New York Knicks owner and Madison Square Garden chairman James Dolan told a fan to "start rooting for the Nets because the Knicks don't want you" in a contentious email exchange.

In the email, Irving Bierman criticized Dolan over decisions made during his tenure as owner of the Knicks. Dolan responded by telling Bierman to root for the Nets and attacked him personally. An MSG spokesperson confirmed to ESPN.com that the emailed response was written by Dolan.

Bierman's Email

"At one stage I thought that you did a wonderful thing when you acquired EVERYTHING from you dad. However, since then it has been ALL DOWN HILL. Your working with Isaiah Thomas & everything else regarding the Knicks. Brnging [sic] on Phil Jackson was a positive beginning, but lowballing Steve Kerr was a DISGRACE to the knicks. The bottom line is that you merely continued to interfere with the franchise," Irving Bierman wrote in an email addressed to Dolan.

"As a knicks fan for in excess of 60 years, I am utterly embarased [sic] by your dealings with the Knicks. Sell them so their fans can at least look forward to growing them in a positive direction Obviously, money IS NOT THE ONLY THING. You have done a lot of utterly STUPID business things with the franchise. Please NO MORE. Respectfully, Irving Bierman."

Dolan's Response

That was hilarious. That letter reeks of " I don't give a fuck". Well, the Knicks are the worth over 1 billion dollars and they haven't been a playoff contender since Ewing and Starks played so yes, they don't need that one angry fan.

If he really cared about his image, he would've said a subordinate wrote it. Just like the Yankees, years of mediocrity won't stop people from going to the games and buying the merch. This will blow over in a week.

This. Owners NEVER need to speak, ever. This guy talks WAAAY too much to the public to be an owner/CEO of a company, he was already in trouble for making fun of the knicks early in the season.

I don't think the guy realizes that there's a hierarchy he MUST follow:


Putting it in RVF/game terms:

Owner = pimp
manager/coach = bottom bitch
basketball players = hoes
fans the come to the game = johns

A Pimp would NEVER even SEE a "john" much less give him the dignity of answering a hatemail from him. The only time he'd see a john would be if that john was physically assaulting one of his hoes.

Once you break that hierarchy and start putting yourself in roles you don't belong, the team you built falls apart.

Hell, even the mafia knew wtf was going on;

1)Unless you are the Boss' right hand man, you don't even get to TALK to the boss, the Boss gives the right hand man the orders and the rest of the people follow.

Yeah you bring up mark cuban, and yeah he talks a lot too but:

1) he's a billionaire
2)he has presence and power
3) his team is very successful.


If his team wasn't as successful as they are then he really wouldn't be in the spotlight at all. He AT LEAST knows when to speak and when to keep silent

When you want people to listen to you and take you seriously, you have to hit him where it really hurts, their wallets.

Websites, signs, demonstrations, etc. don't mean shit when the money is still rolling in.

Same with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Cleveland Browns, Chicago Cubs, and Washington Redskins. All four teams have loyal-to-a-fault fanbases and ownership is sitting back taking advantage of that loyalty. Why put out a winner when you know the $$$$ is coming no matter what?
