Great post, was there any danger riding a bike through those areas aside from getting hit by a car? As in being robbed or kidnapped or whatever. And are you able to easily take the bike to Peru and Ecuador with the same plates or did you have to sell it?

In colombia especially the roads are complete shit, so one of the risks are the giant deep potholes. Also towards the south some of the roads are completely unpaved and its super easy to eat shit.

As far as people stealing the bike, every single night I keep my bike locked up somewhere. I look for hotels/airbnbs that have parking listed, but if not, even in the smallest towns there are parqueaderos where you pay like 4 mil pesos to lock it up for the night. During the day youre fine, just dont leave it parked in a really shitty part of town.

My bike was a shitty cheap bike, but some americans come down here with harleys. That to me, is putting a target on your back for someone to rob you. My opinion is that if your gonna be riding through a poorer part of the world, dont drive a bike that costs 5 times their annual salary!!! Never had issues

My bike was bought in colombia and has colombian plates. Crossing into other countries is easy, you visit the Aduana officer at the border and they will give you paperwork to bring it in legally for however long you plan on being there.

Selling the bike would be a pain in the ass, You can only sell it legally in colombia, or pay out the ass in import taxes. HOWEVER, in Chile, there are two cities with tax free trade zones; Iquique (north near peru) and Punta Arenas (South near Tierra del Fuego). Im gonna be in Iquique for a few weeks to sell it. Ive read that the process is super easy, but others have said its straight up impossible, so i guess ill see soon.

" I met a venezuelan girl here at the restaurant she worked at. We spent a week fucking and chilling at my airbnb. Problem was that it was only a private room! The owner was some old lady who was very nosy! So i kept my girl on the low for a bit, but towards the end of my stay the owner saw my girl coming in and yelled at me for bringing in a prostitute! I told her it was just a friend but she wasnt having it, she left a terrible review on my airbnb account saying something like “brings prostitutes into the apartment”

Scotian, are there cannabis dispensaries in Colombia? I was reading about medical marijuana being available in Colombia and also a lot of big foreign cannabis corporations moving into the Colombian medical marijuana sector, so that's why I'm asking. I'm mainly interested in FECO (full extract cannabis oil).

I just spent a month in Bogota, and you can find only some stores that sell real cannabis products since it' s not legal to sell THC stuff. For cannabis go to How High in Chapinero he has few strains. Or another is Santa Maria on carrera 15 but he sells only wax and oils. I had once a brownie I bought from a guy selling on the flea market in Usaquen it was strong but not a particularly pleasant high.

So I got into an argument with forum members on a race thread a while back about ethnic appearance in South America so finally getting around to asking it on here.

Can people in South America tell the difference between their kind of brown (for those that are brown) and people we consider "brown" here in the US?

Like would a South Asian/Pakistani/Indian dude be mistaken as a local in Colombia or would people immediately look and be able to tell he is not one?

I have met Colombians and South Americans in the US and they could immediately tell I was not one of them. Then again, it could have to do with the fact that men of my background have a very poor perception of themselves and secretly wish they were Latinos so it could have been wishful thinking on that end.
of course they can tell the difference not only from skin color but the way you dress, or as soon as you speak ..

Sex tourism is big in Colombia. Because the cost of living is low and women, for the most part as western culture is creeping in, are still thin & feminine. Since wages are low, unfortunately many women feel they have to prostitute to live. There are RVF who moved to Medellín for the vaginal conquests (they are front hole hunters or pussy warriors ?)

However, pussy paradises have dark sides. While the violent narco past is in the past, there are still Leftist radical guerrilla groups out there. Also, there are attempts of underage prostitution of virgins for the monetary demands from perverted gringos. And both crime and corruption are still huge problems.

Interesting articles and stat's on the massive wage disparity in Colombia. DANE the national dept of Statistics just revised the groupings of poverty, middle class and upper class in Colombia. I imagine this is due to a new tax system and benefit plan's the govt is going to roll out soon. Regardless, what is striking to me is the breakdown of each class level.

On a side note.....I hope this info open's some fella's eyes on here that bitch about paying an uber or a taxi for a girl or a drink/meal....many of these girls live in very poor conditions and there really is not much money to go around for taxis/entertainment. Also this lends insight into why many scam/drug foreigners!

