Metal is a funny thing. I'm into metal, but for the music. I'm not into the scene or dressing like a metalhead.

Thing about metal, like any worthwhile genre, is its diversity. You can find DIEHARD fans of Rush (I know, prog rock, keep reading), Dream Theater, Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Death, Pantera, Slayer, Tool, Rammstein...You could get fans of all these bands in the same room and you'll find guys either have some common ground or fucking hate each other's guts (especially dudes hating on Dream Theater)

But I think that NOTHING would unite them like knowing that some entitled twats were getting up in arms about their favorite bands conforming to some SJW progressive agenda.

I'm highly looking forward to the backlash.

P.S. Fuck Serj Tankian. I never like SOD

Saw it coming, post from last year:

PSA: Girls do not like metal!

This is what happens when you allow attention seeking women into a scene, it gets them drunk on attention and neurotic females get jealous of the hot ones successfully monopolizing attention thus leading to weird SJW

i used to go to metal shows as a kid.

highlights: went to a slapshot show (that's the band name, guess they like hockey.) dude pulls out 2 knives, army knife type shit, and spinning in circles with a knife in each hand.

hatebreed show, enough said if you know the band, but 6 people left on stretchers.

deicide, dude got thrown off the balcony, solid 30 foot or so drop.

but ya metalheads are against society and all that so it's a bad target, i wouldn't be surprised if a couple (or all) SJW get stripped, raped, and strangled when they try to ban metal.

i've always hated grunge, faggot/pussy music IMO.

they used to always say "nirvana killed hair metal YAY!!"

but hair metal was about having a good time and getting fucked up (AFAIK, born in 87), there's some jams in the genre.
grunge is just depressing. "i'm a loser i love heroin and i wear terrible clothes" is the vibe i get.

Been to three metal concerts this year, the last being Slayer. If you want to extract the feminist concentrate out of any girl you're bangin', stand them up for going to metal shows... just did wonders to end my last relationship, and righteously so.

99% of women hate metal, it's truly one of the last bastions of masculinity.

Metal guys know more than most, the true sluttiness of women. Granted shows are filled with beta and omega men, but the leaders of the scene are as alpha as it gets.

DGAF is the mantra of metal at it's core, this will blow by like a weak fart in a tornado.

Music journalism has been SJW dominated for a while now. I've noticed the vast majority of Punk bands that become critical darlings in the music blogs these days are either all female or have a female vocalist, and are always pushing a feminist message. All male Punk band's have become too threatening.

Good point Deluge, reminds me of this old quote by the original Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth:

I'm strange. It seems all of my close friends are metal heads, except me. I don't really care for metal. Never found it fun to listen to, but every metal head i've ever talked to was by far super cognizant, self aware, and smart. Haven't met a metalhead I couldn't like.

Repeated studies into music show a high correlation between High IQ and Classical and Metal Music.

Meanwhile, the SJW / Journalism set listen to Pop Music or Indie, two much simpler forms of music. The latter seems to be devolving into some kind of feeble, affected folk music - all first position guitar chords with no extended harmonics: basically country music without the chops.

Did you know Beyoncé fans score low on SAT scores?

Now think about the people who are telling Metal fans to 'educate themselves'.

For quite a while I was into Indie music, like early Modest Mouse. This album, and track in particular, was a very potent soundtrack to my life at 19, being a lost dork and going on roadtrips to the pacific northwest:

. It's pretty much a two-chord song but there's texture, and at least in this period of their music they were on a path to inherit the legacy of the Pixies. Then Moon and Antarctica came out and while a good album, it went to shit after that. I was also into The Shins and Built to Spill.

I don't know if I changed or Indie music changed but I couldn't listen to anything after these bands were popular. What's considered indy anyway? I had a passing interest in The XX and Bon Iver but after a one listen it just sounds like a male tampon being squeezed dry, if that makes sense. I've listened to Beirut, Dirty Projectors, Shiny Toy Guns, Arctic Monkeys... I still look up bands that play at Coachella, looking for something new and good. Nothing has grabbed me for a long ass time.

Controversial statement, but I think guitar based music in general has lost relevance. I wouldn't know about Metal (the only Metal band I listen to these days is Parkway Drive) but it's definitely the case with "alternative" rock which has been the dominant form of guitar music for the last 25 years. There's always a place for great songwriting but great songwriting is hard to come by even among very popular artists. Even the recent rock music that's actually sounded fresh has only done so by borrowing heavily from past sounds that have faded out of view and/or from "world music" *cough Arcade Fire cough*. Electronic music has taken over slowly but surely whether it be hipsters listening to Grimes or David Guetta on the Top 40.

Fantastic. People who otherwise could care less about metal are hijacking the genre with gender politics, the same as how people who could care less about games or gaming are supposedly "experts" speaking on behalf of gamers. Both sides invest their full time and energy into things they know nothing about, yet the second publicity dies down, they jump ship to the next non-issue.

This feminism vs. manosphere Twitter/article back-and-forth is just getting to be insane. Two sides with no vested interest or passion for the things they're fighting over. I love the manosphere but if this becomes another Gamergate Alamo stand, I'm tapping out. Save the fake outrage for legitimate issues.

defining what's metal is quite problematic. It's more of a musical style with little if any conceptual or ideological unity.

Gene Simmons was right when he said rock was dead, at least in the mainstream.

When I was growing up, up until the last say 2-3 years, there was always some sort of rock music that was getting mainstream exposure.

Back in the late 90s to early 2000s you had nu-metal, pop punk, and alternative rock bands with their buzz ballads. There was also white boy whine rock bands like Creed and such.

After that there was the retro rock thing with bands like The Strokes and The White Stripes.

Indie rock bands like The Black Keys and Arcade Fire started getting exposure after that.

Now, I can't think of anything sort of rock music that's getting mainstream exposure except for bands that were big back in the day getting by with the nostalgia factor and also with their hardcore fan base. Kids these days aren't listening to bands or instrumental music. Now it's all about R&B, dubstep, EDM, pop, hip hop...basically pretty much any music that doesn't involve someone playing an instrument. When I was a teen other people were talking about going to Ozzfest and other big rock tours, now it's all about these electronic music festivals where girls dress like neo-hippies.

I know little about heavy metal, never listen to it, not my thing.

I was invited to a metal concert a few years ago by a woman I worked with and her husband, everyone was cool to me. In fact, I don't think they cared that I was there, which of course is fine.

Not everything has to cater to everyone (as the ROK aptly states). People should just be able to enjoy what they enjoy. Don't like it, don't watch or listen.

Again, as the ROK article states:

Metal music has always been offensive. That was part of its concept. It is a worldview as much as it is a music genre. So do not act surprised when you find such waspy behaviors like using the word “faggot.” If you do not like it, then find a different community to join. What kind of psychopath seeks out people he hates so that he can join their group? And if you love the music but are repulsed at the people, then just buy the CDs and stay away from the fans.

This whole notion that SJWs need to be accommodated all the time and everywhere is what is offensive.
