Having read the book ("research"), I get why women are into it. It involves a rich, powerful, sexually experienced, high status man who could have any woman, but only has eyes for the heroine. He wants to fuck her, take her, and dominate her, but he also has a troubled past and only she can fix him. I repeat: he is the super alpha and only she can fix him. The character checks off every trope of feminine desire there is.

I'm actually looking forward to this film, because it will bring what women really want into the cultural spotlight, and create a fanbase of women who want real life domination. The trailer makes it look the film's producers know what they're doing. A Beyonce tie-in to target the film's female audience, an implication of scandal, without too much... I've seen a couple interviews with the producer and writer, and they know the source material is pure feminine fantasy, but are trying to find the depth in it. Regardless of how the final product turns out, it'll be an interesting to watch the response.

In case you're missing it, here's a brief synopsis... Plain no-talent, zero personality girl meets hot, buff, young, powerful, rich man. He wants her, she says no. He sends his (incredibly loyal) thugs to track her, he pull her bacon out of the fire, says he wants her, she says no. Alpha fucks anyone?

He says he wants her some more, she says she's not sure. He shows her around town in his helicopter, which HE pilots. He shows her his incredible penthouse apartment with servants and assistants. He tells her he wants her, she says she's thinking about it. More alpha fucks.

He dominates her by telling her to eat. She does as he says. They have tender, caring sex, despite his threats that he fucks, "hard". He politely and expertly uses a condom when they have sex. Alpha fucks with beta undertones.

She likes the sex, agrees to more. He "dominates" her by setting her up with an awesome job interview (which she DIDN'T want him to do). He further dominates her by replacing her piece of shit car with a brand spanking new one (what an oppressive asshole) . He buys her a new computer and dominates her buy telling her she has to use it to email him. It's total beta bucks.

EVERYONE she knows and is important to her (close friends, family members) tells her how wonderful he is and how lucky she is to be with him. They pretty much tell her to do whatever the guy wants because he's so fucking out of her league that she'd be an idiot to pass up the chance to be his cum rag. Bam, social proof!

She gets a couple of spankings, and some semi-rough though 100% CONSENSUAL sex that she's in total control of.

This book isn't about the sex, it's about the female fantasy of instantly checking out of the sexual marketplace with the highest Alpha attainable who also has pledged his complete beta servitude to her. Before Christian Grey came along, Anastasia was asexual. She didn't even have a 'choice'. There was not a single man on earth she was interested in, and wasn't even interested in having any interest in men.

Then, suddenly, like magic, "poof"! The embodiment of everything every woman wants in a man appears to her and is instantly smitten with her.

She went from not wanting a choice, to getting every woman's first choice. That's what these women are drooling over, not the non-existent 'rape'.

The real interesting aspect of this whole 50 Shades thing, is that the Snark Stream Media HATES 50 Shades. It's too tame for some, too unrealistic for others, too stereotypical, and they all run over their own sentences trying to say how poorly written it is.

Keep in mind, a woman writing Twilight Fan Fiction is behind it. It's seriously another JK Rowling story, but the people that should be saying "you go girl" aren't.

The Jezebels, Gawkers, Slates, Salons, - basically the demographic of people that watch Mad Men aka the Don Draper show religiously - hate the books and hate the movie.

I've long stated women have a huge problem with recognising fantasy for what it is, and start basing their reality around it.

Also, women love royalty, and Hollywood is America's royalty. Remember that women weren't the ones who broke away from King George III of England. Men forged the American idea of making it on your own.

If women get in charge, we'll probably have some form of monarchy within a generation. Wait, hold on -- considering the Clintons and Bushes, we probably already do.

WOW! This post hit me deep, personally. Thank you. It sort of tied things together for me about women and their complete worthlessness outside of the home/kitchen. It will be hard for me to take a woman that desires more out of her life than to be a good and faithful wife and mom serious again.

This is so true. Build a safe and stable society, after generations of sacrificing life and limb in war. Sacrificing life and limb in dangerous work. And a female brain cannot appreciate it. All they can do is think "wow, these things just came from some where, oh well, who cares I got a lot of gossiping to do today".

The actors in this movie were hardly the first choices. Most serious actors know that this movie will be totally panned. I predict it wins every Razzie possible.

I know a lot of actors myself. I once teased one of the girls saying: "Out of all the actresses I know, you'd be best for the role of Anastasia Steele." She didn't know what to make of that.

The likes of Emma Watson and Jennifer Lawrence would never do this role, and good for them.
