Booshala will give his opinion based on more recent data, but in my experience:
-Foreigner groupies speak good to excellent English. These are the girls you'll meet on Tinder, IndoCupid, OKc as well as in bars/clubs such as Skye, Immigrant, X2 and Dragonfly.
-Girls who don't hang out with foreigners may or may not speak English, but more of them speak English than, for example, in BKK or Saigon.
-Most taxi drivers speak little or no English.
-Service staff: the more expensive the place the better their English.

In Jakarta, no need to worry about the language barrier.

Yup I wouldn't worry too much about speaking Indonesian, I am actually fluent and in Jakarta it is not really necessary (apart from talking to taxi drivers).

How is the internet connection in Jakarta, is it good enough and no brownouts to do voip and other business related activities? I checked airbnb and most of the flats around thamrin say the connection is quite poor . Can anyone elaborate ?

My information is more than 1 yr old, so things might have improved.

Landline internet in the Thamrin City apt where I stayed was quite poor and dropped from time to time. I also used 3g from Simpati (if i remember correctly). The 3g connection was pretty good in Jakarta. Good enough to use it for Skype calls and tethering.

Check with the host about the landline speed and make sure you get mobile 3g as a backup option.

There are several 4g providers in Jakarta now including XL, IM3, and Telkomsel. I've only had the chance to use XL's 4g and it often tested at 12-15Mbps and as high as 30Mbps if I was in the right area. XL's coverage is pretty good. IM3, if I remember correctly, is much more limited (just around GI and Thamrin). Make sure the network you choose is using a 4g band that is compatible with your phone.

If you have to use 3g though, I'd definitely recommend Telkomsel over the others.

Thanks for the responses. Ye thamrin is quite bad when it comes to internet speed I heard. I was checking online on airbnb and can't help myself but found to get much more quality for your pounds in manila cbd compared to Jakarta. 1 mb is no option really. I woke be banging the wall.
I use olx for Philippines is there any comparable site in Jakarta apart from aitbnb and Craig's list that show some quality condos for local prices ? Would be good to check them out.

They will probably ask for your passport.

Last month, I bought a portable net gear air card while i was in Jakarta and ran 4g off of it. It cost me 300.00, but it also works in other countries with a sim card. I used in Thailand and Manila as well.

The 4g cards were a little hard to find, as 4g is fairly new in Jakarta, and they were actually sold out of the data cards in the area around the Grand Indonesia.

Once I did get set up with the 4g data, I was having a great connection. I had a local girl I met on tinder help me find all of that stuff. It was a little bit of a hassle, but once I got it set up, it was working great! However, I ran out of data - (3.5) was what I purchased. If you do find a place that has 4g data sim cards, you might want to get an extra one. Telkomsel is the company. I think they have it at Grand Indonesia, but like I said, they were sold out of cards when I went there and I had to get my Tinder girl to help me locate another one.

Jakarta is over officially..all thats left are insta whores that ask for money/gifts and girls with bad hygiene and bad skin.
A reason for that is also too many desperate foreigners..
I had a great time between 2015-2017.. now on to the next city Ho Chi Minh is still a better city with hotter girls

Currently pipelining for JKT bang mish.

Seems that after a few hours of swiping I have a dozen or so girls ready to come straight over. I was of course aggressively screening. I dropped the aggression level slightly and found most girls were willing to meet for one drink near my apartment with no work whatsoever, some put up a token resistance but within 10-15 messages were ready to meet.

I am used to gaming in Australia and Central/Eastern Europe where Tinder is basically pointless for me.

How have people gone with pipelining like this in JKT?

^ When I visited Jakarta in 2017 I also pipelined on tinder. It was the first time I had gone overseas with the intention to game, so I started pipelining a bit too far in advance (like 3 months or something). The result was that I had hundreds of tinder matches, a lot of WhatsApp numbers, and kept receiving a huge number of 'hi' and 'how are u' type messages for a long while, which was a bit annoying (I tried to be polite, but I had to ignore quite a lot of them eventually). Ended up getting a satisfactory number of bangs (4) given that I spent the majority of my time there with two of them and I wasn't aiming to get large numbers. All of these were from online - I did no day game and I only went to nightlife venues to meet up with girls I had already talked to. I would give the following two pieces of advice:

- there's no need to pipeline more than 1-2 weeks in advance. It's best to do it close to the time of your trip so that you waste less time and so that the girls you chat with will still most likely be interested by the time you arrive.

- there's no need to be aggressive or direct over text. If they come to your apartment there's a very good chance you'll get the bang. Being direct might cost you bangs - my observation has been that Asian girls in general don't like to think of themselves as sluts or at least verbally admit their sexual intentions and prefer to pretend that they were spontaneously seduced. Nice guy game is sufficient in Indonesia, just being polite works (which I personally find very refreshing, coming from a culture where 'nice guys' are essentially viewed as asexual).
