It would be interesting to learn about where these old world attitudes and ingrained beliefs originate. Is game in the west a direct result of Protestant work ethic, Adam Smith Individualism, e.g. self improvement/reliance? The beliefs and ideologies that never took hold in the east. This mentality seems antiquated and have been around for millennia.
Taking a big portion of this from a book
The Hidden Europe: What Eastern Europeans Can Teach Us
This is a great book BTW... its a pretty long read.. but backed up with lots of citations and might help a lot of people get a better understanding of eastern europe.
West europeans originally wanted Greece to be part of the "West" so they could use it to grasp onto the civilization aspect.( greeks supposedly creating civilization and extending it into Romans who quote Greece models often.
But.. they spend more than a millennium under byzantine rules and almost 500 years under turkish rule..Pulling them further into the east.
Greeks seem to have always tried to go where the money is.which is why they went with the Eurozone instead of Stalins communism.
Parts of the Greek chapter also talk about how Greeks are extremely critical of others...With their specific history they are afraid to lose their way or life and culture in terms of taking on other ideas.
After traveling to a few eastern european countries..communism seems to have given a reminiscing, defeatist attitude..
They constantly think about the good old days when they built civilization, but nowthat they are stuck in their situation and would rather chill out and just enjoy they day instead of going to work to build things again.
GK showed this idea in a couple of his post...and it was also shown in the Kamaki documentary, where poor greeks would just chill on the beach and bang tourist women instead of going to find jobs..
He also constantly talks about historical point

s that are well in history but don't doesnt explain anything in a current situation in terms of how to fix it

GK and many greeks know they are doing horrible.. but blame everyone else and want to be given money.
The average greek apparently doesnt want to admit it.
Who works hardest
If your mindset tells you that money solves all problems vs hard work "game"
Greek government ask for more money - Spiegel
Its not a stretch to turn to soft p4p(throwing money and gifts at a problem in order to solve it
Greeks most pessmistic in world- Gallop polls
