TanTan: chinese tinder?

Sup guys,

I'm currently experimenting with TanTan in Shenzhen. So far I have had the app since the 16th and have about 35 likes from girls of varying quality.

On my profile it says I've been liked 98 times, so 98 potential likes in a 10 day period is pretty damn good in my book.

I imagine that a lot of the tinder thread tactics would work when texting chicks, but there is one small problem: the motherfuckin' language barrier. A lot of chicks are messaging me first, but when they realize I don't speak Chinese they're out. I've gotten a few of the girls to convert to weixin for faster texting and setting up plans, but I'm still working out the kinks on this app.

This app seems like it could be killer once one has calibrated to the way women are seduced in this area.

Anyone cracked the Tantan code and want to share strategies and other things?

I will be checking my PMs weekly, so you can catch me there. I will not be posting.

Fortis,

I'm unsure just how much relevance my advice will have, but I'll tell you what I can nonetheless, and try to gear it towards a real foreigner.

I'm of Chinese descent, which actually means that my pro BlurredSevens inspired photos and bio actually net me a ton of likes, makes me realize what being solid on Tinder must feel like [Image: confused.gif] I've scoped out the competition; it's a whole lot of dudes with what they think are deep and soulful grimaces in tight V-necks or muscle shirts taking selfies and applying blur or shade filters. Then there's me overlooking a city in my suit with pocket square and watch.

My entire profile is in English, but I think it's my looks that keep me in the running. That, and the 'places I've been' is loaded with both European places (which Chinese chicks obsess over) and Chinese cities. I would double down on showing you've been around the block in China. All these categories for you to put shit down that are not available in Tinder are basically to establish comfort.

Use google translate to put these places in Chinese, put your current location and occupation in Chinese as well. Stick to a simpler bio, probably don't need the super snark Western Tinder bio unless you want to game the expats and study abroad students.

Establish a routine through Google translate and have one of your students proofread it, probably the player kid you mentioned in the Shenzhen thread. Start with a light opener, then maybe two more exchanges, then the conversion to weixin. Take the temperature of the girl/room on this one, but you might want to qualify that you're learning Chinese as much as possible. Chinese people find it fascinating and oddly endearing when they see a foreigner trying so hard to learn a such a stupidly tough language.

Would like to hear how it goes for you. PM me if you have any other questions/comments.

Thanks for the advice. Of course, some things probably won't apply, given that we're two difference races, but I can definitely co-sign on the fact that whenever I tell a Chinese person (male or female) that I'm studying mandarin they really appreciate it. Like, I've seen guys go from being wary of me to totally wanting to get my weixin and cell because I can name the three Kingdoms (wu, wei, shu lozlozlozlzolzolzoz) and name the leaders and such.

I need to get some photos taken asap! I actually know a photographer or two in shenzhen, so I'm going to get on that. Most of my photos are solid, but I think blurredsevens took the photo thing to another level.

Good idea on asking the player kid to proofread some of my lines. I actually have a few more funny stories involving him that I'll share at some point.

I used Tantan for awhile and its really easy for what you are trying to do. Unfortunately, I stopped day gaming cause Tantan was just like clockwork so I had to delete it. Always texted with the matches in Chinese though. You might want to set up a template for a quick conversation and then steer it over to wechat so you can use the translation function.

Fortis, you will probably get a lot more help if you have this moved to the Travel forum. I think quite a few of the China guys use it, but they probably don't frequent the Game forum as much.

Bump, I'm guessing a few dozen matches and converted about 1/3 to wechats, but the girls seem really hesitant to meet up. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. No language barrier. Maybe need to banter a bit more.

Hmm, Suits talks a lot about screening out timewasters. I think a lot of women, for the most part, aren't down to meet up. They just want to talk to a foreigner and learn english without outright saying it.

I push for a meet up within a couple of days. So far, I have only converted one to a meet up, ha. I have had better luck with wechat people nearby.

It's definitely not fake. She was familiar with TJ local sites. Does she look worse in person? Probably, they always do....

I've banged many girls off of this app and the most fake thing I've encountered has been girls trying to sell me shit off of their WeChat. One girl tried to sell me penis enlargement pills and some other Chinese medicine thing that supposedly works like Viagra.

When I say real, I mean of course straight and legit. I've never seen a chinese chick go on a chat messenger and blurt out "let's ONS!" as her opening words to a complete stranger, or at any point for that matter.

It's either a guy or a scammer.

Not sure, this girl isn't really that hot and we talked before for a couple of days on and off.

I've had girls ask for a ONS before - it's about as rare as it is having an American girl ask me, but it happens. I do well on this app in China but I have the looks the Chinitas desire, particularly skin that is way too pale at the moment.

I'm going to China soon, spoofed my GPS to the provincial city where I'll be staying and got on Tantan a couple of weeks ago. So far 908 like me and the matches are probably approaching 200. I am also experiencing severe communication problems. For some reason I am not able to write to girls I have matched with (every time I try, it stops responding - is this normal?). Some of the girls write me, but nobody knows English. I can't be bothered to have lame Google-translate convos when I'm not even on the ground yet.

I have also noticed that the overwhelming majority of the girls are really young. Not an problem per se, but I find the extremely childish poses and the drawn-on whiskers and mustaches somewhat disturbing. Along with the black, "big eye" contacts everyone is wearing I feel like a pedophile in a horror movie. Am I ever going to be able to love these weirdos like I do my bubble-butt Africans?

Ha, if you're looking for maturity, then I think you're in the wrong country. You have to keep in mind that many of the girls (and guys) here have no older or younger siblings, so they can be VERY self-centered and childish. Even if they're poor they're used to being catered to by their families and everything because of the one child policy.

The number # 1 complaint I hear about young people in china is that they're spoiled to death!

