No new episode of Alone this week due to the Showing of "Roots". I wasn't planning on watching Roots, but I was curious to see why they would remake the original. It started off keeping me interested but the ending was a huge disappointment and felt almost unbelievable. If you're going to remake a Classic, you have to come better than that. I'm glad Alone is back this week, unless they bump it for Roots reshowings[Image: confused.gif]

And there I was thinking the uploader on KAT just got lazy [Image: tard.gif]

Haha, she had the dumb luck to be camped in the middle of the salmon run and had the best food situation out of all the contestants. When the salmon dried up she started "missing her children" really badly and tapped 3 days after catching her last fish. Coincidence? Maybe.

This show is great, watched entire season 1. It became obvious to me that isolation is something humans simply are not built for, all of them break down and cry and sob. Man is simply not meant to be a solitary animal.

After watching the first season I was particularly interested in Lucas' obsession with 'Greatness'. He talked frequently about how a large part of the reason he was out there was to prove that he could be great. As part of the late Generation Y, I noticed this common problem affecting many of my peers, especially in university. Many had this fixation on achieving a feat of great magnitude or becoming the best/most knowledgeable at a random skill/topic. Not necessarily because they intensely enjoyed their fixation, but to prove to others that they weren't just some nobody.

I'm starting to believe that many of them are confusing greatness with fame. In this age of constant social media presence there is this pressure for them to succeed. To prove to everybody that they are special. And so they set out to achieve something that will achieve them renown because T.V & social media has influenced them to believe that is normal. But that is not how greatness is achieved. The people I have met who have become skilled at a certain hobby (soccer) or occupation have done so because they enjoyed it. Enjoyed it so much that they took it to the extreme level that is required. I somewhat came to this conclusion after spending time in more rural areas and noticing that the people there were more laid-back with regards to their lifestyle and life in general (I believe due to the smaller penetration of the social media tentacles that have warped the psyche of the suburban and city dwellers).

I would be interested to know if some of the older guys on this forum have noticed this among their peers or if this is a phenomena that is more recent.

Yes, it is definitely a more recent knowledge which ties into a good Roosh article here: http://www.rooshv.com/the-future-of-game

Ah yes I thought I remembered Roosh writing something about it in the past. Good thing I didn't go trawling back trying to find it, would have taken me ages to get back to 2010. I suppose that answers my question really, he noticed these effects 6 years ago and the seed of the problem probably started not too long before that.

I actually re-watched the parts of Lucas and interestingly enough it looks as if though his obsession with 'Greatness' wasn't caused by social media addiction, but by having a strong father figure who he viewed as a hero. I can empathise with that and he seemed to resolve his issues (at least on the surface) before deciding to tap out so kudos to him.

It showed that her longevity on the show was largely due to good fortune.

She was an expert on gathering, but that's only good when temperatures are high enough that all the plant life doesn't freeze. In a survival situation, it ultimately comes down to protein supply, a need that she was only able to fulfil due to excellent luck with a gill net, which is something that others who survived longer than her did not have.

She lacked the necessary skills to go to a plan B. The guys who outlasted her survived only by engaging in inventiveness and going to plan B and C when necessary.

Fuck you feminism.

Caught the reunion show tonight. I had to laugh at Clarence, he only lasted a couple of hours.

The whole time there he was petrified of seeing bear shit all over his location. No mention of seeing a bear during his stay, but during the reunion show he tells a story of how a bear charged at him, causing him to "tap out". What a lying piece of shit(no pun intended).

He probably went home and got his balls busted by all his friends and family and had to come up with the bear charge story to save face.

Just watched the finale. This season had some interesting parallels to the first season.

In the first season, the people who figured out the environment best, who was the best survivalist, were the people who hung around the longest. Contrast that to this season, where the optimal survival strategy had already been worked out in the first season.

Because of this, the last two survivors were the most incompetent competitors of the group. Throughout the show, these two were always the ones struggling the most, getting the most frustrated and angry, and having the least success with finding food. They did stupid shit like letting fish out of their gill nets, leaving fish on a rock for birds to steal, building shelters on swamps, throwing their fucking handreels into the ocean by accident. However, this turned out to be an advantage.

After weeding out the first few contestants, there were about 3 or 4 competitors who either suffered an accident, or simply figured out the survival and got bored. They started thinking about things other than survival, of their family, of their loneliness. Then they tapped out.

