I really liked the cut of Levi's 514s. Unfortunately I can't wear them at the moment because my thighs are now too thick from doing Starting Strength.

Does anyone know where to get ripped jeans?

I don't really see them anymore in stores being sold new, but I imagine second-hand shops would be the best place to look for that or maybe some smaller boutique stores with specialty denim. Otherwise just make your own holes. I actually did have a pair of jeans with a hole in the knee, but it was done the natural way through years of usage.

Back in my teenage years my mom used to tell me "why do you keep buying ripped jeans? They're so expensive, get a normal pair and rip holes on them yourself!"

Yeah, I'll probably have to expand my search beyond the mall.

Where do you live? I bought a pair of ripped A&F's couple of months ago.

They still sell em.

I live in Texas (Find me on RVF Chat under Dallas), Hollister doesn't sell anymore and I couldn't find them. Well, A&F has only three models and they have small rips.

It's time to hint those boutique places.

I was in Dallas a few months ago and my luggage was lost so I needed a pair of jeans asap.

Skip the malls and go to stores, the blue jean bar was really good. Great selection, really knowledgable staff and some rare brands.

Traffic LA was also great for more fashion-y jeans.

Both are expensive but as with all clothing the high fashion stuff will be more expensive.

Anyone have any suggestions for guys with big thighs? I prefer a wider cut @ the boot as well. Never really dug the "skinny jean" look.

Jean choice should be strongly influenced on how well they sit on you.

Naked and Famous are a good brand for me.

Mavis are another.

Nothing beats classic Levis 501s. I have 3 pairs. 2 for casual, and 1 for work. When they wear out, I re-up.

I wear Express Rocco Slim fits; I think they are nice. You don't have to get the. "Skinny" fit of these either as they have boot cut and straight leg also. Get them on sale though.

Second and third Uniqlo jeans... most people don't realize how huge they are: they were in talks to buy J. Crew until it got leaked and shit blew up. Most of the time, buying cheap shit is actually more expensive because it gets worn out quickly and you have to buy over and over again, but the $20 jeans I bought in 2009 and 2011 are still going strong.

I got some hugo boss jeans on sale a couple of months ago, and Im really liking how they're holding up. Ive worn them almost every day without washing them and they're still in good condition. Also I think the quality of the denim is pretty high, but I'm not really a selvedge expert so I don't know for sure.

I used to wear Diesel jeans almost exclusively (mostly Lemmen, Larkee, Zathiny and Viker) before but with ageing I turned to more classic look and recently bought these Unbranded selvedge jeans (cheap and decent quality) and Levi's 514 (perfect slim straight cut).

Gotta go with AG (Adriano Goldschmied). I'm a bigger guy with solid legs and they're the only thing I've found that gives me the room in the leg I need, look good, and fit in the waist without too much if any tailoring. Plus, Nordstrom Rack gets them all the time so I can look good for half the price of Nordstrom.

My favourite denim brand is no brand

Get running around boutique/vintage shops for a whole day and try on at least 20 pairs of jeans. Then make a shortlist of the best ones and try them on again.

Find the ones that look the best and buy them.

The quality of the denim DOES matter, but the lack of a well-known brand name does not always mean the denim/product is sub-standard. The idea is to learn to inspect the quality of the product yourself rather than having 'all the work' done for you by a brand name at a ridiculous price. If you try on shitloads of jeans from multiple stores you'll iteratively find the perfect pair for you, through prioritizing fit and quality over 'label'.

Every time I go on a mammoth trip to locate the perfect jeans, I see a hoard of guys walking into a single Designer shop and leaving with the first pair they try on, which cost five times the price of mine (and a baggy Lacoste polo shirt to complete the look)

I maintain that if you run around the right area for a day, you can get a fantastic pair of denim jeans for $50. Taipei, Korea and London are perfect for this.

Though to name a shop, Zara have some excellent skinny jeans.

Jeans are an essential part of my wardrobe. I have a few chinos but jeans are the bread and butter. I like to pay top dollar for quality and raw denim that will last me years. I used to be exclusively a Diesel junkie but I have tried out a few other brands which are just as good. Nudie, G Star and Levi's (511/514) get an honourable mention too.

RRL Japanese denim. I three raw pair, that are 5 years old. Two blue, one slim black. They will last for a decade and still look good. One crotch blow out that the RLL store fixed for free.

I have big thighs which creates an odd fit with some labels......I started buying Lucky jeans back in HS and they still usually have styles I like.

I'm not into the wash style in the 1st post though. I prefer a more gentle wash and/or solid color

I'm a fan of Wrangler (cowboy boot cut) when combined with my boots for practical usage. I crawl around under desks running cables and move equipment frequently and they make sure I'm always comfortable.

I like the first pair a lot, the wash and stiching, though the waist is a bit high for my liking. Can't get into the light blue pair. The Diesel is pretty much perfect. How much are those?

Check out Gustin Jeans. Its a company based out of San Francisco. They use crowd sourcing to fund different articles of clothing and different materials. Its not just jeans either, they make shirts, belts, wallets, etc. I have 2 pairs of jeans from them and like them so far. It takes a while though, that's the down side. Pretty much everything gets backed, it just takes a few months to get your stuff because they have to make it first.
