"Men facing rape claims should have the right to anonymity"

A student at the University of Oxford faced rape charges, was on bail for six weeks, and now, following an investigation, charges against him have been dropped.

He believes those accused of rape should have the right to anonymity until initial investigations had been carried out by police.

How many thousands of men, across the World have to face such false accusations, that stain them for the rest of their lives, while the accusators have nothing to fear?

If this was the case, false rape claims would probably drop by about 90%. After all, what good is a false rape accusation if you can't ruin a man's life?

The case for giving accused men anonymity is at least as strong as it is for concealing the identities of accusers, which is the routine practice by media organizations.

Here is Naomi Wolf saying that rape accusers should be identified:

Either both are revealed or none are revealed until a verdict has been reached.

Assuming that you could get past the Free Speech issues, (and government limiting what the press can cover is a free speech issue by definition)

How do you enforce this right?

If anonymous university student is accusing the Sigma Chi of rape after her "secret" bukkake session, and TotalFratMove.com gets the names of accused dudes and decides to publish...

What do you do?

Try to send those bloggers to Federal "Pound Me in the Ass" prison?
Fine them?

Find out who leaked it and charge them with contempt of court.

If you are against the accused having anonymity like the accusers, you are fascist. Bottom line.

Why anonymity for men accused of rape is imperative

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/men/thinking-...ative.html

Quote:Quote:

[T]he sexist, irrational witch-hunt suffered by Ben Sullivan, the college’s Union President, shows that even those destined for greatness aren’t above a legal system that currently hates men.
After five weeks of public humiliation, finger-pointing and gender bias – both on campus and in the media – police confirmed that he won’t face a single charge over two unfounded rape allegations.
Not one. Nothing. Nadda.
But, like countless men all over the world – including Paul Weller, Amy Winehouse’s ex-boyfriend Reg Traviss, Nigel Evans MP, William Roache and Craig Charles – Sullivan's life has already been affected by a system that considers men’s innocence a bonus, not a baseline.
[…]
Not least because, despite the fact police won’t be pressing charges, millions of onlookers will favour their own skewed conclusion to that of the truth. Haters across the world will decide that Sullivan is guilty by default because he is male. They will gather around the water cooler and say: "there’s no smoke without fire" or "he looks the type".
This is precisely why a court of law armed with all the evidence, not a casual observer saddled with girl power grudges, should convict a defendant in a safe and fair way.
Worryingly, for many feminists – both male and female – it seems the accused deserve everything they get, which is ironic given that they’re supposed to be bastions of parity and equity.

I wouldn't go that far. One moment of clarity does not excuse her lifetime of eroding free trade with her shrill wailing.

innocent until proven guilty. both parties should be anonymous. false rape accusations should have the same punishment as rape.

I think everyone should remain anonymous, regardless of what they have been charged with, until proven guilty.

Putting peoples faces on newspapers/television for being charged with a crime, and then not even mentioning it when they have been found not guilty, is ridiculous.

I recall Tom Leykis covering the alleged rape by Kobe Bryant, and how he was careful to never say the accuser's name because of a court-issued gag order. What actually happens, I'm not sure. First amendment schmirst amendment...
