A spornosexual is a muscular guy who spends all his time getting built and looking good to apttract one of the few non fat English women. This guy is one of them

The 22-year-old Geordie is an unashamed ‘spornosexual,’ a term coined last month by the writer Mark Simpson to describe young men who take cues on their appearance from sportsmen and pornstars. According to Simpson, these men boast “painstakingly pumped and chiselled bodies, muscle-enhancing tattoos, piercings, adorable beards and plunging necklines…their own bodies have become the ultimate accessories”.

Spornosexual may be an uglier, clumsier word than metrosexual - the term Simpson came up with to describe a new breed of man 20 years ago - but then spornosexuals themselves are less subtle than their metrosexual predecessors. With metrosexuality and the grooming it entails becoming the norm, men have to go to ever greater lengths to stand out.

You don’t have to have heard of the term before to have noticed that men are getting bigger. The sort of bodies that once only graced the cover of Men’s Health are popping up in pubs; men are fretting about getting themselves ‘beach ready’ in a way that used to be limited to women; the UK fitness supplement industry is now worth more than £260 million; hiring a personal trainer is no longer the preserve of celebrities and athletes but something office workers do too.

While working out and looking good is essential to a happy life, the extremes that are now the norm reflect extreme hypergamy.

What is sad is when you travel around the UK you see guys who look like this with fat birds that look ten years older than them with tatoos and someone else's children

Though the name is ridiculous its completely plausible. Women can work for their own money if they choose, divorce their husbands and get paid to have custody, they can event cheat and not suffer much. Carrying male traits that makes a guy look like a 'good husband' won't work as well with girls just looking to hook up.

Gay culture was the place where men's looks were all that mattered well before this and spending time on fitness, grooming and fashion were/are top priorities for gay dudes. This now applies to plenty of women, so those same gay habits/hobbies can carry over to straight men interested in banging chicks who will decide to bang them based on a swipe of their photo.

Spornosexual is a horrible word. I predict it will not catch on like metrosexual did.

But there is not a lot wrong with what these guys are doing. As long as they don't abuse steroids too badly the lifestyle is healthy both physically and mentally. Certainly healthier than the lager, chips and deep fried mars bars lifestyle many of their contempories in the North East are living. Obviously would be better if the women had a similar drive.

I think that real men are looking to become almost caricatures of men in the past. Everything is exaggerated, muscles, the cars we drive, the activities we partake in. Its to a point of extremes for a reason: women are becoming more masculine, so either a man can become more feminine (hell to the fuckin no) or become even more masculine than he already was.

There is nothing wrong with them working out and eating well, but essentially it is a Blue Pill approach of getting laid, if you focus mainly on those things. Women should be working out, eating well and dressing well - that would be sufficient for most to get a high-quality man. But now men are going that way while ignoring other parts of life.

Countless other dudes are going to look at those blokes and say: "I have no chance of ever looking like them. Might as well join Puahate.redditt and write about the unfairness of my inherited skull form."

And yes - I saw a few of those guys in the UK - tattoos, as they get over 30 they usually add more weight, no Game whatsoever, no career focus, sometimes even with a woman who has a kid by a Dark Triad Alpha. Essentially they play a woman's game, which is pathetic.

Good points on linking this to gay culture. The push for aesthetics on a top level is from that world. If men are confused in how to get women they will gravitate towards trying to attain physical perfection. It's a trap through as women don't value that as much as men do. Ya wasted resources and extra time that could be used elsewhere. Nothing wrong with being fit but hen aesthetics consume your life and it's not your job/lifestyle then there is a disconnect that you won't see many rewards from.

The pushing of gay culture to the masses just leads to more slutty women and more men with blue balls.

They burn really really bright and then hit a wall.

The natural players end up hitting a wall if they have neglected other areas of their lives. Similar to the way women hit a wall when they've relied on their looks their entire lives.

When you put so much value on things like looks and body, you will be betrayed by yourself as you get older. Unless you're a professional athlete WITH some knowhow on financial management, if you're a gym meathead you will fade into irrelevance.

Game is spirit. You attract people with inner game (eg spirit). Lifestyle is knowledge, you get more experience and life knowledge from a well rounded lifestyle.

And of course body, eg testosterone management. Over utilizing one of these 3 things will lead you to a dead end. All three need to be focused on to be a well balanced and successful life long player.

I'm all for self-improvement, but taking 1.5 hours to get ready everyday?

I get ready in 30 minutes tops including shower and that's rolling out for the night.

In the course of a week that's 7 hours of extra time to do your hair and primp apparently.

The guys in the first few pics look just like the average 20-25 year old in my local gym.

I've always been a bit more rough and ready than your average 'pretty boy' but recently I've started to take a bit more care. I started lifting as a result of this forum, the results were awesome and your body is worth taking care of. I don't do tats, half shaved hair or roids (still stuck in the surfer boy trend ) but I do shave my torso. I worked for the abs, I'm gonna show them.

This rang true:

In my experience the 'spornosexuals' are usually far more middle class than either the steroid pumped meatheads and the scrawny druggies you find on council estates around here. Therefore I'd rather hang with the former. I used to be your 'average' Brit. It took me about a year of clean diet and six month of lifting to become what that article is calling 'beach ready'- it's not that fucking hard. People need to stop putting men down who want to improve themselves. If you look good and feel good about yourself, everything improves, from women to work. Want a piece of it? Stop whinging, befriend your local spornosexual (as I did when I walked into my local gym as an undefined runt) and learn.
