From a notches standpoint, you'll get more bangs in Shanghai being a tall white guy, especially off of the night scene.

Buenos Aires, Paris, or Shanghai for one year?

Several questions to ask yourself....

1) Where have you been to in the world already (continent, countries, etc)?
2) Will you have any chances to visit or live in these places at a future time?
3) Which places will you NOT be able to live, visit, or work at a future time?
4) Which city will help you reach your short-term/long-term professional goals?
5) If picking a city based on solely instant gratification aka interest in exploring a region primarily (nothing wrong with this btw), would you be able to come back & still have the opportunity to pursue many of your long-term professional goals and international networking pursuits in a different locale?

Paris: more diversity in looks with girls

Buenos Aires: If you like latin/med looking women

Shangai: If you have yellow fever.

IF you dont have specific tastes I'd go with Buenos Aires since Its cheaper, or paris (easier to travel to nearby locations)

Buenos Aires, Paris, or Shanghai for one year?

A lot of great replies here so far, all of which are much appreciated! RVF is coming through again.

To address some points guys made:

The exoticism and adventure level will be much higher in Shanghai than the 2 other ones.

Your value will be higher in China than in France or Argentina. In all the places I have been to, China was the one where being white and tall gave me the most value.

Buenos Aires will offer extended dry spells followed by a difficult lay with an 8 who is a cunt. France will offer relative sexual variety with mediocre entitled women who you will likely never see again. China is the best option here.

I'd personally take that job in Shanghai without much consideration. It's a great adventure to be young and white in the east AND have a job which raises status and social networking.

These pretty well sum up while I'm leaning towards Shanghai at this point. I'm based out of New York, and while BA and Paris sound great, at the end of the day I can't imagine they're that different from NYC or any other big Western city. I've lived in Colombia, Mexico, and Spain before, so Latin America and Europe don't have the same exotic appeal, whereas China sounds like a crazy adventure.

Career wise it's really a toss up. Unless I fell in love with whichever city/country I go to, I'd come back to NYC at the end. The work I'll be doing will be substantially similar in all three cities, which is why I get to choose in the first place.

Pick Buenos Aires. if you know spanish enough that is one less barrier to meet gorgeous women.

You speak Spanish and will have $$$. Hit up Argentina now while it's on the downturn and live like a king.

You guys make a good point though. Argentina is the only place where'd I be able to run game / create a social circle in the native language. Even after reading this thread I'm still pretty unclear on how much I'd be hamstrung in Shanghai/Paris by not speaking the local language. I don't want to spend a year just banging expats...

Great links, sounds like you had a helluva time. Kai's guide is phenomenal, I've printed it out and will give it a more solid lookover when I have time. The fact that he speaks Mandarin makes me wonder how true it would hold for me though..

Hm, this is the first I've heard Shanghai might be comparable to Paris in terms of price. Anyone else heard this?

Go to places you can get the most out of when younger first.

Interesting point. Although honestly I have no idea how any of these cities are with respect to age. Maybe youth is more highly valued in the West than in the East?

Absolutely. This thread shows pretty clearly that there are arguments for all three. I'll be making my decision in the next week or so, I'll be sure to report back.

In the meantime keep the responses coming!

There is no way that Shanghai come close to Paris in terms of price. This is actually a big advantage of Shanghai over Paris.

Paris is in the same range of price as London or Moscow, this is the most visited city in the world, all the new rich from the gulf, russia, latin america are buying apartment there, most of the big corporations in France are in Paris or around. It makes the price of housing in Paris insanely high. Just in this area you will spend so much more than in Shanghai.

Thanks for the link, pretty much confirms what I'd thought, although Shanghai is a bit more expensive that I'd imagined. Nothing on NYC though

Ajax. Shangai is too far off to just bang expats. Chinese seem to me, I might be wrong, a too tough conservative group for anyone to crack it open. Not saying is impossible but, I would go as third and last option. I would go there as exotic destination BUT after you have tasted our local argie babes and cities.

