Daredevil (2015 netflix series)

I remember that Whedon quote. Jeez, what a faggot. How can a man let words like that come out of his mouth! 'The X-Men aren't killing people?!' Wolverine's claws can't do anything BUT kill people!

Yeah Batman has good intentions and all but when one punch can kill, no way has he got away without killing/crippling shitloads of puny henchmen in his time.

At least Castle's victims stay permanently out of action and he's likely saved thousands of lives as a result. How many times does the fucking Joker etc. have to break out of prison and go on another killing spree cos Bats can't bring himself to just kill one teensy-weensy little supervillain when nobody's looking!

Pretty meh 3rd season. Daredevil just kept getting his ass kicked. Guy has to be a massive lump of scare tissue by now.

Fell asleep during the flashback episode on the redhead chick. She's pretty useless imo but I guess every show needs a damsel in distress.

I'm just a few episodes into the 3rd season of Daredevil and am enjoying it thus far. What keeps this show above all the other Netflix superhero duds for me, is a combination of two things; the acting by D'Onofrio and Cox (as Fisk and Daredevil) and the superb fight choreography.

Fisk oozes menace and power (as he should) and steals every scene he's in. Charlie Cox somehow keeps you rooting for Daredevil through all the insane beatings he soaks up. Those punches, elbows, knees and kicks all have a real, visceral impact.

Talking of beatings ......

... I won't give away spoilers except to say that there is a prison fight in one of the early episodes that is quite simply out of this world. Seriously, this (I'll call it an 'extended fight') is perhaps the best example of its kind I have ever seen in over 40 years of watching movies and television.

I read that they filmed it in one take, from the infirmary through the hallway to where he meets with the foreign mob guys, even though the director was initially a bit skeptical when the fight coordinator suggested it.

VERY MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD

.....MikeS, the whole segment was superbly done. From the moment Matt Murdock was first attacked with the needle until he emerged into the daylight, via a brief interlude with the Albanians I was on the edge of my seat. Murdock just got the shit kicked out of him with loving attention to detail, that scene where he is down on the floor and someone runs in from off-camera and just knees him in the fucking face! Then to watch him wander further down the corridor, breathing heavy, sounding like he's gonna have a heart attack and then more bad guys come into frame! The red lights, alarms and rioting inmates in the background all added to the intensity and surrealism.

I can't rate the fight scenes from all 3 seasons highly enough. Even though we know Daredevil is taking impossible hits to the face, the makers manage to maintain an aura of bone-crunching plausibility throughout.

I hope the rest of the season is as good, but even if it's not, this classic scene is worth this months Netflix subscription on its own.

Cancelled. Sounds like the Mouse is involved:

Quote:Quote:

EXCLUSIVE: The ax continues to fall on Marvel’s series at Netflix. Daredevil, which launched the Marvel universe on the streaming platform, has been canceled after three seasons. The move comes on the heels of Netflix canceling Iron Fist and Luke Cage last month – but Daredevil seems to have an afterlife elsewhere.

“Marvel’s Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix,” the streamer said in a statement tonight to Deadline. “We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note.””We’re thankful to our partners at Marvel, showrunner Erik Oleson, the show’s writers, stellar crew and incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself, and we’re grateful to the fans who have supported the show over the years,” Netflix added just a month after the third season of the series launched on the service.

However, unlike Iron Fist or Luke Cage, the door seems to be wide open for the blind protector of NYC’s Hell’s Kitchen, perhaps on the upcoming Disney+ streaming platform.

“While the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel,”Netflix said also.

With The Defenders never intended to return beyond its 2017 miniseries run and Iron Fist and Luke Cage dropped, the cancelation of Daredevil so soon after its highly anticipated and acclaimed third season was released, now leaves only two Marvel series on Netflix, Jessica Jones and The Punisher.

Whether those “future projects means Cox’s Daredevil makes an appearance with his Defenders colleague or the Jon Bernthal led vigilante series remains to be seen. A Daredevil series on the planned Disney streaming platform or another movie could be an option too, though that the latter seems unlikely, we hear.

The era of Marvel TV on Netflix seems to be coming to an end at the same time Disney is revving up its own streaming service with already announced Loki and Scarlett Witch series for Disney+ coming from Marvel’s Kevin Feige led film division. For now, the upcoming new seasons of Jessica Jones and The Punisher are still currently scheduled to run on Netflix as planned, sources say.

