@Chaos I'm not sure I understand what you mean. You felt that sarcasm was received well but irony wasn't by Russian girls? I guess I don't have a very nuanced delineation between the two, but I felt that sarcasm was very often not understood.

When I was living there, I got to the point where if I couldn't resist saying something sarcastic (or maybe ironic?) I did so with a shit eating grin on my face to make sure it was understood I wasn't being serious.

The exception that I noticed was with people who spoke English well or had visited the US /UK, they had a better understanding of Western humor.

The only thing I adjusted in Russia was the whole neg thing. Compliments work. Otherwise I did not change my sense of humor at all and it was fine. I think a lot of it comes down to Russian language ability. It can be hard to be funny in a sophisticated way if you're not fluent, I think.

^ Blunt, good question! Well, first of all I'm not a native English speaker and by all means not an expert in this language so excuse me if I'm not clearifing things enough.

This is how I define it.
Sarcasm is when I mean something completly opposite of what I'm saying.
Irony is when a funny/unpredictable action/happening is taking place and I'm trying to make a joke about it.

This is the best way I can explain it.
I hope this will clarify it for you.

Let us not hijack this thread with some grammar debate.

@Menace Yeah I think you're right, fluency of the language is a big piece. I also think in Moscow they get sarcasm more.

@Chaos That makes sense to me. No worries I have a feeling this will be a 40 pager anyways.

I've been randomly stopped in Moscow and asked for papers. The cops didn't speak English, but their eyebrows raised and their threatening demeanor was dropped when I said I was American. I only had copies of my documents, and my visa was even expired by a day (I was waiting for a new one to arrive). They rattled off some stuff in Russian and the only word I caught was "deportation", then let me go on my way.

I usually only carry copies of all my documents and most places seem to be OK with that, except banks. I guess it should be noticed that Russians have "documents" aka two passports, one for Russia and one for travel. They carry the Russian one like Americans carry a driver's license, for ID purposes. So it's not unusual to carry a passport around, but as a foreigner, I would still carry copies instead.

I got stopped twice in my ~5 years there. Once for jaywalking across the street near Oktyabrskaya. Was coming back from the gym in summer and didn't even have a copy of my passport just my US license (not California btw). Guy let me off with a 1000 ruble fine))

2nd time these cops outside my building stopped me when I was coming home late one weekend night saying I was drunk. Had a copy of my passport and the guy was giving me a hard time saying I was going to jail, etc. I just kept saying I could go get my passport and I worked for a government-owned enterprise and after awhile his buddy just nodded that it was time for them to go so I got off with just a scare.

After my first encounter I walked around only with a copy of my passport...figured it was too much of a risk to have the real one...lot of my friends did the same as the cops can use it as leverage and I was much more worried about losing it versus only having a copy when out and about.

One unexpected issue is that there are too many pretty girls. I hesitate on a lot of approaches because I think "Well she's okay but there are more that are better."

In environments where they are not a lot of pretty girls, I immediately approach when I see one, but here I'm feeling less pressure to act, which overall is bad because it's limiting my effort. I need to consciously keep my standards low.

The too many pretty girls issue is a problem for another reason as well. When are you closing a girl in the club, you may want to consider if it is worth being seen french kissing a girl in the club, as this will burn you with the other girls. Especially in a midsize city where there are only 3 or 4 top clubs, and where a decent portion of the girls go every weekend, this can haunt you if you are staying in the same city for a couple months. My most successful GUS situated friends use the evening more for networking, attraction building etc and then close on the date. Having said that, this strategy is much easier to implement if you are already in the city for a while and if you are with a couple guys, have a table, etc.

Roosh, how often have you been seeing the 'hot girl with ugly or average guy' phenomenon that seems to exist in slavic countries? I see it at least once or twice a day here and it continues to baffle me.

It's the same in the north too. I put it down to Russian girls having a different value system. Looks are near the top of the priority list for Western girls, but for Russians, it's more about character, stability in life (job, housing, car, etc.), and how safe she feels around him.

I actually don't see it as much as I would like. Maybe I'm getting used to how Slavic men look, but here I often see pretty girls with guys I'd rate as "average". I'm not seeing pretty girls with total troglodytes, unfortunately. Of course this means the girls are dating down in terms of looks, but not by a degree that makes you do a double take.

Compare that to DC, where girls are almost always dating up or equal.

I'd rather call a phenomenon when some ugly girls from UK or USA expect to have a men's health model as a bf.

This was a big problem for me over the course of my years there. It's almost like the brain gets confused when offered up so many enticing opportunities. You literally don't know where to begin sometimes. That's not just at the bar/club at night but in all settings including the office, social circle, daygame etc.

Moreover, it seemed to be that almost no guys are really all that 'thirsty' or looking for 'relationships' at least in the beta US sense, so you feel like you have all the time in the world to work things out with a particular girl - and not like 'I'd better get on this or the next guy will swoop it away' like I kind of did in the US (which admittedly was during my more beta days).