I think that this quote by the eventual winner perfectly sums up the results for this season:
"If you don't have air, you're not thinking about water. If you don't have water, you're not thinking about how hungry you are. If I have food, then I start doing things like missing my kids, I start thinking about the fact that I'm alone."

Season 3 just started up. This season they are in a different location(Patagonia).

I won't spoil it and give any specific details, but after episode 1, there is already a Tap out. There are also 3 women contestants again(2 I WB).

Season 3 Ep 2 - So far it seem like the Patagonia terrain is a lot more unforgiving than Canada. I think I would rather take my chances with the bears, than the Pumas and the Wild boars.

**SPOILER ALERT**

The Axe claims another victim. This is a show where the tools you brought to help you can also send you home.

Always respect your tools! Bad things happen when you get complacent, and that scene showed it clearly.

My only gripe with the current season is that despite being located in Patagonia and despite knowing in the back of my mind that it's in Patagonia, when watching the show it for all intents and purposes looks like.... they're still in Vancouver Island for the third straight time!

What is the point of changing locations when the new location is completely indistinguishable from the old location?

It must be a bitch to find a spot where they won't be disturbed at all. It's amazing to look at that giant lake they're on and not see anyone else on it, no houses on the distant shorelines, etc.

That spot on Vancouver island isn't real far from civilization.

Honestly my favorite so far is Callie.

Calorie counting dude is sitting around ranting about how you need to be a tough, no bullshit motherfucker to survive out here, meanwhile hippie girl is like "Yay, best vacation ever! I feel one with mother nature! Know what, a sauna would be nice, I'm gonna build one - done, it works, uuuuh, so warm and nice! So great to be alive!"
Sometimes I think she found some shrooms off camera. [Image: lol.gif]

I think she built the nicest shelter in the history of the show so far, she has firewood stacked up, doesn't seem to be starving at all, seems mentally strong. Also the clothes hangers, the dream catchers and the chair are just hilarious. And she totally got me at the end, I admit it.
She already outlasted three guys too. Those spider bites in the preview looked bad though.

Meanwhile Fowler is still living under his tarp. Dude is spending far too much energy on vanity projects. Also, I'm just waiting for him to fall into his own boar trap. Why would you build it on your own trail? He's starving, the moment will come when he forgets about it for a split second and, you know. To be fair though, it does seem like he got one of the worst starting locations.

Alaska bitch being watched by a big cat in the dark, still decides to sleep out in the open on the beach. M'kay, lady.

Old dude building a raft, catching fish, good for him. He deserved that after taking a risk with that project.

Dave is struggling, so nice that he got some caviar with his fish.

Nothing new from marine biologist chick, which makes me wonder how long she will last. That would be surprising.

Every time I see that hippie chick's camp I yell at the TV: "WHAT ARE YOU EATING?!"

In the past, the contestants that spend a lot of time on shelter before getting steady food drop out quickly.

Fowler is the guy that put his campsite on the side of a mountain? Ya. He's going home.

That chick getting watched by the cat. How dumb can you get?

Every time one of these guys has a mental break and taps out they rationalize the crap out of it.

Just for once, I want one of them to nut up and take the L.

Glad that annoying bastard is gone.

******SPOILER ALERT********

Only 5 left and 3 of them are women!!!

Callie definitely has the best attitude of them all. The others are trying to survive, Callie is just going about her daily life. She also has a good sense of humor.

Survival TV Show: Alone

Too bad the Canadian guy Greg dropped out. He had a good sense of humor. In episode five when he builds the raft and launches it into the lake it's kind of unsteady, says "Well we're sailing. Yeeehah. A fast moving trout might flip it over." I about lost my shit hahah.

I think Callie might win. She is pretty tough dealing with those spider bites. Not gonna lie they looked nasty. Like Malone said though, what the hell is she eating?

If Dave lucks out and gets a boar he could be in the game. He has the best chance since he's got the bow and arrow with him. Looks like a freakin holocaust victim right now however skinny as fuck.

Fowler and the other two chicks have no chance.

Yeah I think Callie is going to take it. She seems like the most at ease. Plus she's a funny girl.

SPOILER

Callie drops out? didn't really see that coming. Maybe the positivity stuff was just for the camera and she was struggling pretty hard.

When Dave showed he has a stock pile of 30 fish fillets saved up I wanted to scream at him through the TV like holy shit eat something man! You're starving! 200 calories every 2 days is not going to cut it at this point.
