Ayahuasca and the body

When I was in Colombia I mostly stayed in Bogotá but visited number of tourist cities where I'd stay in cheap hostels.

In Salento I met some British and Aussie guys who were telling the guys and girls in the hostel about their ayahuasca experience they went through in the Amazon.

One major thing they droned on about is how they 'discovered themselves', and how they have a new outlook. In the next sentence they told us about how they vomited and shit all over themselves due to the drug.

At the end of the day they were fucking losers, dirty & broke degenerates, not a penny to their name nor a girl at their side. If they were in a discovered and enlightened stage when I met them then they've evidently discovered that they are true losers and are embracing it fully.

Living in the poorest slums of Colombia's coast by choice and being left behind by the world.

If you want to discover yourself purchase and complete 30 days of discipline from Victor Pride at http://www.boldanddetermined.com you're guaranteed to become better and more satisfied whereas with such a psychedelic drug more than likely you'll become another degenerate man child that needs a nappy change. Take responsibility for your own happiness and development rather than hoping that an experience of shitting your pants will change you.

I like how you focus on the gastric experiences of a couple of twacked out aussie guys and extrapolate it onto thousands of years' wisdom and medical knowledge, then shit on the thread with a shameless plug for some book we don't want.

Ayahuasca and the body

I'll be doing Ayahuasca in an indigenous community in Ecuador on the 13th of September (full moon). I'll report back here.

One of the main reasons for me personally though is not to hallucinate and find enlightening (although I would welcome it), but to cleanse the body completely. Ayahuasca kills many malicious things in the stomach/bowels, such as parasites for instance. Hence the vomiting is seen as evil leaving the body. Knowing this, I will welcome the pain as it will make me stronger, then in this mindset, I hope to reach some mental state of clarity, however it is not as common as people think here. A group of 10 people here that I know went some weeks ago and out of 10, 8 went bad. None of them had very strong hallucinations. The indians said that it is normal for a first time ayahuasca that it is just cleansing the body, the second time you will feel better and be able to experience more interesting mental effects.

Good luck. When I had my ayahusca trip, I puked 10-15 times. Worth it [Image: biggrin.gif]

The trip definitely changed my life. Well, I actually took shrooms, ecstacy and whatnot later but all of them together with my openings of the mind, I turned into god.

All I am saying is that awakening is real. It is losing all of the linguistic illusion. All of the ideas and acting you have created for yourself.

I used to be this masculinity/success monkey. I was trying to be a man and trying to be successful. This is what everyone is doing here lol. Everyone is trying, not being. "self-improvement" rofl. There is no improving. I no longer am trying to do anything. I am a man. I am successful. I am it.

How do I feel? No shame. No insecurity. No uncertainty. JUST CLARITY. I used to try to be the man who picks up women and has sex with them. This "man" was an idea, not myself. Self-improvement ultimately creates an idea of a person, and you become an actor trying to imitate it. This is a crazy thing to say, but I am now is what people consider "natural" with women. Words mean jack shit anymore(they are all lies). I see the medium now, not the message. Who cares about the message because it is only lies.

Ayahuasca(and other psychedelics) CAN BE a window to your awakening but not the door. The door you have to find inside yourself.

Strength Student- really enjoying your posts and your blog! You have some really interesting ideas to share. I just added Zen Devil to the blogroll on my own little site. Keep it up!

I'm headed to Peru next year to try Ayahuasca myself and see what all the fuss is about. Can't wait.

Never done Ayahuasca, and not sure I want to. I've read about it quite a bit and studied some vids. Terrence McKenna and what not.

Not sure I could handle the puking. Then again, that doesn't stop me from going to the pub on a summer's day and drinking 8 pints then drinking 2 bottles of wine when I get home.

Mind expanding drugs, like war and revolution, are a young man's game really. Choose your battles well. I do these days. I have to.

I don't see what kind of revelation or experience A can give you that LSD or MDMA can not. Ok, I know they are all different. I probably would do it, but I wouldn't seek it out. If I was in the right place at the right time with the right people, I'd give it a crack.

