Above is a 97 second video illustrating the situation with President Nicholas Maduro of Venezuela as it is collapsing into a failed-state.
The video was promoted through Braulio Jatar Alonso (originally a Chilean national) who is the director of Reporte Confidencial (
http://reporteconfidencial.info/) and he was taken in stealth by SEBIN; a branch of the Venezuelan national intelligence and investigative security, and was confirmed to be in custody by SEBIN “por la seguridad y estado de salud” the next day after inquiries from his son (of the same name) who is an attorney. Currently he is being indicted on money laundering charges for allegedly having $25,000 USD in his car (from which he was abducted on his way to work the morning after the original video was posted) and has concurrently been charged with sponsorship of actions against the NAM Summit.
Maduro is on the Island before the XVII Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) which is a meeting of 120 non-aligned nations where Venezuela will take over the presidency.
Although Nueva Esparta is largely opposition, Maduro was in a pro-government area known as Villa Rosa giving a national televised and radio speech (cadena) where he and the governor, Carlos Mata Figueroa, were previously pontificating about how a section of 148 government houses were recently painted and re-roofed. The area is the second largest on the Island with almost 38,000 residents and is second only to Porlamar with slightly over 82,000 residents. The president decided to exit the motorcade to walk with people. At the 11 second mark of this video, Maduro can be seen in front on the center left wearing the long green shirt and black pants as he jogs for a few seconds to the center of the frame and then walks again.
The governor of Nueva Esparta was a former defense minister under Chavez who was attacked moments before Maduro. Another assailant was trying to throw tomatoes at the president. Most of the action happens between the 25 second and 40 second marks. Eventually Maduro´s Cuban bodyguards got to him.
The banging of the pots and pans (cacerolazo) in the background is a traditional Venezuelan sign of protest. The number of individuals arrested/detained thus far is 40 and the count is increasing from the original 2, then 20, then 30.
There are highly skilled contract security specialists participating on the staffs of ranking members of various delegations at NAM; the host country could benefit from such experience against the onslaught of tomatoes.
