Musicians, or any performer on stage, are very conscious of their personal space. You don't cross that line. Remember, they do this for a living.

When someone tries to attention-whore, or get on stage with them, they feel directly and personally threatened. He would have seen anyone trying to mount the stage as a direct threat. Not only that, but fans are notoriously unpredictable. Some of them are totally crazy.

I think his reaction is understandable in these circumstances.

I must have been at least 10 years old the last time I heard of this man. Didn't know he was still alive.

He's actually a popular low-budget hit at colleges!!! you can get him on the cheap, like $500 IIRC.

Afroman played at my college on 4/20 a couple years back, and he brought a double headed guitar and played both sides of the guitar. He passed around a couple of joints after he played, but during the show when someone in the front offered him a J, he knocked it out of the guys hand.

He's not a bad guitarist, either. Definitely washed up though.

Sometimes you can really startle a guy in the zone by touching them like that, behind their back without them expecting anything like that. It's risky sometimes bumping into a old war vet like that. Musicians are weird people and emotional enough to kick someone's ass that violates them on stage. Lots of them are sick of it when they rant on social media or the press. If you look at even the last 10 years, rock musicians are not the only ones beating people up or slamming/throwing assholes off the stage. He over reacted, but that's obvious. I bet anyone high in there immediately lost that high. [Image: lol.gif]

Lol at the thirsty white knight that runs after her to make sure she is okay.
Seems like she was turned on by that slap too.

EDIT: The guy is getting paid and is under stress to perform correctly.

Why would a chick be dumb enough to disturb a musician that has been preforming for so long by grinding on him/attention whoring , what an idiot, serves her right.

She should show some respect and not attention whore or grind on him.

good thing he put her in her place and thought her a lesson.

I think that shit is way out of line. Girl is essentially a paying customer, sure she needs to back the fuck off, but decking her like that? Pretty cold.

It's not like she was assaulting him or anything. Just looked like a drunk, attention-whoring girl trying to have some fun.

Afroman's album The Good Times was my go to music before a fraternity party or a night out. <<< Put this introvert in the right frame of mind for a good night.

I listened to it again not long ago and it holds up well. Everyone thinks of the "Because I got High"-song, but there were some other good tracks. Palmdale, referenced above, is one of them. She Won't Let Me Fuck, Hush, and Mississippi were good too.

I'd suggest that the unfamiliar give some of these tracks a listen via youtube and, if you like it, buy it on iTunes. I tried to link the youtube upload of the album but it's scrambled.

Saw this post on Reddit a couple of days ago(I still hate that site) and a reply by someone who seems to actually be in the entertainment business because he dropped some gems:

"ITT people don't know why fans getting on stage is a bad thing.(but of course, this is reddit, people think they know everything about everything.)

Look people, someone getting on stage during a concert is a BIG BIG BIIIGG no no. It's the PRIME safety issue that many each event organizer deals with in terms of security, it is EXTREMELY Dangerous for people to be up on stage, The artist doesn't know who or why they're up there, and it's understandably scary.

Basically if fans are getting up on stage (without the artist inviting them there, and even THEN it's something pretty damn frowned upon) Then that's it as an event organizer, you're done. It means your security is so bad that any psycho fan can just come up and kill/seriously injure the artist.

I think what Afroman did was justified and didn't warrant an arrest, but I doubt the cops care about that.

Even IF he's super cool to hang out with, someone getting up on stage during an artists act is BAD. An artist should have every right to defend himself/herself if they feel threatened.

For more information read: "This business of concert promotion and touring" by Ray D Waddell(Executive Director of Content and programming, touring and Live Entertainment at Billboard Information group), and Jake Berry(owner of Production Alliance)
They talk about this and other security issues.

Now some people think "no one's gonna try to kill Afroman, come on dude"

If a fan was crazy enough to kill JOHN LENNON of all people, because of a short comment that Lennon said, What makes you think afroman is any different? How many other artists may have said some things that people don't like?

Hell, just mentioning the name Justin Beiber makes some people's blood boil, and he's just kid pop singer!

Security is important, and when a failure that large happens The artists has every right to make sure he doesn't end up 6 feet under."

Basically this guy knows what he's talking about as having a huge security breech like that is extremely dangerous. I bet you 100% MULTIPLE people got fired at that venue.

Reddit is funny though, this guy spits some truth and is an obvious insider in the industry and people still try and shout him down because he "hit a girl" "she was just dancing" blah blah blah. Made me chuckle, but for some reason that post was upvoted to the top so I saw that first and saved it lol.

Also I'm pretty sure if that were a guy no one would be mad, and he'd probably wouldn't have been arrested.

1) Does it make it less wrong to get on stage if she is a paying customer?
2) Would you write the same post if it was a guy who got slapped?
3) Do you think a drunk fan on stage poses no threat to the musician?

If everyone wondered whether he would behave the same towards a man whenever a female is involved in a story posted in this subforum, then the debates here would last way less.

Thanks for the input mate. Reddit disgusts me. I have to actively avoid reading the discussions there because having my blood boil isn't good for my health, lol.

I have seen threads on Reddit get derailed by someone (most likely a man), making a brand new account, opens their first post with "I'm a girl, and....." and having the other poster get downvoted and their argument get squashed.

4) Is it okay for a bouncer or security to clothesline a stage rusher, but not the musician trying to defend him/herself?

His explanation makes alot of sense. He thought he saw the two women leave the stage and that heckler was harassing him with hateful talk or whatever, and when he got bumped from behind like that, he was caught off guard. He also said he was high too. You reason I believe him is because when you see him swing that punch, he started swinging before his head even turned around to see who it was.

Being a paying customer doesn't give you license to interfere with the other party providing you with the paid-for service.

By an extension of this logic if I eat a restaurant does that give me carte blanche to go into the kitchen and start taking with the chef?

But I agree that the punch was unnecesary...I'd mushed her in the face or had security take her away.