Would I travel half way across the world and spunk my hard earned just to pretend to be a shaman for a few hours? I think not. I'd rather hire a motorbike and trek around North Africa. One is more dangerous than the other. But you are unlikely to die doing either. And one lasts longer than the other. And will probably give you better stories to bore your grandchildren with.

'Oh I remember that time i was off my head and puked for five hours constant, what a hoot that was little minnie, you must try it some time when you grow up!'.

Ok, the alternative is:
'Oh I remember that time in Tunisia, just after getting robbed at the border. Our motorbikes broke down and we nearly died of thirst in the middle of the desert'.

They both will bore your grandchildren to death, but only one of them makes them have more respect for you. That is all you can ask.

Incidentally, when I ask about it, I get horseshit answers like this:

"Ayahuasca... It's amazing for healing and growth. It's really important to do the work with a practiced facilitator or shaman. It's critical to diet before you journey, & prepare your mind and body as best you can. ONLY do this if you are being CALLED by Spirit. If your ego is saying this is a good idea, maybe because you heard it was a good idea, I strongly encourage you to check your assumptions. Not done right, this medicine could Kill you... It can also Save your life. If you know in your heart that it is speaking to you, then by all means, go down the rabbit hole... One last time, this plant is a valuable teacher, respect it, & respect yourself..."

Actually this guy did say he'll get back to me by Sunday with some real information. I'm not holding my breath.

These are valid enough points, communicated in the lingo of your typical semi-flakey new age type in modern day America.

Obviously these people think you are wanting to take Ayahuasca for the wrong reasons, and don't think you are ready. But often the brews you take in the west are not that strong anyway. Keep talking to people, be patient and someone will give you contact I'm sure.

Shockingly enough, the guy came through. I'm doing it tonight.

I also talked about "preparation." Part of this is ensuring you don't have any alcohol or medications in your body. I don't drink, so that helped big time.

Red meat consumption or lack thereof is also a factor.

Ayahuasca and the body

Great thread!

I been lurking since the beginning of thread.

My interests in ayahuasca begin with Graham Hancock and McKenna. After years of listening podcast and researching.

I decide it was something worth trying in dealing this ptsd along and my soul searching.

I book my flight to Lima with few places in my mind. It was either Cusco or Iquitos. Cusco was better for tourists reasons but i rather deal with locals instead over gringos price gouging.

The Machu Piccadilly site was so captivating. I decided to wait before paying for at one retreats and talk with fellow travelers on the ground.

I saw two Canadians 2nd day at the hostel near the airport. I didn't even have to ask the two where they had been an eternal bliss was so evident and undeniable.

I had to know where
These guys look like they kiss the face of god!

I learn two things

1. Person must be mentally and physically prepared. ( fasting-meditation etc)

2. I need to do at least four ceremonies.

So I went to the largest city in the world with no roads. ( Iquitos)

My last minute planning gave me few options.

I email Doris from garden of the light and book my ticket at starperu at less than $175 rt from Lima.

This Amazonian (literally) 6ft) of a woman pick me from airport. While talking to her in the back seat of the cab. She says slower her English is not that good and then pointed at the guy in passenger seat the Shaman.
This little guy (had been quite the whole time)then turns around and says "I know why you here" and starts telling me things about my life and health (incredibly accurate) that shock and awe me in perfect english.

That he learn himself in short time. (which very few shamans can speak). The guy is highly intelligent, clairvoyant or super intuitive more 3 occasions it felt like he reading my mind. We ate and talked then they drop me off at the hotel. The next day we drove about 2 hours from the city another town along the river and a 2 hour boat ride to the lodge.

The lodge isn't extravagance by any means maybe like a old cabin.

There no hot water no electricity except for generator.

There is no cell phone signal you completely off the grid.

During the day i mostly fish (catfish, piranha) or reading.