Paris: comes 2nd, is more expensive, oui but it is close to ALL major capitals in Europe.

Dude, come to Argentina, enjoy the wines and asado, our unique taste for pizzas, get crazy with the chicks.
Enjoy visiting the other major cities of Argentina, we have a big country to explore.

After the year, you can choose Paris, if your employer gives you that choice.

They call BA the Paris of South America.

-IF you speak spanish already BA will be 100 times easier for you.

-Also BA is cheap as fuck, Im talking you can EASILY live on $100 USD a week

- Traveling throughout SA is easy and cheap, you can easily go to Uruguay, the south of Brasil or Argentina for real cheap

- The women are fly as fuck and the asado is real good
- Also you will probably fit in a lot better
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Paris, France

- It's a tad bit expensive

-The only thing about Paris is that you will meet some pretty dope and cute girls.

-The fact that you speak spanish will make you exotic to Parisians which will be a plus

- Yes you will have to battle stupid Anti-American bullshit but once you get past that Paris would probably be your second choice if I were you.

Paris. If someone else is picking up the tab. You can travel to so many other nearby countries easily. As long as you are respectful and try to learn a few words the French are not that bad. When I went to Europe for the first time I got turned around trying to find my friend's hotel. A very nice woman got me to the subway, gave me a ticket and told me where to get off. And it was clear she was in a rush. So I have always had an appreciation for France.

I have had bad experiences with French people in America but not in France. But I will say I don't generally walk around trying to be a dick to people, especially when traveling. If you go to Paris always keep one eye on the ground when walking through neighborhoods, dog shot everywhere. Also you are only allowed to eat pain au chocolat [Image: biggrin.gif]

For my own selfish reasons, I'd pick Buenos Aires because I dig the challenge of Argentine women.

Opportunities to be a working ex-pat in Paris on someone else's tab however might not come up in the future.

As an economic powerhouse, I imagine the chance to work or visit Shanghai for business purposes should continue to arise.

The Paris backers seem to make a great point about that.

Actually the pay would be the same for all three cities, so variations in the cost of living would directly impact my playing around money.

I've decided to eliminate Paris. I'm sure it's a dope city, but it's expensive as all hell and I can always go there on vacation. This seems to be a decision between exotic East vs familiar West, and if I'm choosing the latter I might as well pick the place where I already speak the language and my money goes further (BA).

Still trying to decide between BA and Shanghai though

Dude, dont think this too much.

Baires is the deal. Besides, if you feel a bit blue, there is a huge expat group to make you feel more like home. It all comes down to how easy you blend with the locals.

you can quickly improve your spanish and sound like not spaniards, I can assure you.

Never been to any of them, but Paris is the most international city of the three. You will be able to find all kinds of girls in Paris- Eastern European, Persian, etc...

And having some French in your arsenal could definitely help you back in the states. Ask any woman what they think is the sexiest accent..

I don't think language will be to big of an issue in Shanghai. Many people there learn english as their second language. Many young girls will speak it. After 6 months you'll be decent enough at mandarin if you practice 1 hour a day. Very cheap too. You'll be able to save a lot and live like a king. Shanghai is by far my favorite city in the world. Very beautiful.

Shanghai is a dump, no matter how much they try to cover that up with shiny skyscrapers. It's the poor man's Hong Kong. And Shanghai girls are famous for being the most ruthlessly materialistic gold-diggers in the Eastern hemisphere. But to be fair to them, the whole city in general is basically about greedy bastards trying to fuck each other over.

And then there's the pollution. On bad days, you can write off any sort of physically strenuous activities outdoors. Not that you'll be wanting to go out at all on those days anyway.

I get Paris is expensive, but there is a worldliness/classiness that BA and Shanghai don't have in my humble opinion. I know I should follow my own advice more often, but you only live once. Live it while you can. It is a great opportunity.