The average age in Shenzhen is 13, so on tantan most of the girls are 17-18. It does feel weird at first. I actually upped the minimum age on my account. I simply hate interacting with girls under 20. I find that 90% of them are trying to waste my time.

I feel like i'm talking to a western 13 year old when I'm chatting with a chinese 18 year old. I cannot stand it. Is this every 18 year old? Of course not, but I found that most interactions with the younger girls in china are simply unbearable. Perhaps you will do better than I did.

if you're looking to slay 18 year olds, I suggest brushing up on your clown game and swiping right on tantan. Well, actually, if you're going to slay chinese girls I would say clown game is pretty much 100% necessary. This has been confirmed by quite a few china veterans, so I'm not fucking with you.

Fortis, don't be afraid to trot out whatever Chinese you know at these girls if these girls want Chinese. Your whereabouts say Shenzhen so I presume you know something; you may know more than you think.

Chinese grammar is simple and forgiving, relative to English.

A lot of young Chinese/Taiwanese/Hong Kong etc. people get twisted with homophones in text messages due to the smartphone era, so don't let that stop you either.

You can use it outside China by downloading fake GPS and setting your location to whatever city in China you are interested in.

I downloaded it here in Europe from google playstore, no problem. The app works best in Greater China, obviously. But you can use it anywhere in the world, just don´t expect to have a lot or any success in places without large Chinese communities. WeChat and its lookaround function are better suited for that.

Akwesi, you should be able to write with any girl you match with, just like with other apps like Tinder. Many girls also don´t reply if you don´t start with a message in Chinese, they either don´t speak English, are too afraid to use it or just don´t want to bother. There´s also a noticeable amount of fake profiles. Also, if you can´t speak Chinese you might not notice that there are quite a few prostitutes looking for customers on TanTan. If a girl´s pics are suspiciously hot, not in high resolution and/or her profile is empty except for the zodiac, there´s a high probability that it´s fake or a hooker. Similar to WeChat, some also use it for e-commerce.

Concerning the childish attitude of most girls, as Fortis said, you are in the wrong country. As a simple rule, always deduct about 10 years from a Mainland Chinese girl´s age to get her mental/Western age. You need to learn how to screen for the more westernized, mature and slutty ones if you don´t want to waste your time. That takes some time to learn though, and in my opinion requires practical experience on the ground. It is however not difficult once you get it.

I keep coming across guys who tell me how they're doing terrible with Tantan whereas it's been really really good for me. I was thinking briefly of putting together some sort of dedicated guide but realized that there's really nothing I am doing differently in particular or could explain, except that I am speaking Chinese all the time. I think if you can't speak Chinese you might as well forget about using it.

swuglyfe made some good points RE: photos and making use of the profile info, but from my experience most girls won't even read your profile as many act surprised that I can speak Chinese or ask me where I am from even though this is all written in my profile, in Chinese.

The other things I like about Tantan are things that Tinder in its constantly (d)evolving user experience already dropped: "Last online" and the Moments feature which in Tantan is more like Wechat i.e. permanent. Makes it easy to warm up old leads. I like taking the ol' "airport gate with destination name screen" picture, combine it with a selfie and get at least 1-2 girls from that place messaging me once their see it in their feed.

Generally the quality on Tantan can be amazingly high. There are plenty of beautiful girls that only use it for validation and/or to add potential customers for their Wechat hustle. You can still get those girls though if white and fluent in Chinese. There are also a lot of pretty girls that will download it, use it for a couple days and then never again. It stings when you see these gorgeous girls and then it's "Last online - 2 months ago". So just go for the Wechat add after a little while. I should do that more often but there's just too many girls.

Then you still have to get them out. This seems to be the biggest problem for a lot of guys. Make sure you have a great Wechat profile with lots of posts of you traveling, pictures with other friends etc, and text in both English and Chinese. Make sure the girls have lots of regular pictures as well, including some with friends and family and a post history that stretches back at least a couple months. Prostitutes and fakes won't have those.

Don't expect to be able to ask 8s to come to your hotel room straight away or whatever shit you guys are able to pull in SEA. This is China. Stuff like elcid's screenshot up there would actually raise all sorts of red flags for me. For me, it usually takes me 2 dates on average. Girls will ask you how long you are staying and what you're doing. If it's a short trip, you can use this fact to your advantage, so I do tell them that it's only a couple days this time, so you should really the , baby, but I would also say "I am thinking of moving here or staying longer in the near future and wanna check it out first". This seems like the perfect compromise to me and encourages them to later bring you to cool places to impress you.

Remember that girls get intense pressure to get married as soon as they're 23+. This makes it easier in some cases, harder in others. Overall I wouldn't stress it too much. Some girls will definitely not bang you because of this. However, hot girls in China usually have hot friends so you can still work them that way. If it's clear I won't be able to bang a particularly hot girl I will (time permitting) try to go out with her and some of her friends (KTV or clubs or whatever) - girls love to introduce you and show you off to their friends and their city no matter what - and see what comes up. I did this with a TV anchor from Chengdu who did tell me that she can't get involved with a foreigner because of her public profile but she was more than happy to hook me up with her friend. Do use this opportunity to also befriend guys. This is honestly one of the best ways to meet cool Chinese guys and establish genuine friendships; the table dudes that fill up any whitey rolling into the local clubs with champagne are obviously not gonna see you more than a white monkey to briefly parade about in order to gain face.

What else...treat the girls you meet well. Realize you are taking advantage of a golden window in time where anti-foreigner sentiment in China hasn't yet hit the lows of Taiwan or Korea (despite Xi's recent efforts), where even really hot girls use Tantan because it doesn't (yet) have the trash reputation of something like Momo, Skout etc. and because most foreigners are clueless about how to really make the most of it other than Google translating "Come to my apartment now".
