What is your collection?

Not really a tangible collection but a guy that used to frequent my business had a goal to visit 100 countries. He recently accomplished it. With all the travelers on here wondering if anyone had a similar goal?

I think theres some association or club you join once youve done it. This was an older guy so did it over a lifetime bit still cool. I personally think he kinda rushed it towards the end he was hitting like 4 countries in a week on his last few trips just for the sake of doing it kinda at the cost of being able to enjoy a few bit thought that was a cool goal and collection to have.

Since I'm an old fuck, I've had time to accumulate more (as the late George Carlin once called it) "stuff". My principal collection is comprised of musical instruments and recording gear - I'm definitely a borderline hoarder in my insistence that I have ALL instruments available in my project studio. The secondary pile 'o gear is my photography rig (both Canon & Nikon) which, like the instruments, is beginning to look more like a collection than a set of tools. My "real collections" are of 1960s rock posters with a focus on the late surf/rock art icon Rick Griffin, lowbrow & pop surrealist art, first edition books, kachinas & Oaxacan wood carvings. My two main travelling goals are firstly to visit every city in the UK and then as many cities as possible after that. I'm currently halfway through England's. Secondly, I want to visit at least one city in each of the six inhabited continents.

I collect vinyl records. Have about 3,000. A few of my favorites:

...
- The Who "Who's Next" (UK Track pressing) 1st pressing Headhunters jacket NM
- Yes "Fragile" (UK Plumb label) 1st pressing NM

These are two records my parents had in their collections that I used to listen to all the time when I was teenager. Who's Next sounds great on vinyl. The song is over, onto.

Kind Of Blue is also a great record - one of the best of all time, not bad ambiance music for a cook-and-bang evening either.

Your parents have very good taste!

You're right, "The Song is Over" is the best song on that album and maybe their best and my favorite all around. Truly magical.

I think "Kind of Blue" could be the greatest, most perfect music album ever made of any genre and it was done in 1 or 2 takes I think.

Those albums will sound absolutely amazing if one can get them on their first pressings, and UK labels. No UK pressing for Miles Davis of course. I like collecting vinyl because it's something you can enjoy over and over again. It's not to say a collection won't depreciate, but Ebay and other sites have brought good liquidity to collectibles in general.

I recently started collecting Guttermouth CD's (a bit of break away in genre from bands like The Who). I like to collect guns too, and I know there's got to be someone else here who does as well.

This. Future you will be very happy with present you..

Yes, "present me" goes back to review these pictures and videos occasionally..

Being able to relive the greatest sexual experience of my life is awesome.

It feels like I can go back and fuck these girls over and over again, any time I want. And, of course the girls never age!

My collection brings me a lot of happiness.

I need to collect some more cash!

I only collect Jimi Hendrix bootlegs of his live concerts, which are way better than the studio albums.

Not particularly classy or valuable, but I collect t-shirts from all the concerts and shows that I go to. It is a means of maintaining a memory of the event. Will probably get them framed when I have some more money.

The trumpet break about a minute into "So What" is a sublime flash; I like to think of it in my head when I walk into a bar or a party.

One caveat is if you get an original pressing of KoB, one side (I forget which one) has its songs mastered at the wrong speed, so the key and the tambres of the instruments mismatch the other side slightly. I can detect it with my ears, most non-musicians probably couldn't.

If you get the CD version that was remastered in the mid 1990's (my first copy of the album) it's on key throughout. There's a vinyl press of that remastering which should be considered authoritative, but without the clout of having a true first pressing.

Alcohol: filled up a 30 bottle wine fridge with mostly CA cabs and other varietals I like. Was thinking about upgrading to a 100 bottle unit, but I've already dropped way too much as it is on the stuff I have. Also used to have 40+ bottles of single malt whiskies but have cut it down to 7-8.

Musical instruments: 4 guitars, keyboard, bass guitar, mandolin, ukulele and an accordion soon.

Boarding passes: have a binder with my boarding passes from my travels in the past few years. Great way to remember all the places I've been. Some people will call bullshit on my travel stories sometimes but shut the fuck up when they see 100+ business/first class boarding passes in the binder.

Pics/videos: Like giovonny said, it's great to relive the moments where you banged these girls. mysecretfolder app on iOS is great for keeping it close without getting blown out.

I consider myself extremely lucky that I can indulge in these pursuits. Also, probably helps that I'm not into electronics or cars like most guys, and have quite a few side hustles that make more than enough money to fund these collections.

Books. I have a few that are out of print, some first editions, and some that were printed 80, 90, 100+ years ago. I imagine as books are replaced by digital copies more and more my collection will grow and increase in value.

Or I'll just become a crazy old man with shelves and piles of books everywhere ranting about days gone by...
