My computer got hacked

I got back from the gym a couple of hours ago. Came back, turned on my computer and opened up my web browser and everything was changed, now I thought it was just a minor virus whatever. So I tried updating my virus protection ETC, nothing would update. I ended up running scans in safe mode and holy shit....143 malware detections, 500+ adware/spyware, don't remember how many rootkits and a bunch of other shit.

Every time I'd hit quarantine or delete, nothing would happen. I ended up calling my tech savvy cousin and we manually deleted everything.

One thing in particular that was targeted was ironically my apple ID and email address.

Some files had also been broken into but I've never been one to keep private info on my comp.

I deleted all the personal pics that I had before I decided to check out the nudes that were being spread around so I'm not sure if those have been comprised.

I also, don't watch porn on this comp but I had been clicking on A LOT of links for the nudes that were being spread around. Learn from me and be careful.

I don't even know if its safe right now...Anything else I should do?

Be careful on what links you click on...I don't think any real damage was done here.

You need to run some serious programs to check if there is malware left. Download and run Malwarebytes and HitmanPro with updated definitions, I don't have time to find links right now but you can look them up. I warned guys about these links, and I hope others learn a lesson.

Also download super antispyware and microsoft has a good free one also.

Run all of them so they can catch stuff the other ones miss and vice versa.

OR do a system restore but sometimes these viruses won't let you do that.

Also, my computer is now VERY slow. When I open up a web browser it won't respond for at least then 5 minutes. After that its very laggy and a lot of stuff won't even properly load. Any tips?

Given the severity of the hit I would advise to make sure that your computer is offline (turn off the wifi). Copy all the data you need to a hard drive if you don't have a backup already, once you do that simply reformat your computer. I am running a malwarebytes scan as I type this in the background but thankfully have no detections.

Edit: Do you have a windows 7 or 8? If you have 8 you can reformat easily. Most 8 laptops come with apps which allow you to go back to factory restore easily.

Try system restore. OR this sounds terrible.

But if you have all your discs. Download all your key files. And reload everything. It is a bitch. But it will be a clean load.

Windows 7 and I'm on a desktop. Think I should just get all my important files on a flash drive and do a factory restore?

Back up your important files and reinstall the OS.

If you're in college, your school probably offers the licensed OS for free. If you work, your company may offer it for a small price.

That's your best bet. Just make sure you have solid protection set up before you start looking at your flash drive on the new install.

I would definitely say so. You said you had more than 143 malware detections and 500+ spyware/adware. You also talked about your internet browser being very slow. That's a telltale sign of a bad virus. Usually if I get a few detections I will trust malwarebytes to take them out but with that many detections it's better to do a factory restore. I had a similar attack once and I kept on running malware non-stop. It erased most but some would show up in every scan and would not be quarantined. Get it over with.

I agree, too many infections. Backup Data, reformat and install the OS from scratch.
You can however give this a try: http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/eek/

Don't use the internet with an admin account. No virus can install itself if it does not have admin privileges.

You should invest in a good firewall program and not cheap out on those shitty free ones given out like leaflets to the poor.

Bitdefender is a good investment. They always do sales as well.

What do you mean redirected? If you do a factory reinstall it will wipe the computer clean and take you to 'out of box' state.

So, it will remove all the viruses?

If at any point I click after a 5 minute period I get taken to some website that has "google.com" in it and it tells me that I've won this for being the 1,000,000 user to use google today or that my computer is under attack and that I need to buy that...ETC bullshit like that..

Option 1. Use malware + cc cleaner in SAFE MODE WITHOUT NETWORKING.
Option 2. Factory reinstall WILL remove all viruses BUT WILL remove all saved files and installed programs. (Literally will be at default FOB mode).

Lol yeah, it will remove all viruses. That's why I said last night turn off your internet (this will stop your computer being redirected every few minutes), take the files you need if you don't already have a backup, do a factory reinstall and you are good to go. Given the severity of your hit it makes sense to do a factory reinstall.