Finally, I often get asked about jobs in Colombia for foreigners...As I always say your way better off earning money abroad or online as the job market in Colombia pay's peanuts even for very skilled postions....bring your Euros/USD in to Colombia and live well....It's tough to make it here on a Colombian salary, unless you luck into a rare situation....

Colombia’s social classes per month earnings:

Lower than $97 (COP300,000) is considered impoverished: unable to meet basic needs. (27% of population)

Between $97 and $195 (COP300,000 and 600,000) is considered vulnerable: at risk of returning to poverty. (40% of population)

Between $195 and $970 (COP600,000 and COP3 million) is considered middle class; (31% of the population)

Above $970 (COP3,000,000) is considered upper class. (2% of population)

Another interesting piece of data is that 71% of the population of Colombia has under $10,000 of assests.....the number of wealthy here are truly in the top 1% or less....yet hold 40% of the wealth.....

I will link the English article summary and a more in-depth breakdown in Spanish. (The embedded video with the cute Colombiana in the El Tiempo article also details the breakdown of the #'s of elite wealthy with earnings over 1, 5, 100, 500 million USD)

I thought the minimum wage is ~800.000COP, which would be considered middle class.

So only 31% of the population does earn at least the minimum wage? The numbers seem off to me.

Also important: Do they mean WORKING POPULATION or GENERAL POPULATION?

That is mentioned in the article:

Colombia’s national statistics agency DANE announced that a middle-class person earns between $145 and $726 (COP450,000 and COP2,250,000) a month, while the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank´s new criteria label those earning more than $195 (COP600,000) per month as middle class. Both of these metrics place workers on minimum wage in the “middle class,” a grouping which holds more than 30% of the population.

Minimum wage in Colombia is $267 (COP828,116) per month, $65 above the “middle class” threshold set by the DANE last month.

These strange new measures come in the midst of a debate about wealth and privilege in Colombia, with major reforms due next year to the benefits system and the database that establishes who receives state aid and subsidies. In fact, 44% of workers in Colombia earn less than minimum wage, and the informal sector employs 75% of workers. Earnings also fluctuate significantly over the course of the year for most workers, making these measures difficult to verify accurately.

I am not an economist just wanted to highlight the major disparity in wealth that exists in Colombia....a small percentage holds a large chunk of the pie!

Since when does minimum wage equate to middle class???? I think you'd be better off looking at what various people are receiving as a pension to gauge what middle class is. Military/police/teachers. I think it would be in the 3 million per month range and significantly higher for higher ranks.

But importantly to note, what exactly do these incomes mean? There are so many possible one, it could be average net after tax income per person, or gross, or it can be average net or gross wage, or gross or net family/household income. So which one is it?

Is there currently an RVF crew in Bogota? Medellin? I'm trying to pick my next destination and it always helps if there's a support network to help you hit the ground running. I've never been to Latin America and I'm kind of hesitant to make the jump without knowing no one on the ground. I'm planning at least a year in Colombia.

Cortes, from one 19 year old to the other - what you wrote was legendary. I'm going to Mexico this summer again and I definitely got some inspiration, my plan is now similar, to rent a motorbike and fuck around the country a bit. I think one of the things that screws Colombians is that the benefits are very expensive to hire someone, also there is some weird law that you have to give your employees 1 month salary once a year. I would like to see the breakdown by city. I know Bogota is obviously the most expensive with the highest wages but I still remember meeting a venezuelan girl who made about 500,000 pesos a month. Maid positions which is obviously unskilled labor I have seen making anywhere from 800,000 to 1,100,000 a month.

