I use baking soda as deodorant and it works great although it sometimes acts as an irritant, but I think that may be due to me being a little too rough with the wash cloth.

I've also stopped using soap. I just rub down my skin with a wash cloth and warm to hot water. First few days my pits still had an odour, but now I cannot smell anything, even at the end of the day. My face also produces significantly less oil than it used to, and I was using quite a mild soap beforehand.

I still need to try replacing shampoo, but I have quite long hair and there isn't a shower where I'm living at the minute, so I only have a bath to work with.

I did have some irritation like Marmite but I halved the amount I was using and I've had no issues since.

I tried the no-shampoo with no luck, instead I opted for a completely salt and sulphate free shampoo. My hair quality has improved every week since the switch.

I haven't used the Arm & Hammer Deodorant.

Yeah you can, you apply it while your armpits are still damp.

Just make sure to rub it in properly, I've had powder falling out my sleeves when stretching.

I used to use baking soda and then switched to arm and hammer deodorant as it is more handy when travelling. Works great, but to be fair I never suffered from profuse sweating tbh.

10 drops essential oil

Keep in a closed container. I've been using this for two weeks now and I'm pleased with how well it works.

I’m bumping this thread for a related question.

First, I will comment that I make my own deodorant, very similar to what Crisp described above with almost the same proportions. For the essential oil I like something citrusy. I even put it in reusable deodorant containers. For the summer, I’m going to experiment by adding beeswax to help keep it solid. Coconut oil has a low melt point, I think.

My question related to this is whether anyone has experimented with shaving their armpits. If so, does this have a positive or negative impact on sweating, odor, shirt stains, etc.?

Baking soda works like a charm and it’s like 75¢. Spending money on deodorant with a bunch of bullshit chemicals in it is for normies. Magnesium oil also works pretty well but irritated my pits.

Agreed on baking soda. It’s a key ingredient in my homemade deodorant. I think it neutralizes the odors. I’m also a big fan of Castile soap as an all purpose bathing soap.

Any guys shaving or trimming their pit hair and does this help with odor/sweating?

I switched to the unscented Arm and Hammer deodorant, since the powder got messy and would irritate my skin after using it for a few days in a row. Works just as good.

-Arm and Hammer Unscented stick deodorant
-Trim armpit hair with a #1 guard on Wahl hair clippers
-Avoid caffeine

Works for me. The last part about caffeine is something weird I noticed. When drinking too much caffeine I would sometimes notice I smelled a bit like a skunk. Researching this, it seems like this is actually some type of smell/pheromone released along with adrenaline. The actual gland a skunk uses to spray is a modified sweat gland after all. Anyone else notice this?

I noticed sweating more after drinking coffee. Sucks for me since I am addicted to it.

I’m going to try trimming armpit hair now that the weather is getting warmer. I noticed that girls like a little hair so I won’t go totally clean.

Magnesium oil spray against odor (magnesium can sting but it generally stops if you're not deficient, so taking additional magnesium supplement or using the oil liberally elsewhere on the body can counter this. It's presumably a very important mineral for the body anyway).
Nothing seems to work even remotely effectively for me to reduce the amount of sweating.
I've tried assorted silver and aluminum based deodorants and crystals in past summers but aside from supposedly being supposedly unhealthy they at the very most reduce sweat volume by 10-20%, and often it feels like it's doing nothing.

I tried baking soda on a Thailand vacation. It just turned into a disgusting paste.

So now I basically ignore sweat volume - it's a lost cause in the summer, but at least my lifestyle and work mean I can wear casual clothes, including shorts and t-shirts, pretty much all the time - and stick to the magnesium and trimmed armpit hair for the smell. And white and black shirts to try to camouflage stains.
Sucks that spontaneous "come home and jump into bed" sex is pretty much out of the question in the summer. Unless I've been sitting in an air conditioned room since my last shower, I'm gonna need another one.

Washing soda is sodium carbonate. Baking soad is sodium bicarbonate.
Washing soda is highly alkaline and will irritate or burn skin. Don't put it on your pits!
For those who have experienced irritation with baking soda, I have found that some brands are more powdery and others are grainy like fine sand. The 'softer' powdery variety causes less irritation because you're not exfoliating your pits as you apply it.

I had baking soda irritate my pits, but I have somewhat sensitive skin and was probably using too much. I started using a little less and put some coco oil in my pits at night and that fixed it
