Shorts with dress shoes and socks?

Even I would never do such a thing.

That is much better; a classic summer casual outfit that is easy, comfortable and inexpensive but will still make you look better than 90% of guys. Here's what he does right:

Shorts are the correct length.

Shorts are flat fronted and are not cargo shorts

Shirt is button down, not a t shirt, which tends to look boyish or prole.

Shirt is a thin cotton with a casual cut. More stylish than wearing a dress shirt with shorts.

Casual slipon shoes with no socks.

Nice accessories, including a peacocking bracelet.

Very well done.

I think he is trying to blend a young casual look and an adult casual look but fails miserably. Those shoes and socks are pants only. And that T-shirt just looks terrible.

It seems like a new hipster look. I agree that many men will try but shouldn't.

It's a great example of a sartorial faux pas.

It looks dreadful and should never be done. Either be smart or casual, not both.

Tried this outfit over the weekend and I thought it looked fairly good. I wore navy patterned socks (I think sockless would have been good also), a brown and off-white knitted belt, and a white Timex weekender with a brown leather strap. It was blazing hot and sunny. At night, I just threw on a casual, navy blue sport jacket but kept everything else the same except the weekender which I changed out for a black one but used the same strap.

Navy blue, browns/tans, and white seem to go good with turquoise. Longwing bluchers, in my opinion, add a good high/low combination to an outfit like this. The photos below are not of the exact same items I was wearing, but look fairly close. Costs (all bought on sale except the hat):

Hat- $25
Shirt- 40 (JCrew)
Pants- 40 (JCrew Factory)
Shoes- 65 (Nordstrom 1901s)
Socks- 10 (Express)
Belt- 15 (JCrew)
Timex- 30 (Amazon)
Sport jacket- 45 (American Eagle)

Aside from the Vans, I own everything here.

This is sort of an East Coast uniform though.

I like that shirt, but mostly on other guys. I have tried to pick up similar shirts to that over the years, but they all look weird on me (so I think).

Sites like BlackLapel are essentially knock offs of the whole kickstarter/ white labeling/ 4 hour work week phenomenon. They are mostly the same factories, fabrics and the only thing that changes between these companies is their marketing.

You are better off finding a Hong Kong tailor in your city and getting shirts from them. It might take a bit longer, but my custom shirts now cost me $60, fit me like a glove, I have a choice of 300 some fabrics. They are no different than the $120 BlackLapel type shirts, and only slightly less than my Eton or Thomas Pink shirts. But at $220 a shirt, I will wear those 1/4 of the time I do my Hong Kong shirts.

I just got some stuff from this site: https://bonobos.com/summershop

Fit is great, you don't need to cop the slim. Standard works well.

Bonobos stuff is nice; good fit and quality for the price.

What do you guys think about the shorts with sportcoat look?

I do this look a few times a year, mostly to outdoor parties and other casual events. It's a bit dandyish I admit, but I find it puts me in a fun party mood and I usually end up having a good time. It also peacocks with the IDGAF vibe it puts out and gets a lot of female attention

MrXY, I think that style of clothing is great for the situations you describe, and being on the beach or a boat. But if you're just going about your daily business I don't think it's suitable for a mature guy, too poser-ish, in my opinion.

I totally agree; that's why I wanted to make clear it's special events only wear when you know there's going to be a party vibe. I would never dress like that on a normal day. But it works great in the right situation.

I personally think it makes the person look like an idiot.
First you have a sportscoat, which is a thin line between formal and informal. Then you have the shorts and boat shoes which are on the far end of informal. It looks like it's trying too hard to look cool (The guy with the sportscoat and vest is clearly trying to hard).
Also, I don't like the look of uncovered legs and covered arms. I dont think its aesthetic.

Yes - I would swap those sunglasses for some wayfarers or something as well.

Looks to me like he already has socks on, some strange coloration on those.

That salmon color seems to go well with those blue pants. Perhaps if his shoes were the same color as his hat the hat would look better?

He's trying to rock the hipster doofus look and failing.

The worst offense is the t shirt; it looks like his older, larger brothers's handmedown with the next stretched out.

John Lennon sunglasses and 1895 mustache are pussy dehydrators.

Pants are too short; showing some ankle in summer pants is ok but those are too much

The loafers aggravate me; they just don't look right with that outfit.

Sport coat looks good.

I actually like the hat; appears to be a Leghorn style which is great for summer

If he put on a tight t shirt or casual button down under the jacket, lengthened the pants 3/4", wore light summer boots or maybe tan monkstraps , Persol sunglasses, and face stubble, and the hat, he could sit at the cafe and get some female attention

The shoes are good enough, but they seem to be popular with people who like to wear them in a weird(unconventional) way, often the same way as that guy.

I guess, I will never understand the "style" with a sport coat and shorts.

I think it is anyway pretty hard for a man to look good in shorts. I just wear them when I do sports, stay at a beach or something like that.

The best way to go for warmer weather is a nice looking chino with a shirt or a polo. Of course the pants should have the right length and not be too long.

I have a linen jacket in that salmon color. It is a great color.
with this look the guy will slay in Den Haag [Image: banana.gif]

It would look better with white pants and a white shirt.

Shirt is sloppy, would trade it out for a wife beater, a fitted V neck, polo, etc. Pants too short.

the white blazer is so $$ when you own it.

two of the hottest girls i ever banged were when i was wearing my white blazer. when i asked them after why they liked me, they both mentioned because they thought i was so handsome (i'm a good-looking guy but usually don't get strong praise like that). then i pressed further and asked if it was the blazer and they said that it was.

also have had girls ask my friends to introduce me to them when i didn't even talk to them. pretty sure the blazer had something to do with it cuz that doesn't normally happen to me lol.

if you don't own it, it can backfire though... it's basically peacocking.

@Rungood inc- Yessir. I got the most looks I've ever gotten. I had girls holding hands w/their BFs do the double-back. Pretty funny.

Dope clothes truly make the man.

I've picked up some amazing pieces. Mostly mint 2nd-hand stuff from somebody else. I think I end up paying 20% of retail. Its now do-able instead of outrageous.

Really stoked. I am dropping a grip on tailoring to tighten up the chest and waist. Think it comes out to 70/30 clothes to tailoring. My tailor must be happy for all the repeat business.

Heres whats in the pipeline:

1) Etro tan cotton suit w/lime green pick stiching. St. Patricks green leaf and red striped interior. Ultra subdued sickness!

2) E. Zegna Trofeo linen sportscoat (gray w/reddish overcheck). Functional cuffs. Fabric is dope. Nicest hand I've seen on a linen blend.

3) E. Zegna Milano fit (soft shoulders) dark gray plaid. Functional cuffs. Staple sportscoat

4) E. Zegna Roma fit Navy blazer (way roomier in chest and waist) half-lined sportscoat. Functional cuffs. MOP buttons. Micronsphere technology- water runs off the suit. I am really tightening this one up. Its going to get a lot of wear year-round.

I've been eyeing this Corneliani flax(linen) sportscoat- cream w/reddish brown check, but still hesitant on pulling the trigger.

My battle armor is about to be so sick that it can swoop girls by itself. Really looking forward!

Ill throw up pics when I get up and running on it.

I think I've swooped 5 girls just off that white seer-sucker outfit.

My tailor tailored a bunch of my stuff but I think his client is mostly older people. I sent it back for corrections

He got brought in the chest/shoulder area, but the waist area was very poorly defined (probably fear of bringing it in too much).

I have a 18.5 inch shoulder length, 42 chest and a 33 waist.

Anybody else like me? What other brands do you like?
