Looting is somewhat widespread:

http://www.ksdk.com/story/homepage/2014/.../13880305/

I understand the anger from the shooting, but if you're going to loot, why not loot the rich areas instead of your own neighborhood? You're not fighting against authority if you destroy the area you live in.

This isn't anything to do with the shooting. Its all the " me me me" opportunists taking advantage of a lack of law and order.

Wont be long till its a race thread.

In a news conference Sunday morning, St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar provided more information on the investigation so far. He stated that around Noon, a Ferguson officer encountered two teenagers on the street. As he was exiting his police car, one of the two teens allegedly shoved the officer back into the cruiser and assaulted him. Chief Belmar says there was struggle over the officer’s weapon and at least one shot was fired inside the car, hitting no one. After the initial alleged assault, they exited the car. Belmar says the officer then fired at the teen or teens as they ran away. One teen was shot multiple times and died at the scene.

If that's even remotely true (I'm not saying the whole thing is but there's probably at least an element of truth to it) then this is beyond stupid.

Why is it that some communities riot over petty criminals dying yet when honest people in their midst are victims of their out of control sons they don't seem to give much of a shit?

They do not loot the rich, since they are better protected. Also they do not differentiate between small businesses which might get impacted severely by looting or big corporations who won't feel the bottom-line at all.

Also in the current digital age most of the offenders can be prosecuted. The London riots left thousands fined or in prison - it just took months to find the guys. Hiding your face is all fine and well, but there are other cameras at ATMs, city lights, people's phones etc. Many guys will be going down for a bag of Doritos.

All the rational people left this area back in the late 90's.

There is also a good 20 mile buffer zone between North County and anything you would consider prosperous in St. Louis.

So there is a Twitter hashtag that protests the media portrayal of the victim. #IfTheyGunnedMeDown wonders which photo would be shown on TV versus a nice photo of them that would be hidden.

Here's a typical entry:

Because they'd be shot on the spot if they tried rioting in white neighborhoods. No way the cops would even let a mob get that close to the wealthy areas.

Meanwhile 82 shootings in Chicago on 4th of July weekend, mostly if not entirely black-on-black and I recall seeing no anti-violence protests. But if a non-black kills even a single black, it's a time to take to the streets.

Come on man, kbell asked an excellent simple question about weaves and you give him this "post-fall America" boilerplate?

Yes, apparently weaves are pretty pricey and weave theft is becoming increasingly common. Here is a good news article:

http://newsone.com/1943025/human-hair-we...-the-rise/

Quote:Quote:

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported last fall that robbers are especially targeting the most expensive and highest quality hair sold. “Remy” hair, a popular and expensive braid of weave, can sell for as much as $200 a bundle. After the hair is purchased, then comes the cost of a beautician sewing it in at the tune of hundreds, or sometimes, thousands of dollars.

....

The most recent rash of hair thefts around Philly have resulted in people snatching packages of hair from beauty store racks. Some have been brazen enough to go behind counters to steal hair from display glass cases. Police investigators told the Philadelphia Inquirer that thieves have even sunk as low as using baby strollers to load up on hair.

Last year, The New York Times reported that there were several high scale human-hair theft robberies around the country. In February, a Meyerland beauty salon in Houston experienced a major weave thief that resulted in a $150,000 loss. The month prior, another Houston salon was robbed of $40,000 worth of weave. Last April, a thief stole $90,000 worth of weaves from a beauty supply store in Chicago. There were other human-hair stealing capers reported from different parts of the country–$60,000 in San Leandro, California from a beauty supplier; $30,000 in Remy hair from an Atlanta store chain, $10,000 from a San Diego, California beauty shop and $10,000 from a Dearborn, Michigan beauty supply store. The latter resulted in the death of the store’s owner last March by men who fatally shot him for 80 packages of hair worth about $10,000.

In the Chicago caper, the thieves totally overlooked the store’s register that was full of cash and instead opted to take the bags of hair.

People have been complaining about the outrageous prices of weaves for a long time, as you can see in this post entitled RANT: why is weave so friggin expensive

Quote:Quote:

maybe its because i dont get paid much but weave hair is just so expensive to me! 2 packs of sh*tty BSS hair, threads, needles, and a stylist + tip for a style that only lasts a month max DATS alot of money! am i alone? i wish i could go hard in weave like i want to but i still struggle just to spend $$.

It was the same way in the LA riots, as I'm sure it's the same way in most riots.

Burning down their own neighborhood and choosing easy targets. There are well documented cases of rioters going to town in Koreatown and police would literally pack up and leave, which is why you saw Korean business owners on their rooftops with assault rifles.

If you saw rioters anywhere near white neighborhoods it would have been a completely different story.

Because it would be nearly impossible to loot in rich area's.

Rich areas are well protected and probably miles away.

I don't think their aim is to fight against authority.

The aim of most looters is simply to get something for free.

I doubt girls stealing weaves have any political agenda.

I'm not defending their actions, I'm just answering your questions..

The shooting of an unarmed man, the protesting of that shooting, and the looting are three different things.

The most important thing now is the investigation of that shooting.

I think its pretty stupid.
Instead of wonder how the media will portray you...why not never allow pictures to be taken of you in a scenarios that could make you look bad?

the media is gonna have a hard time demonizing me when all the pictures I have are me surrounded by smiling women, me in some form of job wearing a uniform or suit, or me on my travels.

This is almost by my company worldwide HQ. I've spent nearly a month of my life at the nearby Renaissance Airport Hotel. Colleagues are being told to stay at home. As if St Louis wasn't enough of a shit hole to begin with, now this. I suspect it will be the next Detroit.
