Noir, Superschalk, awesome info, thanks for sharing. I'm coming to Cape Town in late October for a week and I've booked an apartment near The Company's Garden. Looking forward to it.

Enjoy our beautiful country. If you come in September you are going to even catch huge part of the Rugby World Cup.
Also during these month you need to check out Claermont and Newlands in Cape Town. It is going to be packed with student girls.

Sweet sheet. Bump this thread for my own personal reminder.
Headed to Cape Town next month.
Very psyched to see it.
All this 'danger danger danger' talk has me intrigued - first time in Africa and I've got zero frame of reference (though I've been told that RSA, especially Cape Town, isn't REALLY Africa).

People say that about Cape Town because that general region was the first area in SA (and probably Africa) to be colonised. So it has had the longest period of continual European habitation. Cape Town is very scenic and has a good vibe. If you are into anything involving the outdoors you can spend months there (in Summer) without getting bored.

But don't dismiss the safari experience. No real safari areas near Cape Town. There are some decent places just east of Port Elizabeth, past the end of the Garden Route, about 800 km from Cape Town. But they are not as good as Kruger. If you have the time/money etc. consider a diversion to Joburg (you don't need to even stay overnight) en route to the Kruger National Park.

SA is substantially more dangerous than Canada, but don't be completely paranoid. Stick to tourist and middle/upper income areas and attractions and you'll somewhat reduce your exposure. If you want to visit poor areas only do so on a tour.

I fully agree don't get too paranoid however Cape Town with its beautiful landscape and nice people gives a false sense of security. Don't walk home after going out always take a taxi. Watch your belongings in bars and clubs and never leave your phone openly on a table.

If you use common sense and stay in safe areas you will not have problems but keep in mind that South Africa is one of the most dangerous countries in the world.

Update time.

With the exchange rate plummeting, South Africa has become even cheaper for foreigners to visit.

Reasons:

- Firing of Finance Minister Nene who was doing a 'good job' due to his disapproval of spending more money on the national carrier, SAA. Following this, he gave the job to Van Rooyen, a complete unknown which saw the confidence and currency rates plummet. He has now re-instated Pravin Gordhan who has held the job before, to a decent capacity after internal pressure from the ANC

- The weakening of the Chinese Yuan

- Higher prices for metals

- Fitch downgrading of credit status to BBB-

- Reserve bank probably won't intervene in currency markets

Ironically people are spending and borrowing more than is realistic (it's like I am in Cyprus again) and things don't look too good.

A more general video on the 'future' for anyone who wants to invest (lol): http://www.bloomberg.com/news/videos/201...-finances-

What the exchange rate currently looks like and an overview of past 10 years:

Onto the newcomers onto the list:

Bars

I have omitted the VA Waterfront as it is mainly a trap however Tasha's is a good place to take dates to.

• Oblivion **

Southern Suburbs, going on Friday and Saturday nights, it is like shooting fish in a barrel

• Up Yours **

The upstairs edition of Yours Truly brimmed with hipsters hanging on to the balconies sipping on their craft beers and smoking rollies. Lots of hot girls who seem to gravitate towards such absurdity

• Village Idiot **

The new big thing in town. Good vibes and the smoking area is good for chatting up girls and there are plenty of them.

• Tigers Milk **

A copy of the Muizenberg one. Pricey but good but better for day2s

• La Parada ***

Tapas bar, owned by the same folk who own Tigers Milk. Very game friendly and my flatmate runs the Thursday night parties (Lola) which I can vouch for in debauchery and hot girls (with electronic sounds)

• Sgt Pepper **

The food is hit and miss but lots of girls between 20-25. Retro music comes on at 10, similar to Decodance. Good place to bounce to and from.

• The Waiting Room **

Great place, awesome music, good ratios. 3 story bar setting with balconies and different areas.

• Blah Blah Bar **

Germans and hipsters, some hot girls here and there but free entrance and next to Jackal so okay for picking up and bouncing to Jackal/Asoka.

• La Vie **

Sea Point promenade beach bar. Lots of hotties who are running on the promenade stop here for a coffee. Good for day2.

• The Grand ***

Baller place, table reservations etc. Classifies as a club as well but more of a beach bar in my view. Good for everything if your budget is on key.

• Tjing Tjing **

Always thought this is a gay-ish bar but the ratios are great and the music flows. Decent prices.

Clubs

• ERA **

The best club in Cape Town, hands down. If you are into electronic music, this will be your stomping grounds and lots of hotties here. I personally don't go to pull as there are a lot of scene girls and CT is intertwined but perfect for foreigners looking for a lay. I vouch for the DJs and music, know most of them.

• Vice City *

This is Bullion Bar's older brother who cleaned up his act. Still a bit grungy but awesome music and I can vouch for the DJs, know most of them here too. The girls are easy but not spectacular (scene girls).

Honestly though, everything is DIRT cheap for foreigners right now.

In Durban now, CPT tomorrow. Met some cool ass Durban boys and they roped me around to the hot spots...man Durban has talent....hidden gem!

I do have to say that this currency exchange rate makes me feel like an American King.

When beers cost $8 back in the states and I can get one for R20-R25....$1.32-$1.64 and we're talking good lagers, pale ales, etc

I'm getting double johnny walker blacks or Jack daniel doubles for $5 USD...Absolutely amazing considering I live in Washington DC and was just living and working in Abu Dhabi/Dubai for a few months, where drinks were $20-$25 USD, LOL! Also, tipping 120 RAND (ZAR) meant immediate priority when I walked up to the bar. The bartenders knew I was American and likely knew I'd be tipping, unlike South Africans and these spots were 95% white South Africans.

My bill for two with tons of liquor and food was 600 RAND for 5 hours of day drinking and eating.

100 RAND bottomless mimosas is a great deal for them because the guys I met, who have great careers here, said spending 600 RAND is considered an expensive night for them, which is only $39 USD....Not trying to brag but us Americans who live in DC, NYC, SFO, LA, Vegas, MIA, etc know $40 will get us 3 drinks w/ tax and tip included, LOL.

I'll try to provide data points when I arrive in CPT in 18 hours!

Hey guys, feel free to PM me when you are here, I will try and make some free time to catch a beer, should you be so inclined.

I am on leave this week and hosting some friends next week.

A good idea when you arrive at a restaurant is to tip ahead of time to get preference and good service.

Fury: Where are you headed for NYE?

Totally forgot about this thread. I asked for advice on Cape Town last year and went there, but to keep it short: no flag.
I had only a few days to spend in Cape Town after my adventures in the Kalahari Desert and since it was my first time in the Mother City I ended up enjoying the beautiful city and landscape most of the time (very touristy, I know). Got quite a few matches on tinder though, but wasn't really in the mood to put in a lot of effort and just invited them over to my place, which they didn't want. If you did put in some effort, however, it should be quite easy to get your SA flag. Black girls' texting can be a real pain in the ass sometimes, with all their weird abbreviations and messages consisting of one word. Some of them even texted me months later when I was back home. Logistics aren't great without a car, but I suppose you could use Uber really cheap (everything is amazingly cheap compared to the west).

End of the story, I will definitely go back to Cape Town, spend more time there and enjoy the girls. I guess it must be awesome to be there in summer, given all the pretty beaches and the quality of girls.
