If your confidence is also a problem, I suggest (as I do a lot) picking up some sort of combat sport. Boxing, Muay Thai, Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, whatever. It's a great way to lose weight and get into shape, and it also does wonders for your confidence in every aspect of life. Also a great way to meet other people and get into a social circle. PM me if you are interested and want any advice on picking out a good gym to try. Also the great thing about Jiu Jitsu, and probably some of the others also, is that most guys are pretty chill in BJJ. Some people are intimidated thinking it will be a bunch of muscle bound guys trying to beat the shit out of each other, but it usually isn't. The guys who come in trying to "beat up" everyone generally get smashed up pretty quickly by the more experienced guys in the club and either learn their lesson, or never come back.

Thanks for that input. So many people mistake skinny-fat for being ideal. They think a gamer kid who lives off doritos and red bull is healthy because hes skinny and they think someone that has a larger build and a bit of fat is lazy and unhealthy.

I actually saw a tv program about this a while back, I think it was jamie oliver. He took 3 guys and ran some fitness tests on them all. 1, skinny gamer living on doritos, 2 average guy - not too athletic 3 "fat" aka bigger build with a bit of a gut and a slight case of manboobs. Misconceptions were shattered when it turned out the "fat" guy who drank too much beer, but played rugby/lifted with his mates was way healthier than the nerdy alien ganglion guy. Still the ideal is to look and be strong by being fit and having defined muscles.

I agree with Timoteo here. There are big guys who aren't necesarilly obese or overweight. I wouldn't consider myself obese or severely overweight, I just need to lose a couple of pounds extra.

I had an epiphany a few months ago, and went from a diet of energy drinks, pizza, and beer, to one small white pizza & nothing but diet soda, or (my new routine) a single 6in chicken breast sub on whole wheat with a single piece of cheese and diet soda or water. That's it for the whole day. If I want something to eat later, I drink water or diet (tricks your body into thinking it's full). I eat the same thing every day for like a week, then on the weekends, eat "regular"--not over my BMR, but enough to keep myself from starving or having my metabolism slow down. Basic moderation--steak and fries, crab cakes, fish, etc. Nothing super healthy but not Popeye's or McDonalds. Going from 3000+ calories per day to 600 calories per day, and the most mild of exercise, had me lose a lot of weight. I went from 255 to 215 in two or three months with comparatively minimal effort; probably not healthy, but it worked (am gunning for 200).

And yeah. Fat is overused. Technically at 220 I'd be obese; as a teen I was 230 and had a six-pack. At the recommended "healthy" weight for my height of 170, I can see my ribs.

BIG FAT LOSS TIP:

I've been trying this out this week, already lost a a cm or two from my stomach. After you've completed a vigorous weight training session hop on a treadmill and set it to a 6.5 km/h brisk walk with a 0% gradient. Every 5 minutes increase the gradient by 0.5%. So half an hour later you'll have just finished 5 minutes of walking at 2.5%

Its the perfect way to get some fat shedding cardio into your routine without hindering your bodies recovery after resistance training. I do it at the end of every gym session.

I was thin when I learned Game. Now I have put on some weight, because of the good comfortable life I have made for myself via game. I still have pretty decent muscles trough, mixed with fat trough.

I must say that I haven't noticed many negative effects to my game. In winter in northern latitudes being SLIGHTLY overweight works even better than being thin, but this is not so anymore in summer. Also I extrapolate that the poorer the country the more girls like a slightly overweight belly and round cheeks in their man as a proxy signal that he has some food to share.

I believe the most important thing for confidence is to have some muscles and real strength. Since I have those I have a good confidence and the excess fat even boosts it a little by putting me in a heavyweight category above most other men. Better to be fat and strong than skinny and weak, but being lean and strong is the best of course. Women notice first confidence then size and then strength, but whether this size comes from muscle or fat they notice only when you are both already naked so its too late..hehe, especially in winter.

I am still trying to lose the weight, but not for purposes of attracting women. My main concern is health and the second is that the extra fat makes some sexual positions uncomfortable and generally reduces my sexual stamina.

I think that dieting is a bad idea for a man. If you're doing serious strength training or conditioning, you might even have trouble eating enough. Don't stunt yourself since it's building and maintaining muscle that burns body fat, not necessarily preventing yourself from eating.

Confirmed. However, this does not have to be after you weight train, it can also be BEFORE, the trick here is INTERVAL training with different blocks for 1 minute stints, and only 1 minute recovery USE A STOPWATCH!

Whichever way you can incorporate Interval Sprints on a treadmill for about 20 minutes during/after your weight training will MELT FAT OFF YOUR BODY!! Do both!!

Do you think that is really the case, or is it that they don't want to admit it to most men in an effort to spare their feelings/avoid the uncomfortable situation of seeming "shallow"?

I've noticed many women seem to have no problem admitting these type of things amongst other women/close male friends where there is less chance of being juded themselves.

I have a question for you guys. So Im in a similar situation as the op. I understand how to get in shape but the thing is my school schedule makes it very difficult for me to properly prepare food and have enough time to go to the gym. I do what I can but Im finding that during the school semester my weight loss results are not as great and Im only maintaining my weight. Since I have to take courses every semester, including the summer I've come to the realization that getting fit is something thats going to take a very long time for me to do as I can only properly workout during the semester breaks and minimally during the semester.