We spent a lot time in the boat sightseeing different animals of the rainforest. ( pink dolphins, monkeys you name it)
Ceremonies

I did 4 ceremonies the during my week in the jungle. Frankly, I didn't receive any major hallucinations or vision like others have experience just minor ones and beautiful colors a belly ache along with diarrhea.

Second one a gave me burning sensation in my stomach and sluggish feeling. ( I feel purged the next day)

Third one I chugged it down like a tequila shot. He then rub 3 different oil on me and began blowing smoke in my face then start chanting. After the ancient ritual was over. We heard some commotion and foot steps. (He said it was spirits)

The last ceremony was with 3 British guys who throwing up all over the place. I know nothing was going happen that moment because ayahuasca didn't have a affect on me like it did them so I went to bed to rest for that early morning flight.

I felt a state of spiritual blessedness when arrive to Lima. It was not a problem for me to be still be in the moment at that park in Miraflores.

After few days things started dwindling in the city so I left Peru and travel to other countries before deciding to come back USA.

This transformation influx had start in the Amazon but I didn't get myself adequate time or place to process it. I really couldn't fully enjoy in places like Panama city, bocas del toro or CR.

The thing about ayahuasca and my time spent in the jungle it gave me insight on a deeper level that I'm just now coming to terms with this present day. I have whole new out look on life. I've got rid of many bad habits and add positive ones.

My experience is very close to David Beckham Into The Unknown. Except, He had a motorcycle for the trip. I had ayahuasca

Ayahuasca and the body

Ok my Ayahuasca experience! Let me see if I can put that in words..

I've been living for some time here in Ecuador and as such I'm lucky to have many contacts. One of them hooked me up with a contact with the Tsachilas, an indigenous group of people, known for their ability to cure and their longevity, living in various parts of the country. The contact in question was a young man in his late twenties who was a shaman and who did, among other things, ayahuasca ceremonies.

I travelled to the city of Santo Domingo, at about 3 hours from Quito and from there I took a taxi for 20 minutes to get to the indian reservate where the ceremony would take place. It was me and 4 others + the shaman who would participate (he takes it as well every time). We arrived at about 9 and the ceremony would start at 12 so we had lots of time to talk.

I arrived nervous I have to admit. I had limited experience in psychedelic drugs and the one I remember most was a shroom trip gone horribly wrong (due to the worst of luck). I also did my research and I knew Ayahuasca was no joke. This could be life altering so my mind was racing about what was about to happen.

In this regard the talks I had before where a blessing. My shaman had done ayahuasca over 200 times, another guy present there over 50 times as well. They knew what was up. They explained how it was almost always positive. They see it as a cleansing tool, cleansing both for mind and body. And if you look at the science behind it they are right as well. The shaman told me how he would also take it, so that when someone goes bad he will take away the negative energy and endure it himself. He also spoke about how important the group is. If one goes bad or goes mental it can affect all of the group, with a trigger effect. Because of this, big groups are never a good idea and the presence of a shaman is essential.

We talked about the indigenous community. How they do not reveal their secrets to outsiders concerning plant medecine out of fear of the money industry, that could ruin everything. How they hardly ever sleep. How cancer is not known among them, they simply do not get it (many scientists come to research this fact). They live long and healthy lives and they try to not mix too much with nearby civilization knowing all the dangers it holds; dangers in food, in philosophy, in work, ... These people have absolutely no envy towards western society, instead they sort of pity them for the fact that they lost touch with nature and with theirselves and that this makes them sick and also causes them to destroy what is essential in life.

The cool thing was that the shaman was a guy like many of us. He is a social young guy, who likes parties, drinking and girls as well as travelling and broadening his mindstate, but at the same time he lives a very different live due to his cultural background. He is different in this way as he does not live as sheltered as the elders of these indigenous groups. He tasted both sides and knows what is good and what is bad.

Know enough about that, lets get to the Ayahuasca.