Overall, the cancellation of the series starring Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, who had been tweeting about a forth season in the past few weeks, shows just how strained relations between Netflix and the Jeph Loeb run Marvel TV have become. A far cry from when their multi-series deal was first announced back in 2013 with big smiles and almost bigger plans.

The current state of affairs became painfully evident when the SVOD player abruptly pulled the plug on a third season of Luke Cage last month. One week after Iron Fist was pink slipped, that October 19 cancellation of Harlem’s Hero came after the nearly half scripts had been written for a Season 3 and a formal renewal had been considered a foregone conclusion.

The fact is times have changed on the digital landscape and Marvel shows on Netflix are costly to make, even with New York’s generous tax credits, which had an extra clause added to accommodate the series. When the initial deal with Marvel/Disney was made by Netflix five years ago, the company, desperate to gain big draw content, laid out big bucks for the series – which it never owned. Now the situation is very different, which Netflix awash in new series and returning series that it holds the keys too.

In that context, Netflix and Marvel TV have also been arguing over the season orders and that may have played a role in Daredevil’s demise, as it did Luke Cage‘s. Being part of the first wave of Netflix original series, all Marvel series have produced 13-episode seasons. But Netflix has since switched to seasons of 10 episodes and has been pressuring Marvel TV to switch to fewer episodes, which the company had been resisting.

There also have been creative issues, with a revolving door of showrunners on Marvel’s Netflix shows. There have been new showrunners for every season of Daredevil, with Iron Fist for and Jessica Jones’ also undergoing a showrunner change.

A shame, as (despite the wearying, predictable, immediately-dating political commentary) Season 3 was very much a return to form for the show and consistently entertaining. But honestly, I'd rather the show end where it did. Matt Murdock got such a heavy character workout this season and had such a fulfilling battle with his archenemy that it's hard to imagine a season that would test him without retreading old ground. Better to finish here with its head held high.

I truly fucking hate Disney.

Not even Matt Murdoch would have sensed this one coming.

Netflix announced on Thursday it is cancelling Daredevil — one of the streaming service's most beloved series — after just three seasons.

Fans reacted with fury online — with many suspecting Marvel owners Disney were secretly behind the move.

I've watched all 3 seasons of Daredevil and as I've posted before, it's been quality throughout and I'll be sorry to see it go.

It will be amusing though to watch Disney give it the 'Last Jedi' treatment on their own streaming service soon to launch.

That leaves Jessica Jones season 3 (I really don't care) and Punisher season 2. I think both are in production so they are probably safe - and will then get the axe after airing.

Yeah exactly. No way they keep Jessica Jones and Punisher if DD has gotten the axe.

Two-fold issue according to an article I came across somewhere today, and which sounded very plausible. One, they don't want to indirectly advertise for new Marvel content on the upcoming rival Disney streaming service - a service which will also be stripping Netflix of all MCU movies, and two, apparently the series haven't brought in as many new Netflix subscribers as hoped, even though they've been a hit with current ones.

Am I missing something? If Daredevil was profitable, why would they cancel it? What's Disney doing wrong here?

Disney is about to start a streaming service so they're probably consolidating everything under that new roof. It would be hard to attract subscribers if their content was available everywhere.

Same goes for DC. I bet you start to see the CW shows coming over to join Titans.

Also Netflix fronted a majority of the costs for the production of the show

Daredevil is definitely the best show out of The Defenders.

It brought out "Bullseye," his top comic book enemy, who turned out to be a total badass in the show.

Bullseye is now a badass villain who I can get behind because he tore it up being manipulated by Wilson Fisk.

Fisk created a monster who will rise up to be Daredevil's greatest enemy. He kicked Daredevil's ass and turned Daredevil into a killer (so I hope).

Bullseye was the catalyst to turn Daredevil into the antihero that the show needed. Only way Bullseye can be stopped, is for him to die. Hope Daredevil makes a compromise with Fisk to end Bullseye.

Another part of me wants Bullseye to go continue going rogue and reign hell on Hell's Kitchen and make Daredevil his bitch.

Can't wait until next season.

In the comics, Karen Page sold Murdoch's identity for crack (or heroin.) [Image: FullSizeRender1.jpg]

I think that would have been a more interesting way to get the identity.
