Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina could all lay a claim to that title. Mexico for it's media/culture and proximity to the USA, Brazil for it's economic/industrial prowess, and Argentina for it's culture and exemplary status as a stable nation.

Honorable mentions to Chile and Uruguay, who also are modern, first world countries with middle classes.

Argentina?

Stable?

Not their economy.

Maybe you are confusing Argentina with Chile.

Chile is far more stable but their culture is nothing special.

The "champion" of Latin america has to be Mexico or Brazil due to sheer size, culture, military, political and regional power with a slight edge given to Brazil in my opinion. Politically Brazil's reach extends far into central america as demonstrated in their intervention in Honduras a few years ago.

Mexico? most of the places with the nicer looking girls are not safe , lot of drug cartels and thugs who "own" the hottest women.

Mexico is very corrupt country, chance you are going to snap a 9 or 10 are slim. Mexico by no means compare to colombia or venezuela.. or even Argentina.

I hear the women are pretty bad, but Chile by far the best in terms of economy and stability. A Chilean passport is one of the best in the world right now.

I found Chilean women to be incredibly sexy.

The top tier can be good but that's true everywhere.

The vast majority of chilean women though fall below the Latin American average in looks and attitude. Then add on those horrible accents and a high level of obesity.

Nice people though.

I know this is just a stereotype, but from dealing with people from all regions of Latin America every single day, I can easily say that Chileans as a whole are the most dishonest, and that's really saying something. I agree about the ugly part, although I met a really quality Chilean during my last Miami trip.

Economically and politically, Brazil dominates the region but Argentina and Uruguay dominate Latin America culturally-speaking. While those who say we're always trying to prove our 'European-ness' might be exaggerating they're not far-off'; Argentina and Uruguay are the most European countries followed closely by Brazil and Chile.

Oh yes, I'm so privileged you literally can't even.

I think you should establish yourself as a poster before pulling out statements like these don't you think?

Mexico is a wonderful country and none of what you said is true except in the most extreme sense. Mexico is easily the safest country I have experienced in Latin America, but I am not walking around the streets of Ciudad Juarez either.

Mexican women are fantastic to be around and it is easily possible to pull dimes here. I see dimes walking around every day here in DF and I am sure anyone on this board would gladly fuck my Mexican girlfriend.

Which country do you consider the champion of Latin America?

After traveling through several Latin American countries I come to the following conclusions:

All of the countries that I have traveled and lived are Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Colombia. All of them seemingly have an egomania/inferiority complex.

Chileans think they are superior to all Latin American countries but then complain that Mexicans, Argentinians, Brazilians think they are all hot shit. This belief in superiority is rather recent as China was buying a lot of copper from them which, in turn, led to unprecedented economic prosperity. It has a heavy German influence both culturally and politically which reveals itself in low corruption rankings. It's also a pretty safe country especially in contrast to Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico. However, they still have a chip on their shoulder, not unjustifiably, that the US has played such a huge role in Chile's modern history with Pinochet.

Argentinians think they are the best. Part of this is justified by the fact that Argentina was one of the wealthiest and most sophisticated countries in the world at one point. However, in modern times, it is used as a case study of how countries that were once great can go to shit economically. Argentina relies on its racial makeup being mostly of Italian, French, Spanish stock which is why they think they are superior to the mestizo and Indians that populate the rest of the continent. Economically, they know they don't have shit anymore and that China owns there asses and that Brazil has been whooping their asses financially.

Colombians have pretty much accepted the fact that they are known for cocaine , even though most of it comes from Panama and Bolivia now. I don't really think that Colombia has a lot of natural resources and that any prosperity comes as a byproduct of having a decent relationship with the US for geopolitical purposes. I like Colombians as they are probably the most humble of all of the Latin American peoples that I have met.

Mexicans. I went to a boarding school with the children of elite Mexican families (old Spanish aristocratic) and have visited Mexico to party with them and had the time of my life and rubbed elbows with very powerful people in that country.

I have also lived in Los Angeles and visited poor areas of Mexico and have first hand knowledge of how 99.99 percent of Mexicans live and think.

Mexico has a lot going for it due to the fact that it's success is directly tied to that of the US. In terms of girls, the girls that I partied with while with the elite Mexicans are by far the best looking women I have partied with. Think of the hot girls from Mexico's Next Top Model hot. Telenovela hot. These girls in all likelihood would not have given me second thought until they saw my group of Mexican friends.

The regular Mexican girls are also usually pretty hot on average. Ok, I'm digressing here.

Here is my order:

Women:
Colombia
Mexico
Argentina
Chile

On people in general:
Colombia
Mexico
Argentina
Chile

Economically:
Mexico
Chile
Argentina
Colombia

In terms of the projection and recognition of culture on a global scale:
Mexico
Argentina
Colombia
Chile

I've visited all four of those countries and lived in one and can't agree with really anything that is in those lists you compiled at the end of your post. Nobody I have ever met would put Mexican women ahead of Argentine. The economy of Mexico, although probably a bigger economy overall due to the size of the population and the size of the country geographically, is in no way per capita better than all of the other three. If you give Colombian people in general the top spot, then you really need to spend more time there. I would put them ahead of Chileans. I'll give you that.