And as far as chick goes. Chicks go to Paris thinking of romance and shit. So I think tourists/foreign students may be in the mood. I know it sounds a bit silly, but seriously chicks think Paris and think love/romance.

^ Agreed, most girls from all over the world dream of going to Paris.

I have never been to the other two, but I can't see BA being that interesting after a year and Shanghai you would have to love Chinese girls.

Never been to any of the 3 but you'd really have to ask yourself "how do you want to live?"...

It's not like you'll be there for a month and fly off...You have 1 year!!!
- You speak fluent spanish
- You want to get laid as much as possible
- You want to travel surrounding countries
- You like thick women
- You are there in October
- 6'3 muscular white guy [Image: wink.gif]

Questions To Ask...
1. When you're not working or fucking, what are you going to be doing?

I live in NY and my boy who's been traveling around the world has stated "NY is still reigns supreme". My love for NY is the overall people and the diversity of lifestyles that could be experienced.

In a sense, "paris" you get what you pay for, there are lots of things to do. Whereas BA nightlife will be limited since it's so late as you stated. (Is it worth not being able to go out at night?)

2. The Weather: Are You A Closer Or Hustler?

If you hit Argentina you will have many months of summer adventures. Visit Rio for your "thick women" [Image: smile.gif] [Image: smile.gif] [Image: smile.gif]

Do you want to deal with winter weather NOW or LATER? Paris isn't going to be dead in the winter, it's too much of a mobile city. (My fav season here in NY is Winter!!!)

3. You Do Understand It's A Year?
You can truly build a long lasting social network...

4. What's your social skills like?
Goes back to the whole "closer or hustler"...

If you aren't one to hit the ground running you might actually be better off focusing on the long term overall success.

5. Do you plan on getting into any short term relationships?

You might be the archetype to hit SEA but are you one who easily thinks "yep, I like this girl...lets move her in" hahaha.

The Verdict...

Argentina
Personally I'd advise you to choose this because...
- You like thick women (rio is right there)
- Nightlife might start late BUT if you can do it proper you can rack up on the weekends.
- When you get there you'll be enjoying summer time so it allows you to rack up and meet tons of people
- Steak & Wine [Image: wink.gif] (I hope your a foodie)
- How often are you really going to be checking out surrounding countries? Get it out your system for carnival then abit of local travel at most?
- You can easily communicate so there is no limitations

If you had my "personality" then I would hit Paris "no question"...
- Food Food Food
- High End Nightlife (Basically hookup with tons of hotties)
- Travel to Lyon, South Of France, Berlin!!! (Party & Eat)
- Live the CITY life!!! (Perfect city to create an epic lifestyle)
- French women (I love em)
- Social Circles

If you genuinely want to just "whore it up" for a year then pick SHANGHAI...

My boy had a blast in SEA when it comes to women BUT another friend simply disliked it so much (there for work) that he simply was counting down the days.

Buenos Aires, Paris, or Shanghai for one year?

^ in a roundabout way you have given him the same answer, Paris.

Food - Paris wins easily.
Women - Paris wins easily for the diversity.
Lifestyle - Paris wins easily. For me fashion, sports (French Open, Tour de France, Football) or head down to Monaco for F1 - lifelong dream.
Travel - Paris but I can see an argument for Shanghai.
Again though I would be all over Europe on weekends. I am sure telling some EE/FSU/Balkan hottie that you are an American based in Paris would cause the panties to drop.

If I was in your situation and I mentioned that I am moving to Paris, the whores would come out of the woodwork wanting to be my friend/BF etc.
You already speak Spanish, so you would be able to master French pretty quickly I assume.
I know some dudes on here are strong on Asia, I am not knocking it but Europe gets the nod.
Buenos Aires might be great, but Chile, Uruguay are next door which is a yawn. Brazil is the only highlight but I would rather move to Brazil. I also here it is expensive to fly around Latin America, so it is not like you can fly to Colombia for the weekend.
