I took a poor girl on a date a couple days ago.. and paid 24 dollars for the bottle of wine we drank.
Technically.. the appetizer was comped cause I got the place on lock.

It was Christmas Eve and I was walking out of the Duane Reade (Drug Store/Grocery Store) with some food. I'm new to the neighborhood but I've seen this beggar (a woman) often sitting outside the store on the sidewalk and I think it was drizzling out.
I walked past her and around the corner because I don't give anything to bums. I don't want to encourage them, but something made me go back and ask her if she wanted one of the cans of mixed nuts I bought.
Her smile and eagerness made me feel both ashamed for walking past earlier and happy and fulfilled that I went back.

A kid that I peripherally know wanted to get some survival gear. So I got a Swiss Army knife, Life Straw and a 3 day pack to them.

There's a handicapped kid that rides the bus to my restaurant and always eats alone, gets spaghetti with meatballs and a mountain dew. The other day I told him it was on me.

I gave a rep point to a newbie poster who supposedly has a 200k job in the oil sands, made 500k in affiliate marketing gig, and has RE investments pulling in 150k in passive income in an effort to encourage him to post datasheets on his success.
I got trolled...

No good deed goes unpunished. Help only those who actively seek your assistance (and are worthwhile). Harsh, but true.

I got my parents some books to help them with their finances and tried to explain compound interest to them while also suggesting that if they spent 1500 for a package deal on brand new kitchen appliances (normally 1000 more) it would raise the value of their home and they could renot it out for more money while they live in their dream retirement location.
they said "well get the appliances in a few months once we can pull more money out of our rrsps it's not like you can eat investments"
this is the reason at my young age I have more money in my bank than them. If they didn't own their house and get 500k inheritance they'd be fucked.

I crashed at a friend's house after a night of partying, woke up the next day and gave another guest a ride to the train station on my way home. Seemed like the gentlemenly thing to do.
I will be checking my PMs weekly, so you can catch me there. I will not be posting.

I signed my Dad up for 4 sessions a week with a personal trainer for 6 months and paid for it.
He's 74, used to be a standout athlete in high school and college...but the past few years after some business and family problems he has turned to drinking too much and let himself go a bit and doesn't exercise at all. I found a good trainer (one of the guy's clients is a 93 year old who came in a year ago with a cane and a hunched back and now doesn't use a cane, has great posture and excellent muscle tone) and have set everything up. He starts on Tuesday. I'm hoping it makes a dramatic difference in the rest of his life.

I try to make sad people happy, wherever I go. Often times, just a smile or a quick comment can wipe the frown off of their face.
- When I see a sad looking person, I give them a compliment -- "I like your shoes", "your jacket is cool", etc.
- I am always smiling at old people. I want them to know that young people are friendly.
- I treat children like gold.
*****
Doing this stuff makes me happy.
Seeing sad people is depressing to me.
I try to be a positive influence on the world around me.

Week before Christmas there was a homeless guy who camps outside the local supermarket.
It was getting cold so I asked him if he wanted an extra blanket. He said yes please so I went home (I live just over the road) and came back with a woollen blanket that I bought in Morocco years ago.
It was a souvenir but I really had no use for it and he did so I gave it to him. He remembered me the next time he saw me and thanked me and told me it was warm.
Figured I should do more so on Christmas day I spent the day volunteering at a local homeless shelter.

Yesterday I helped an acquaintance with his LinkedIn profile. He wanted to write it in English (not his native language) so I went through it with him to prevent errors. He's hoping to get a job in the States, if my efforts help him succeed I would feel pretty good.
Today I helped an older guy, probably late 60s, connect his laptop to the Wi Fi at a cafe. I wonder if I'll be like that when I'm old, asking young people for help with something they think of as basic technology.
I've been making more of an effort this last year or so to help others. It really has helped me grow.

This thread inspired me, just bought coffee for the next 20 customers at a local drive-thru place.

Helped a young girl back in to her wheelchair after she had fallen face-forward, courtesy of the woman (probably her mother) pushing her attempting to negotiate an uneven bit of ground.

Me and a friend saw a young guy sitting drunk in an alley. It's minus 10 degrees Celsius (14 F) outside now. We made sure he got some help.