Edit: The part about projection and recognition of culture on a global scale is also accurate. You may have added that after your original post, because I don't remember seeing it.

Everyone raves about Argentine women. Sure many are hot but when I was there I was disappointed. I find a much higher proportion of top shelf talent in Mexico.

Regarding economy. In the long run Mexico will be a major power player. Once it gets its drug cartels under control, it will start booming in terms of per capita GDP.

Which country do you consider the champion of Latin America?

According to this article, economically they have Brazil number one, Mexico number two and Argentina number three.

Quote:Quote:

1. Brazil

With an astonishing 198.7 million people living in the country and a landmass of 8,515,767 km², Brazil is by far the largest country on our list, giving them a significant advantage when it comes to raising cash.

The country is often given as the example of the speed at which Latin American economies are developing and the changes the region has under gone in more recent times. As with many nations, natural resources are major business in Brazil: The country is second after Venezuela for oil exports in the region and additionally extracts, gas, iron ore and aluminium. Extracted materials now account for 30% of all exports from the country. On top of this, the fertile Amazon basin has controversially been providing timber and agricultural resources on a phenomenal level. Conservationists warn that continued deforestation will endanger plant and animal life as well as the indigenous tribes who still live deep within the Amazon itself.

At the other end of this spectrum of the population are the massive cities such as Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo which drive urban growth. With the World Cup being held in Brazil later this year, as well as the Olympic Games in 2016, the country is on the rise, and the Olympics is set to boost Brazil's GDP through the profitable tourism sector.

2. Mexico

With over a trillion dollars to their GDP, you can see that Mexico-and of course our coveted number one spot- are well and truly ahead of the pack when it comes to money. With a population of 120.8 million however, that’s hardly surprising. Alongside this massive population, Mexico’s lush coastlines and superior infrastructure countries contribute to its wealth.

As we all know however, Mexico and the Gulf surrounding it are loaded with oil - or at least they were. Much of Mexico’s financial growth and development has been attributed to their natural resources but the view has been expressed that all good things must come to an end. There's the risk that Mexico’s oil fields may begin to run dry.

Alongside this are the notorious problems around drug trafficking and cartels in the country which have seen violence explode into major cities and left politics and the police struggling to keep up. The current president, Enrique Peña Nieto, has seen his ratings plummet as controversy continues with the cartels.

3. Argentina

An anomaly in many senses in the Latin American region, Argentina's European heritage influences the country's culture. Interestingly too, Argentina has managed to build up it’s $475 billion GDP without any major mining industry. The port capital of Buenos Aires is a wealthy and vital trade port for the south western hemisphere while agriculture, food processing and banking are major industries.

The country’s history is a patchy one however, with military juntas and dictatorships defining much of the last century: the Guerra Sucia - or Dirty War - is the darkest moment for Argentina, that to this day continues to haunt social and political life. Over 10,000 people disappeared during the Dirty War and the military dictatorship that followed. Argentina’s loss of the Falklands War ended the period of terror for the country. Today’s president, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, has re-ignited the disputed Falklands Territory discussion, which are officially owned by the United Kingdom. She is also the wife of former President, Néstor Kirchner.

Interestingly they have Venezuela number 4 due to its vast oil reserves.

Culturally, well that depends on how you look at it. Do you value more pre-historic cultures like the Mayans, Incas and Aztecs where its prevalent in Mexico and Peru or more of a European type culture in places like Argentina and Uruguay?

There has always been this intense rivalry between Mexicans and Argentinians about who has the better "culture" or who has the better economy, excluding Brazil because they speak Portuguese. Both chauvinistic countries trashing each other on the internet. The whole "European vs. Mestizo" thing and vice-versa.

Women? Well I have only been to Mexico, Argentina, and Cuba and saw many Brazilian girls in Argentina as well. From those countries I would give Brazil the edge because of the killer bodies and just how extremely nice the girls were. Argentinian girls were like dolls but extremely snobbish. I love the Mexican girl face, in my opinion one of the best in Latin America in terms of nice faces and prettiness. Cuba also had girls with killer bodies but I don't know I just didn't feel them as well as the other ones. Brazil gets the edge for me.

The best quality is in monterrey and northern mexico in general, places like durango, etc... DF has very low quality too much overweight and native american blood, lot of cholo types, I have been many times to mexico myself, never returned impressed from there. Even the best places of Mexico do not compare to what Colombia, Venezuela or Argentina have to offer. Mexico aint bad for avalaibility though

Americas wrote "In fact, in as little as 10-20 years or so Chile might very well be a first world country in terms of GDP per capita."

Actually, I recall that the OECD has already classed Chile as "first world." It may only be a toehold there (given the ups-and-downs of the last recession), but the door is getting knocked on.

Which country do you consider the champion of Latin America?

It is pretty interesting to look at the following emerging markets list:

http://www.bloomberg.com/visual-data/bes...-countries

Especially Chile and Peru are doing pretty well. Colombia's economy is also growing every year. If they could get some real peace - I'm sure that their economy would rocket.

Well Brazil is still doing fine. They got their problems, but compared to Argentina it's nothing...

But anyway - It's interesting, but much more important is still the quality of girls [Image: wink.gif]
