Golf Thread - Do you have balls?

Yes, I have balls. Bridgestone E6's to be precise.
I first took lessons when I was a teenager, dropped the game for a while, and picked it up again a few years back when I was working at a country club. I'm terrible, but work on my game any way I can.
Most fun I've had on a course was at Royal Links in Las Vegas. It's an homage to links courses that host the British Open, recreating many famous holes (such as The Road Hole from St. Andrews). I was surprised they were able to make such a good links-style course in the desert, given that it's more of a coastal design style.

Like most white guys, I drive around with clubs in my trunk.
I used to have a buddy that would go to this dinky little 9 hole course with and it was always fun.
I hardly ever play these days.

I love Bridgestone e6's. In my experience they play like budget ProV's.

I'm an e6 guy myself as well. I don't typically work the ball, and if I do it happens to be by accident, so a ball like the e6 has really helped my game. That and finally getting comfortable with my set of blades.

Idk how you play bridgestones, I hate those balls. I've been using Callaway Warbirds for a while, I love how they feel.
I haven't played a course in LV before, the farthest I've gone is Palm Springs. There's some gadgety courses there - blind shots, etc. What else do you do in the desert than build an insane golf course...
Is there a lot of golf out in LV?
I settled on the E6's through trial and error. The ball you play is easiest equipment change to make (don't like the ball? buy a sleeve for $5-8. don't like your irons? mininum $500.) Played Titleist NXT and DT Solo, Callaway Hex Chrome, and a few others I got some samples of from the golf shop, but the E6's worked best for me.
As for Vegas, it's a resort town, so there's a ton of golf. Both in Vegas proper and Henderson. You could easily find one to suit your style of play.

yes, golf has that reputation. but damn if it doesn't take self discipline and master to get good. Plus, it's a great way to bond since you're out there for 4 hours or so.

I used to play a lot, got down to 7 but I don't play much now.
Why has this thread turned into a discussion on balls?
I have to say though - the high you get from ripping an iron off the turf, right out of the sweet spot, that soars into the sky then drops like a dart next to the pin is one hell of a feeling.
Its why we come back again and again, even after playing badly.
Golfers know what I mean.

Golf is great because if you're an athlete, by the end of your life, you're gonna be playing golf. Its the only game where the average 60 year old is better than the average 25 year old. Golf is alpha, the mental fortitude required to keep your mind right during a round is astounding.
I don't know about you guys but about 10% of my rounds end with me storming off the ninth green in a fit of rage after throwing all of my balls into a pond

^^^ That's one of the reasons I enjoy practicing with my son. He loves the idea of golf ("hit little ball with big stick", he's three), and loves to play when I'm practicing. I figure when I'm an old man, I'll have someone already lined up to play alongside me.

Golf is absolutely the best sport for men. It's kind of dropping off in popularity with my (millennial ) generation unfortunately, but I still love playing. I'll be playing as long as I live.

It's only dropping off for men who don't understand the value of "the good old boys" club. If you're in, you're in. That, plus exclusive country clubs have been hurting as the under 35 crowd hasn't been beating down their doors. There are some real membership bargains out there, and those will put you in contact with the 50+ crowd of established businessmen (not to mention their 18-23 year old daughters). As far as networking goes, if you can afford the up front fee and monthly dues, it is a no brainer.

I play a fair amount. I grew up in the Okanagan Valley in BC. 40ish courses within an hours drive. Last couple years, I was playing around 25 games a year. This year, I was playing a lot until I separated my shoulder. Now, I've been out for 6 weeks. Playing my first game post-injury on Saturday so we'll see how that goes.
Also play Bridgestone E6s and drive around with clubs in my trunk haha. For clubs, I have Titleist 913 driver, 3W and hybrid. Irons are Taylormade CB Tour. Wedges are Titleist Vokey 52, 56, 60. Putter is a Scotty Cameron.

I played a lot after college, then not so much, now I play a lot again. No better time of the week than my Thursday night golf (beer) league with all my friends. I've never actually practiced or worked at it, it's just something I do with friends.
In my experience, and perhaps because I'm not that great, balls don't matter. Clubs don't matter a ton other than having a decent set with the right shaft flex. I bought my set of irons off craigslist, prob 3 yrs old but looked new, TaylorMade Burner irons, then pieced together some cheap woods.
If you give any pro golfer a set of clubs they'll kill you, no matter how nice or what balls he's using (new or used even). That's my thing.

I can barely get 9 holes in at 7am on a Saturday. Working towards a lifestyle where I can play everyday. I am sort of glad fewer people are playing, easier tee times and better groups to pair with. Played Bethpage a few times this year, dont play enough to get the most out of the course.

What would guys on here recommend as the best way to get into golf:
Some lessons, buy some clubs and start playing or hit the driving range first.
Canada has some amazing courses and its popular amongst the guys I work with.

Check out callaway preowned for some decent used clubs; they sell other brands too.
