Nice thread. I am in the boat of how can I monetize it. A hot chick can take selfies all day and have thousands of likes. But will a potential advertiser pay her or one of the other thousand who do the same exact thing?
I saw a YouTube video of some young guy taking short videos of the exotic cars in London. Dude was driving an Audi sports car.

I guess having a niche angle will separate you from the pack and allow you to monetize.

For certain ventures you might have to pay to play in the beginning until they see you as legitimate then you can get ass kissing and freebies. Even starting a modelling type of agency with Instagram. Hiring professional models then once you have content and look legitimate, then they will see you as "one of them" in the industry and not some random person. In the case of shooting exotic cars on the road, one may parlay that into shooting yachts and jets. Having a niche angle, thousands of followers on YouTube, Instagram might get you in the door. Of course word of mouth amongst the wealthy goes a long way.

I managed to grow my IG page from 150 to 850 followers within the past 10 days. My best pics have more than 200 likes which means that 20-25% of my followers are liking my pictures which is a pretty good ratio I think. I will keep up my current strategy and try to get at least 10k followers this way and then see how much damage I can do with my IG account in terms of girls.

Just breezed by this thread and I'd like to speak on this a bit.

Sometimes there's just no rhyme or reason as to why people gravitate to certain posts and not others.

I remember on fb posting a picture of my first published newspaper article.

As the text for the pic, I wrote something like this:

"My first article in a county-wide newspaper and one of the words in the headline is 'poop'. My writing career is off to a fantastic start. #lol"

There were no pictures on the article so the "visual-ness" of it was kinda boring. Also I hadn't been on fb in a while so I wasn't expecting anybody to care. It was just something I was personally proud of and wanted to share.

I wake up the next day and there are like 56 likes and counting (which is a lot to me).

Maybe 40 people woke up that day and decided that they really like pencils. You'll probably never really know the true reason. All you can do is just experiment and take notes after the fact.

This combination of experimentation and happenstance is why Obama's email campaign was so popular during the election period. Although his team tested out email headlines meticulously, they also found that some email headlines just happened to lead to more sign-ups then others, with no real way to explain why.

I thought it seemed a bit high. I am currently building an instagram account for my online business. I am pretty late to the game so I am still figuring out the value of an account. I have been focused on driving traffic to my site but I am more intrigued by the idea of being able to directly monetize my account.

When you say you don't make anywhere near that amount, have you been approached by possible sponsors/advertisers? Or did you go after them yourself?

I am a regular citizen and I have 3 Instagram accounts

One where i post funny pictures with 231,000 followers, another one where i post hot girls with 51,000 followers, and one where i post funny videos with 22,000 followers. I am just a regular civilian (304K total and i started January of 2015)

I make money in two ways

1. People buy advertising from me (Example: i help them grow their accounts or I advertise their product/service)
2. Affiliate Marketing- affiliate marketing is hard to explain. I basically get paid every time someone visits the website I am advertising or buys the product/app I am advertising. Here is the definition from google.
Affiliate marketing is a type of performance-based marketing in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought by the affiliate's own marketing efforts.


I have been approached by sponsors and i could probably make more money if i went out and looked for sponsors myself but its hard with my busy work schedule.

I have several social accounts and was contacted by an agency for monetization. I feel like I am too small to make it worthwhile but with 300K+ followers, you may want to look into working with an agency.

I wrote a python script for someone who started a bodobuilding instagram account. the script would follow users who were already following bodybuilding instagrams, and then some of those users (about 20%) would follow back. When the python script had followed the max amount of accounts instagram allows, all accounts would be unfollowed & the process would begin again

Last time I checked, the instagram account had over 50k followers , and the client was getting offers from nutrition/protein/fitness companies to advertise their stuff on his account

Because the accounts followed were high quality (i.e non-robot accounts already interested in fitness) the account had a high interaction rate

That makes sense. I was under the impression that you had a personal account with that many followers, which would be very impressive.

In this case you are essentially republishing content created by third parties (pictures, videos, etc), correct? Do you attribute credit at all?

I'm interested in how you deal with this, because if the above is true you are probably making money on other people's creations and infringing copyrights.

I give credit on a picture to picture basis.

If i take a funny picture from someone small i give credit because i feel they deserve it.

If i steal a picture from a huge Instagram page that that never gives credit to anyone, then i do not give credit to them.

After reading this thread I've started my IG account about a month ago. Since then I've gotten to 800 followers and I am still slowly growing.
My IG efforts have just started to give returns. I am stranded on this pussy dry (if you are not willing to pay) island of Batam, due to my work. Quality girls are hard to find here.
