So it took Rio ten years to build a single metro line for the Olympics but it stops short 8 miles from the Athlete's village, which means the athletes have to take a bus first which means their commute will be over an hour long.

^ Likely stops 8 miles short of Athlete's Village for safety reasons. But maybe this gives thieves an opportunity to know where the metro line connects to the bus stop so they can make timely muggings....

I heard China wanted to invest & help build bullet train between cities like São Paulo, Rio, Belo Horizonte, Campinas, and Curitiba along with other infrastructure upgrades within the country. The Communist BRL government is disallowing it however.

I don't care about Olympics anymore because they've been thoroughly corrupted to become yet another SJW escapade, but I really pity the countries which have the Olympics thrust upon them by corrupt politicians. The Olympics should permanently be relocated to Greece so that the same facilities are used every four years and produce a steady stream of revenue, plus it's Greece's heritage and...

@Handsome Creepy Eel
Yeah the practice of pushing stupid SJW agendas on others & raking in all the ticket revenue fees while making the city cover all the overhead hosting expenses. That's the Olympic Committee for you.

Got a link on this?

I find it awkward how the contractual 3rd party Olympic security firm has been relieved of their duties so that everything now lies upon local Rio police to take on extra responsibilities; same police force that is severely underpaid if not still waiting on paychecks from past months.

Don't forget a Judo athlete from Sweden was kidnapped along with his girlfriend. The kidnappers extorted them and they were the local authorities! [Image: lol.gif]

Bernie Ecclestone's mother in-law was also kidnapped.

Goodness. I don't think I'd hire any Brazilian construction firms any time soon. Seems like there's no building codes and cut rate work all around. I thought things were bad IN SEA, Brazil looks even worse!

I thought this was the same ramp that collapsed in April, but nope it's a second collapse. The sidewalk ramp that collapsed in April was built as part of Olympic rejuvenation:

We have a very real possibility of Olympic athletes dying, either from shoddy construction or thug violence.

This is a great start! I'm hoping for utter chaos and complete failure at the Rio Olympics, because 1) I hate the Olympics and IOC and 2) in the ensuing continued economic collapse I'm hoping to buy an Ipanema penthouse on the cheap.

Coisas do Brasil... [Image: undecided.gif]

I'm really curious to see how things will unfold after the Olympics are over. When I head abroad and start my new vagabond/diginomad life at the end of the year I may have to go somewhere else instead of returning to Rio. I was there for 3 months in late 2014/early 2015 and had no problems at all, but if thing have really gotten so much worse then it would probably be a better idea to explore some other cities until things bounce back.

What's funny to me is that despite everything going to shit and the recession getting worse and worse, for some reason the Real has been making a steady comeback over the last few months... [Image: huh.gif]

I have some close friends and former teammates competing in the Rio Olympics. Hopefully they will be safe. Can't help feel some dread keeping in mind the current global conditions, but then again the Euros went well.

The only members of Olympic teams that will be partial safe going to and fro the games are part of the shooting teams walking with their weapons in hand. I'm waiting for news of good numbers of the national teams to be kidnapped and ransoms by some the drug gangs. This will not end well by the looks of things.

I like this idea - or maybe have a few rotating venues. It's just a total waste to build new facilities for every Olympics.

If only you knew how bad things really are.

I will be in Rio for the Olympics. Making it on the 11th and staying there for a month at least. Please PM if someone else is there, could be fun [Image: smile.gif] Have a ticket for different sports everyday. Most are cheap, some are expensive. (Athletics/Swimming/Horse stuff/Gymnastics)

I remember that before the World Cup 2014, all kind of pessimism was all over the internet. I was there. I arrived worried. I left with one of the best time in my life.
I can't believe that Brazil managed well an event spread in more than 10 cities and would fail with one event in only one city.

That said, the economy sure has collapsed since then... We will see. At least, I hope I can still bang a few girls [Image: smile.gif] Probably more when the games will finish [Image: smile.gif]

Well, I read they just finished the construction of the new metro in Rio, which is going to be used only by the sportsmen and their teams till 19th of September.

They still have problems with the Zika virus.

^ With all due respect Killarmy, Brazil was in a much better position economically mid-2014 (not saying alot) than in present day mid-2016. I moved there mid-2015 and left most recently while seeing things worsening by the month....

Not to derail the thread, but if you have HBO and get the chance, watch the "Real Sports with Bryant Gumble" about the Olympics and IOC corruption. Holy shit. The Olympics might as well be a celebration of totalitarian achievement as much as athletic achievement.

The Zika virus fears are grossly overblown, it's a fairly benign virus that's been around for a while. The correlation with fetus abnormalities/microcephaly is actually very low, it's been overblown for political reasons in order to push vaccines, mask the problems with powerful pesticides that might be the real reason, and to introduce things like GMO mosquitoes funded by the likes of Bill Gates.

For a pregnant woman, it would be more dangerous to go near cats (many of which carry the parasitic Toxoplasma Gondii bacteria) than to go to Rio (provided you don't get mugged/shot/raped).