In Russia I was passing some stuff up that in retrospect I'd loved to have pursued - this was just because I was thinking along the lines of "meh, she's great but only a 7.25, is looking for a boyfriend etc. and I've got all the time in the world to pursue better girls" etc.

Ouch!
But at least it's a timesaver...no taking numbers and texting and no response bullshit!

As for your reply to girls in the club saying there are so many other pretty girls ,your response:

"Really?Sorry..I didn't notice!"

As for Russian girls mentality and attitudes to Men,money, and sex you'll get some insight by watching Woodmans pre sex interviews with Russian girls mostly 18-25 .
He seems to have their number ..and he ain't pretty!
You can see a lot of them here for nowt :

Has anyone here done the Trans-Siberian Railroad? I'm looking into a trip from Beijing, through Mongolia, and through southern Siberia to Moscow and St. Petersburg. The trip is probably a year away so it'll give me time to brush up on my Russian until then. But any advice/warnings/recommendations on that are appreciated.

Have you watched the Trans-Siberian videos on youtube from "pdrop"? Pretty good. I'd like to do that one day, but only with a small posse of 3-4 dudes. There's some sketchy characters on those trains it looks like.

I'd say you could get away with a quite a large margin here, much more than 10 years. Lots of the girls on mamba that are 18-19 have their profiles showing that they are "looking for guys 35-50". Although that's also just another way of saying they want a rich guy.

I have been in Kaluga 6 weeks....and although you do see an "age gap" from time to time, I have noticed a distinct lack of large age gap couples. However, this is in contrast to when I spent time in Moscow and Kiev......the girls looking for sugar daddies follow the money perhaps to the capital?

Russian women are big money extractors.Of course you get alpha quality but they have advanced demands. No relation to cheap polish etc. They want five star hotels, the best meals, the best cafes and always to visit the best shops. You get very classy women who know how to present themselves and make you look good but you have to pay.
Russian girls want unlimited men men with passions. They do not like western hypocrisy, western logic, stinginess, calculation etc. They tend to byzantinicism and metaphysics. As a whole the West has adopted our ancient classical Greek logic while the Russians have preffered the byzantine mysticism. It is the depth of slavic soul how to explain it in English? They are perfect chameleons.Anyway the slavic situation is very nice they are devoid of any logic in the common sense. It is like unlimited generosity and unlimited offer.

Physically they lack the butterfaces rampant in Poland on the other hand they do not possess the mega breasts and popping asses of polish women. As a whole though their appearance is more elegant due to sharper facial characteristics. They look so to say higher class or city girls while polish women tend to look village girls.Russian women also dress more elegant and sophisticated and know better how to handle men.In general they are presentable. With polish women you run the danger of being laughed up when you present the quality of stock you are dating.Russian women inspire you to higher achievements and boost your ego while polish ones take you down to earth.Slavic blues or general miserabilty is in any case unavoidable.
As all slavic women Russian ones like to date several men simultaneously so to say they like playing with men.The difference to polish ones is that they do not deny doing that while polish ones ramp up a whole lot of lies.Russian girls take for granted that you fuck other girls as well and they are not exclusive. They do not have any remorse because they do the same. They generally regard other slavic girls(polish,Czech etc) as the same(money extractors) but pretending(that they are European etc).Anyway Russian are the real deal the purest experience you can get in slavic world. You run the danger of being destroyed by them if you hunt them a lot on the other hand you may achieve big positions due to the ego boost and achievement folllowing they inspire on you.

I also have to say that communication with Russian girls is instant. They give you the signal[Image: biggrin.gif]o you get it?You answer yes with your eyes and then you are in.They eye fucked me in Berlin airport etc because of that. They know instantly if you get what is going on.

I think as long as you're in your 30s the question doesn't ever even come up.

Once I got into my early 40s I felt I had to fib from time to time when a girl was say 21-24, but since I look younger I got away with it. I'd say up to even 20 years isn't out of the ordinary. A lot of Russian dudes are hitting their stride money-wise in their late 30s and 40s and by then have also gotten divorced and are either on wife #2 (or 3) and/or are inveterate divorcee bachelors back out on the hunt (even @ 50+ saw a lot of that). Some places in Moscow, like Club Prestige, seemed to attract the latter types (and cheatin' wives too!).

Remember a lot of Russian men are dead by 50 so in many ways the question isn't so much age difference with many of these women as it is 'how long will this guy be around anyway?" Sure the girls in their early 20s (who are dying to get married BTW) might make it a bigger issue..but much less so than in the west.

I have done it twice. Both Trans-Siberian and Trans- Mongolian and I've dropped into a whole bunch of smaller cities off the beaten path along the way.
To answer your questions you need more specific about what you want to know.

I could even do a datasheet if there is interest.
