Is achieving location independence getting more difficult to do as the US moves closer to economic collapse. If so what are the reasons? I am thinking increased debt, fewer dollars circulating in the economy, middle class disappearing and over supply saturating most markets may be some reasons in 2016 and onwards.
Location Independence Poll - 2016
Could be the opposite actually. I do freelance writing, for example. Instead of employers having to hire someone full-time, giving benefits, health care, HR, office space etc. They can just pay an hourly or flat rate to someone like me. They can even hire someone in the Philippines to do a job for mad cheap.
While I'm bearish on the US economy, I think the idea of a collapse is being exaggerated. You have to think with all the technology of there companies will take advantage of it, like he freelancing example.
Oh and I'm not location independent, just doing writing part time. Could do it full time and probably live off it but I don't like it and will probably be hanging up my boots in a few months.

It took me a full decade to get to the point where I could be location independent. It also took a lot of hard work and planning to get there and risks when it comes to personal capital. Entrepeneurship with multiple streams of income on top of that to weather good times and bad is the most realistic path for most people.
If a person is not willing to put in the work or do careful financial planning then it's doubtful they can achieve actual location independence.
A lot of people expect some casino type event to happen where they're set for life based on some random luck. Good luck with that. I notice even red pill guys are susceptible to this fairy tale. It may happen to a very slim % but most people just blow themselves out financially chasing fantasies.
A lot of people have misconceptions as to what location independence actually means.
The obvious..a lot of guys get by with paycheck to paycheck with jobs with long holidays overseas but that is not really location independence. Working on an oil platform doing 3 on 3 off is not L.I. unless you invest that money earned in a way that allows you freedom to work your own hours wherever you want. Teaching EFL is also not location independence. That's a long working holiday overseas but eventually you will still have to return.

El Chinito loco is right. I think part of why the other thread blew up is because many possible jobs/ways of making it happen have been mentioned numerous times on this forum. I went through and compiled them in this post. thread-55782.html
Mind you it took me all of 15 mins to put that post together, but some people can't even do that when they start new threads (the thread that blew up). 15 fucking minutes.
Because people just want the silver bullet. The easy lottery ticket.
It doesn't work that way.
You have to work.
OMG, I have to work - who would have thought that?

I wanted location independence, well before I even knew what RVF was and achieved it and have been traveling the world ever since. It took me maybe 2/3 years to get to that point after I decided it was something I wanted to go after, as I have a sales background for me it was easier then it will be for a lot of people as I was able to start my business and generate revenue immediately. Now with two businesses both generating income one in the mid six figures it gives me the ability to look into other opportunities to make my money work for me, once you've made LI doesnt mean sit back and be content atleast not for me and if you want to stay LI you should always be looking to grow, evolve and find other revenue streams.

Anybody could become "location independent" tomorrow by moving into an industry which has jobs worldwide (sales, teaching English, cooking).
But really what everyone actually means when they say "location independence" is actually "digital nomad" or living off of passive income in my experience.
Becoming a digital nomad freelancer on the other hand can take weeks or months, but to become a digital nomad entrepreneur or live off of passive income takes years.

There are different categories of location independence.
Most 'digital nomads' make 2K a month or less and they spent about everything they make. That's not a life I would want to live. If I wasn't able to make it as an internet marketer then I would try to find a well-paying job, stack cash, and then buy assets that could eventually make me 'location independent' (websites, rental properties).
