Phoenix is still on my list of possibilities, can't deal with the cold anymore so Denver is kinda out. If I were to live in a tier 2 city I'd probably choose San Diego.

I second and third the whole screw LA and go abroad if you've got the location independent money. While Socal is going to be a whole lot radder than anything you've seen coming from the south it's still got a lot of drawbacks that everyone else allready mentioned.

Maybe stay a bit and if you like it use it as your home base. I met several people while living in CA that live abroad most of the year and come back to southern California during their downtime. The weather and scenery can't be beat stateside that's for sure.

The only thing I can think to add, having done the whole live in Socal thing myself , is to be prepared for a massive culture shock.

You're going to think everything has gone "hipster" coming from the south. It hasn't LA is just that trendy and Georgia is just that back woods when directly compared.

^ Denver is not good for women or game. Only for the outdoors and raising a family, grest cost o living. A 7.0 is fought over in Denver.

What exactly is so cool and rad about So Cal and would cause a culture shock? I briefly lived there in the 90's. It's like every other large American metropolis except it has Hollywood and lots more fake people. It kills me when people act like the rest of the country is uncivilized and ass backwards compared to that area.

^ From living other places or hearing from visitors many times the shock is:

1. the weather
2. how many people are in shape / active / trying be attractive
3. the laid back attitude which can come off as lazy, fake, and shallow or can come off as great because people were more uptight or backwards from elsewhere

The whole fake and shallow people bit is more of a Hollywood/Westside thing. I think it all gets a bit overblown. You can find real peeps in LA just like anywhere else. But if you're deep in the entertainment biz, everything is about connections, appearance, status and what you can do for me. That's just how that culture works. But it's totally avoidable if that's not your thing.

One thing I do miss about LA is there are so many scenes and lifestyles. There's something for everyone out there.

The really weird thing about LA, is that many people have "only in LA" type jobs. A lot of hustler type people out here. Its quite odd. I mean to be an "accountant" or an "office worker" here is a weird thing.

Moving from Florida to Los Angeles i learned some hard truths.

1) You will be taxed from here to kingdom come
2) The LA/California Government absolutely hates small business owners, they treat small business owners like garbage.
