I healed my lower back pain w/ McKenzie exercises

I messed up my lower back a few months ago and self-diagnosed myself with a bulging/herniated disc. Since then I have been plagued with constant pain in my left lower back. While I'm not really incapacitated, it is annoying and lowers my quality of life, and makes me feel 'old'. Also, it prevents me from doing heavy/medium squats, which I really enjoy.

Well did some internet research and found out about the McKenzie exercises, which are supposed to push the disc back in place and away from the nerve. I've been doing them regularly for the past week and they provided some relief, though the pain was still there.

Well today after a session of air squats and I did the exercises...and lo and behold it feels like the disc snapped back into place. it's been a few hours and I feel no pain at all, completely back to normal. It is absolutely exhilarating, like this great weight has been lifted of my shoulders. I thought I might be screwed for life, so right now I am really happy.

Just want to share this with people who might benefit. I am happy to go into more detail if people would find it helpful.

Thats great news. Yes, it works, its called the McKenzie Method. Its the best and most effective back therapy available. You can learn in a few sessions. Find a PT that only does it, to teach you the movements. I work with mine and he's 7000 miles away in Hawaii, and we meet over Skype.

Not the same type of back pain you've been feeling, but for many years I - like countless other people - had problems with frequently recurring minor backache, and additionally I threw out my back once or twice a year and was incapacitated for a week or more when it happened.

I fixed both issues around five years ago by cutting down drastically on sitting. I spend a lot of time in front of a computer and after switching to a standing work desk (it's a fixed height desk so no option for sitting at all) my back problems just went away in less than two months. The few times since I have started getting small hints of backache again, the cause has been obvious - too much sitting down in the previous couple of weeks.
It took a couple of weeks to get my body - feet in particular - used to standing up for long stretches at a time, but after that it wasn't noticeably more straining than sitting down and leaves me feeling much better overall.

Datasheet coming soon. Right now I'm just evaluating my own results. I've had a couple small twinges of pain today but on the whole it still seems to be as well-healed as yesterday. But for now I would recommend this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trWBj8pJXV8

I vouch for Mackenzie exercises, along with Egoscue exercises:

I jacked up my lower back when I was in my early twenties working as a banquet waiter in a big hotel chain.

We had to carry heavy giant trays full of plates and glasses day in and day out.

My back's never been quite the same.

But doing these exercises along with spinal decompression hangs, yoga, and of course strength training ("Strength fixes everything") has kept me in fine form and virtually injury free (as far as serious injuries go) through 5 years of competitive jiu jitsu and about a year of lifting.

Do you guys know if this would help neurological issues after breaking a vertebrae? I do a ton of yoga and stretching, but still have issues with spasticity and tone of the muscle after regaining the ability to walk.
