I agree you are right that test match cricket is dying, but what I would ask is do you think you it would still be dying if there was no t20 cricket. Personally I think yes it would still be on the decline, just not to the same extent. t20 just fills a need for low attention span modern audiences. People are very busy doing nothing these days.

Well to be honest i think CRICKET the entire sport and not just test matches was dying until T20 came in and saved the day. The reason for this is players see this as a profession. If you look at Test matches nowadays you don't see too many people in the stands right? Sure the cricket is better and you actually have to use technique and tactics, but people aren't watching. On top of that is they don't play enough games in the year of test cricket for it to be an economic success.

With T20 Cricket the players can be well paid and the cricket boards can get a few pennies as well from the thousands of fans and this will trickle back to the test match side. Thats my view... I'm happy for T20 because finally there is money in cricket which allows boards to subsidise test matches. Without T20 I think the entire sport would die because players wouldnt go into it knowing that there is such limited opportunity to actually make money.

Test matches still sell out well against good teams in England. The test team is paid well. As I said everyone is SO busy yet netflix is absolutely popular and people are watching wall to wall boxed sets of Jersey's greatest dog groomer, or whatever.

I'm not sure I fully agree. I know what you are saying, but I think it's hard to say where test match cricket would be without T20. I don't see it as saving the day just hastening the decline.

I do find it very hard to care if the Beavertown Blasters have beaten the Charleston Cockblockers in a t20 "bash" to be honest, but each to his own.

Bump to this thread, especially after the ball tampering saga relating to the Australians.

I always got the feeling Smith was a pushover.

People used to ridicule Michael Clarke for being a lightweight and soft, but he was a lot harder than Smith is.

George Bailey should come in and captain. So many of Australia’s best domestic players - Darren Lehmann, Stuart Law, Martin Love, Michael Bevan - were never given enough chances at Test level.

Bailey has a few good years ahead of him and Tim Paine is too mediocre with the bat. Paine’s keeping skills don’t justify his selection, let alone his captaincy. Matt Wade should keep.

Didn't know we had one of these.

Just popping in to say Smith is the GOAT and will return a better machine than he is.

What the fucking fuck is Tim Paine doing with this Australian side. PC and soft to the max.

I’ve been up a number of nights watching here and the play and manner of the squad suck epic monkey balls.

Despite his faults and often poncey behavior, I would much rather have a guy like Clarke running the side than Paine.

We have had no world-class keeper-batsman since Gilchrist, so Paine is a shoo-in to keep cucking the side further. Wade is an underperformer at international level, as is Nevill - Paine will have no competition.
