon as I finish watching Billions and Designated Survivor, I'll give Fauda a chance.
Babylon Berlin on Netflix. A detective story + political thriller set in the Weimar Republic 1929. Watch in the original German with subtitles.
Deals with issues like degeneracy, Commies, ((socialist-democrats)), and PTSD.

I thought the later seasons of designated survivor were shit so I stopped watching it. Not that I'm white, but the whole white male are terrorist narrative started getting on my nerves. Just finished season 2 of Fauda. It was good.

I watched the first episode last night. It looks very interesting. I like all the period clothing, trains, buildings, etc.
In the opening scene with the flashbacks to WWI, I laughed seeing the horse in the gas mask. I am a big history buff, especially war history, and I had never thought about the fact that if armies relied on horses, as they did in WWI, then the horses would need gas masks. History is fascinating.
I was really fascinated by that paternoster (an elevator consisting of a series of linked doorless compartments moving continuously on an endless belt) at the police station, because I had never seen one before:
Yeah that show is fascinating. It also deals with flappers and the start of the "liberated woman" and how they are essentially easily manipulated whores. I've watched it twice already.
The "Moka Efti" nightclub is fascinating also.

SJW - getting worse and worse:
Quote:Quote:
The June 21 episode “Call/Response” kicks off a lengthy discussion between the two about their lives and their powers until it all comes to a head when Tandy admits she's had thoughts of suicide. This sets Tyrone off and they compare themselves to each other and engage in a SJW battle over which victim group has things worse.
The show suggests that Tandy can have a dead father, a drug-addicted mother, no way to support herself, and still be better off than Tyrone who is middle class, attends private school, and has both parents at home because he is black and she is white. Apparently Tyrone doesn't have the privilege of thinking about suicide because he's too busy trying to stay alive with the entire country constantly out to kill him.
Quote:Quote:
Tyrone: What, you gonna teach me how to lie? You gonna teach me how to be a con man? Let me check your privilege.
Tandy: My privilege? I was just dropped off by a cop who told me that I can't press charges against a guy who almost...I had a lot of things taken from me. And everything I have, I had to steal because-
Tyrone: Because you can! You can walk into any room in this world and never be questioned! Try walking into a department store looking like me.
Tandy: That's not fair because I don't-
Tyrone: The world does! This whole country's trying to kill me every day. So excuse me if I can't afford to sit around and contemplate suicide. You know what, you wanna die so bad, why don't you just do it?
Tyrone should start blaming his tribe which is committing those crimes at rates 3000-4000% higher than Whites or Asians. If that drops, then the sometimes black shop owner is not going to eye you as suspiciously.
The show is really going insane - so the girl is trailer park poor with a drug addicted father, but he has less privilege because he is profiled more badly due to behavior patterns of his tribe?
Yeah - the whole country is trying to kill you.
And folk think that there is some "winning" or pushback. Nah - most people get their propaganda via TV and the crap everywhere.
I wonder how the Latinos will swallow all that Latino privilege when they are in the overwhelming majority? Probably have to do a white genocide first, because that is ultimately what those things lead to.
Is El Chapo any good? Obviously, probably not as good as Narcos.