My physique has always been an issue for me. I talk to my friends and tell them that its a lot more difficult to be successful with girls when you're overweight but they tell me I shouldn't worry about it because Im tall and Im not as fat as I think. I pretty much have the shape of a deffensive lineman

I also don't have time to go out clubbing or to bars so I can only rely on day game. Im aware that being overweight obviously doesn't help me but do you guys think I'm at a huge disadvantage? Im only asking this because Im finding myself freezing everyday before talking to girls at school. I only have the courage to talk to girls in my classes but I keep getting inhibitions when trying to cold approach girls walking in the halls or at coffee shops on campus. No matter how much I try to think of the situation differently to make myself feel confident enough to approach, I still hesitate. The thoughts that come to my head are along the lines of "im too overweight to even have her attracted to me anyways so whats the point of talking to her." I only have this problem for approaching girls during the day and its really starting to piss me off.

You are in college yes?
Your college has a gym which you have access to?
So bring a book and get on the treadmill/elliptical machine/stairmaster and kill two birds with one stone(read your study materials and get your workout in).

If you are fat, the best thing you can do is cut the shit out of your diet like soda/beer/fast food/junk food. Then you can also add some basic cardio activity to burn fat and actually improve yourself.

start with 20 minutes on one of those machines and work up to 45 minutes to an hour.

If you are trying to say "oh i can't work out during the semester, no time!" you are just kidding yourself.

Keto for me.

I went from borderline 36" waist to 32". Punching some extra holes in my belt was a good feeling. 13st 4lb down to 11st 3-7lbs. I'm 6'.

Now that my body has adjusted, I can't imagine eating any other way.

I'm worried I've taken it too far however, my legs look almost too skinny. I need to hit the gym more, fo sure.

Once I've done a good hours session, I know it'll feel amazing. So why the hell do I prioritise work over gym?

That said... one of the best players I know is 'built big', and it's fat not muscle. He also freely admits, nay boasts, after a drink or three!- that he has a small member. Yet he scores quality tail on the reg. His weight doesn't hold him back in the slightest.

I'm 6'2 and my ideal weight is 190. I was playing college soccer at 165 and people would tell me I looked like I was dying. If you have a very proportional body you can hide weight better. people usually guess I weigh less but all that running has built tree trunks of legs lol.

I would say continue gaming, I have been as high as 235 and I haven't seen it affect my aspect of life with women, does your body feel it? of course however. Just dressing sharp and having good hygiene goes a long way man.

In the meantime set weight goals to reach, cut out carbs to a minimal and do cardio activity(sports)

Bullshit. You can buy pre-cooked/sliced chicken at the store, broccoli/spinach, bell peppers, all kinds of healthy shit that all you do is grab and eat it. Brown Rice, oats, big old chuck roasts, etc... are all things you can make a lot of at once and then just put in containers in the fridge to grab and go. I put on about 20lbs so far doing Starting Strength over 4 months, and I'm getting compliments from women, even though I'm technically even more "overweight" now... And I still have too much belly fat, to be honest. I think a lot of it is that you just need to be comfortable in your own body. So figure out where you want to be and move in that direction.

If only you knew how bad things really are.

As a bit of a side topic, for both the OP and Jazzman, as you work through this don't pay too much attention to BMI. While it has its uses, it's pretty flawed in that muscle mass isn't taken into account and it penalizes the taller folk (i.e. they are more likely to be overwieght on the BMI simply because of how the formula works).

If you really want to use a more objective scale (other than the mirror) as to how you are progressing, I recommend the waist to height ratio scale. There are several calculators on line. A ratio or 0.5 to a bit below is "normal". It is more favoured by the health conscious crowd these days than the BMI as being better correlated with health outcomes.

Also, it is better to use metric measurements for both the BMI and waist to height ratios as well. That one I don't understand, other than it probably is more accurate to say 91 cm instead of 35.5 inches.

Easiest solution to your problem:

Jump rope.

Simple jump rope in your back yard for 15-30 minutes. I can guarantee you you won't be able to last any more than 5 minutes. That's fine, but keep pushing through and setting a personal goal. You'll eventually get to 30 minutes.

I've done some massive cutting in a month by incorporating jump rope into my warm up routine.

I really enjoy jump roping because it gets my whole body in motion. Running is alright, but I feel I get more bang for my buck from jump rope.

Second that, also lots of quick & healthy ways to cook food like broiling / grilling meats, steaming veggies etc. Not always so tasty but great for you. Also don't expect to come home from the gym or boxing and cook dinner, it will never happen. Cook up stuff when you have the time then it's there when it's time to eat.

The tastiest way to cook many vegetables quickly is as follows:

Place in plastic tub with a bit of butter. Put lid on unless it's cabbage.

Nuke for two to three minutes.

Add garlic powder and pepper, or whatever you fancy. Shake box (with lid on, duh) to distribute butter and seasoning.

Nuke for a further one to two minutes.

Then I add grated cheese and dig in.

Tinned mackerel is awesomely good for you and your brain cells too.
