Best apartment style for a single male?

I read the thread called Studio Apartment and I also read this post on ROK about bachelor pads:

http://www.returnofkings.com/5465/5-bach...essentials

But I want to hear forum members opinions or suggestions on what worked and did not work for them.

I can afford about $850 a month rent and I am thinking mainly like luxury apartment/town home with a dishwasher and laundry book up.

You'll only be able to find a studio for that price in maybe a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th tier city for that price.

1 bed rooms at that price point will only be in 3rd or 4th tier cities.

What city do you live in?

I live in a metropolitan area of the southern Midwest. Even in the big city....I can find 1000sq ft "apartments" that are floors of older rehabbed historic houses for less than $600 a month in middle/less affluent areas.

What do you want to achieve with your flat?

Do you want a place that you can bring girls to?

Do you want a place to host groups? How many people at one time?

I guess mainly girls. But friends that will supposedly visit from Europe too. I am getting myself back into shape, rebuilding my credit and improve my overall lifestyle. There is a junior college right near me. I am thinking about maybe relocating to a place right near there. I am going to take night classes and get into dating people from school or aim for women I see at the stores or other places near here. There are a lot of women right here in the air force. Wal-Mart is right across from the college and a lot of single women in the early evening shopping.

If you're not in a completely financial solid position, put your maximum budget as price ceiling, but if you find something that works for cheaper, take it.

Space is nice, but it comes at a premium. Better to choose a smaller place that smells good and is attractively furnished than a bigger places that feels and looks cheap. You don't want to bring girls back to larger place that sucks. Better to bring them back to a cozy place that feels good inside.

If you can save $200 a month by taking a smaller place, that $200 a month will go a long way some basic interior decorating that will really spruce even a smaller place up.

It is no fun to barely be able to afford everything you need each month. Give yourself as much wiggle room as possible if you are on a restricted budget and trying to restore your credit rating/pay off debt.

My 2 cents - I'd go with a studio. If you're after college girls, anything better than a dorm room will be fine. I'd try to get it close to the local bars or restaurants, women change their minds quickly during the trip from a bar to your bed.

Studios offer the added distinct advantage of having the girl already be in your bedroom when she gets there.

I appreciate the info. It always helps to have other perspectives. I can afford a little higher rent. But I just wonder how many single guys have a really nice place and you Mack on some younger early/middle 20s girl that works at the gas station across town and your bring her into a nicer place. ;')

I might get a discoball too. But I dunno if they would find that very funny? I know that I would.

Sometimes I see prices like this and it makes me really upset

Depending on your age too it might be worth it to have roommates for the social aspect, plus saving money, even in a dirt cheap place like that

Ok Ringo. I did not see it in my search results. I use my phone.

Sonoma: having roommates (family) got me partially into the situation that I am now. I am early thirties and my cousin and family members cannot or do not pay their fair share and think because some one makes more than they do...the higher earner should pay more of the rent.

I allowed this a time or two...but I ended it after it went beyond a favor. Family will try tofuck you over just the same as a chick will. So, help people out sparingly, if and when you can. But do not support anyone but yourself.

Where do you live and what do you want to do with the apartment? How much space do you need? What do you want its location to be?

If you just want to get girls over, you don't need much more than a studio. If you want your logistics to be better, say within 10 minutes of major venues, you might need to pay more.

If you want to have a healthy sex life, you need a place that is no more than 20 minutes from venues where you can girls out to on the first date.

That way, your logistics are sound. If you don't have a car, if you live a 20 minute walk away (or less), you can tell them it's a 10 minute walk to your place.

If you have a car, make sure you are within 20 minutes drive of first date venues. Then you can just tell them it's a 10 minute drive to your place.

In either case, by the time they figure out that 10 minutes actually means 20 minutes, you'll have them at your front door.

A smaller place is much easier to keep spotlessly clean, as long as you have a relatively minimalist lifestyle and your place isn't cluttered with too much junk.

I will be looking into an apartment or house in a major city here in the UK sometime in the near future. Still not sure on which one to go with.

As a rule of thumb.
20 yr olds like that you have a place they can let themselves go.
25 yr olds like that you have a place they feel comfortable.
30 yr olds like that you have a place they want to live in.

The one thing that definitely sets all places apart for me is this: a consistent theme.

I keep things either black, white or gray. Most people have a collection of things that make up their house they accumulated randomly over a period of time. Different genres, different eras, different styles, all clashing together to make a monument to compromise in a man's lifestyle. I guess it's fine if you're looking to have an ordinary place. Personally I prefer something a little more defined.

I try to keep a theme of black, white, and gray. The three colors work well together and make the whole place seem much more intentional and well planned. Sheets, pillows, blankets, rugs, etc... Doesn't matter the combination of the three colors, it goes well together and looks thought out.

If you are going to impose your will on the world, you must have control over what you believe.

Get an open plan studio / lofe type setup. Get one of those dip/pullup bars, couch and a bed. Keep it simple.