Has anybody lived in Cali for an extended period of time also spent time in Santo Domingo or Santiago DR? I just got back from 9 months in Colombia, 3 in Medellin 6 in Cali and I am trying to plan my next move. I love Cali, but it can get boring after a while. I've read all the DR posts on the forum but want to see if someone can offer some insight on how the two compare to Colombia, for a long term living solution. If anyone wants to know about overstaying your visa in Colombia I can detail my experiences here. Thanks

Yeah looking back its pretty hilarious that I had these grandiose plans of traversing an unknown continent on a vehicle i had no idea how to drive. It was pretty easy to learn, but pretty much the day after i bought the thing i had to ride out to palomino two hours away... then riohacha... then back to santa marta... then to Bucaramanga... all within the span of the week, which is about a total riding distance of 20 hours all with zero riding experience. Its great it worked out, I put myself in a corner of needing to learn on the fly, and was able to continue with my adventure

Popayan is a nice city. Most of the prior cities i stayed in in colombia were chaotic. noisy, ridiculous traffic, you guys who have been to colombia all know how it is...

However popayan is a good sized city that just felt so much calmer. Its a somewhat religious city, having a few cathedrals in the town center. The time I went, they had their ¨fiesta de reyes¨ or three kings day January 5th. they throw powder and shit at each other in the center and there is a parade as well. There wasnt much for night life, however if you base yourself near the central plaza you will have plenty of day game opportunities. If you prefer to daygame, this is a great city. But if nightgame is your shit, not too sure you would enjoy it too much. Its pretty close to cali, so if your in that area I would reccomend you visit this place and see if you like the vibe

Im in some shit hostel in chile at the minute, when im on my computer in the next few days ill find some pictures of popayan and post them

Thanks mate, its cool to see theres another dude my age whos going into this type lifestyle of going on adventures to new countries and meeting sexy exotic women. Definetly have to meet up with you some time man

as far as the motorcycle goes, if I were you, I would look into buying a motorcycle in texas, traveling through mexico and selling it back in the usa. Obviously depends on how long you are planning to travel, if its for a couple of weeks, its more practical to rent (can get pricey!). But if its for a month or two then I would buy and sell a motorcycle, as you would get almost all the money you spent on it back.

I'm so conflicted with Bogota right now. It's a massive city with horrible traffic and pollution. My stress levels are going up because of all the traffic. Don't even waste your time trying to take an Uber or bus during rush hour. Thing with Bogota is that girls are hot and pretty easy. I'd say it's on par with Bangkok for how easy girls are. Girls are great here, but personally it's not a good city to live in long term. The air pollution and stress will shorten your life span. If your only objective in life is to get laid, then I'd highly recommend Bogota. You can clean up pretty well here if you're decent looking. It's unfortunate that there are so many bad things about Bogota, otherwise it'd be paradise.

Lol This reminded me the day I came across with the Rooshv forum 3 years ago on google. I typed Why bogota sucks?, medellin vs bogota, I hate bogota. Why is bogota a shithole. My life changed ever since.

Now, for those who complain about how unlivable the city is, have you heard about or tried Chía? It's a suburban district/town on the north where all the elites have been escaping to. Lots of malls, bars, universities and high-class colombian girls who are living there. I remember an irish-colombian girl in my university days who used to live there along with some cuties whom I had no chances with because I was too shy and lived like 30KM away from there. Man they were hot as fuck.

Lately, I dated an asian-looking Llanera who lived there and it looks like the ratios are good as she was overly kind and nice to me, compared to the regular bogotanas who usually have me to jump through a few more hoops than usual. Now She's dating a scrawny belgium guy now though. Haha My Pesos are not match for those Euros man. Cheers gentlemen.

So just finished 5 days in Cali, first time here. My quick thoughts, its like a slightly crappier medellin. not as quite as pretty , both the city and the girls. But girls are a little easier then medellin, I pulled every day I was here. there is a slight smell of burning garbage everywhere in the air. Still way better then most south american cities girl wise

Cali kinda sucks for a short trip and if you go for just a few days or a week, you probably won’t like it. If you stay for a month or more and get into some social circles then it starts to get a lot better, it's my favourite city in Colombia but it definitely isn’t for everyone.

She was a 21 y/o university student. She wasn't affectionate like sweet, but she was nice and would usually look for me. If by affectionate you mean 'tierna' (that's the word we use in here for girls who like to cuddle and you know girl stuff) she wasn't much but I didn't get to meet her to much as things didn't go further because I had abundance and now I regret somehow not keeping her around. Asshole game is great for pulling but it backfires easily I guess.