As said before here, all depends on your mindstate and your ego. At the time we started the ceremony, I was completely relaxed due to the talks I had and the positive stories I heard. I felt good to take on a new thing in life. The shaman started chanting, slapping leaves on our heads and about 20 min in we received a bowl of the ayahuasca mix. It tasted bad, but more like medicine bad than the foul taste of drugs.

About 15 min in, the first people left the 'temple' and went outside to puke. I was still feeling good, even smiling and feeling great to have the chance to clear my system like that, since I was having stomach problems since pretty much all my life. The shaman ordered us to go outside and look for a tree. I found one and as soon as I reached it, I knew why he commanded that. The puking started.

After some puking and a bit of walking everyone pretty much sat down in a spot where they would remain the whole night, eyes closed. Ayahuasca is in the head, in your own mind and this was for me the biggest difference with shrooms. With shrooms I would see many things, but in the outside world. With ayahuasca I would travel inside myself.

At this point I realized how extremely important it is to not eat anything. I had eaten one vegetable soup (with chunks) that day and it was already bothering me (Ayahuasca is a laxative). In my head I started going on a travel through sort of a scenery of stars with strange visuals, colours and imaginations. You become emotional. The people that matter to you in life will appear and you will reflect intensively on them. In a way, I still had control, because when things appeared that I didnt want to think about, I made them dissapear. For instance, girlswise I avoided thinking to much about that aspect of my life. Living the life of many here, enjoying many girls, you realize at a point like this that to be in complete peace with your actions is not as easy. Inner game I guess becomes tested and for me the morality issue with girls is always a difficult one and not one I wanted to take on on this trip. The family was the point of peace for me. At this point I was still very happy although physically it was horrendous. In total I had about 10 puking sessions, most with nothing coming out since I fasted. I also had to use full mind power to not shit myself (the very little that I could shit) and I succeeded but the downside is that with the physical incoveniences it makes it harder to fully surrender to the drug.

In your mind you will see layers and you can surrender pretty much to reach deeper levels. It depends though. For me, I would get to a certain point where I was about to lose all control and then my ego would step in. Inevitably. I would tell myself to go in deeper but it was not possible. Fear somewhat combined with trying to gain physical control would prevent me journeying further. At this point in, you cant really move anymore, except for turning sideways to puke, and talking will become difficult as well. Others in the group had in life hallucinations, seeing animals etc. A common thing is to see a tiger/panther which is the gatekeeper of nature or a snake, which represents darkness in your life. About 3 hours in the effects start to become weaker. Others stopped puking, I kept on going but you are somewhat relieved that you got through this and although you are still visualizing lots of things, you gain peace of mind realizing the end is near.

All in all, I went in with a positive mindstate and kept that through most of the ritual. At times when you go in very deep, it becomes frightening, I understand why they say most people only will get the positive effects a 2nd or third time in, when you know better how to relax. The message I got from this was two ways. Mentally I learned about things that really matter in life, I gained a connection to the heart I'd say that I lack in everyday life. For me this experience wont be lifechanging I think as I already was very satisfied with how things were going. But I do understand people saying how they take on things differently and how they make strong changes due to the clarity they had under ayahuasca. Physically I purified my body of all the shit that was inside. I puked the most of all in my group so it mustve been significant. Worms, parasites, fungus, etc. they are not the best friends of ayahuasca. For me this was the most important part but that depends on your personal state.

The best was yet to come however. The days after, I felt a clarity of mind which is just fantastic. I had complete peace of mind. My stomach was great, my limbs and muscles werent sour anymore and I thought clearer than ever. I found that I was more kind to people, more in touch with everything. You enjoy going for a walk were before you wouldnt even think anything of it.

Long term effects I will report on later if there are any.

To finalize: yes it can be a great thing, but it is powerful, you must respect it and I agree it is not for everyone. If you want to do it; prepare yourself, physically and mentally!!

If anyone goes to the same region as me and want the contact of the shaman, PM me.

Ayahuasca and the body

Two more things:

The day after I went with the shaman to take a walk and see the area he was living in, utter wilderness filled with many exotic trees and plants. He explained me the medical use of many of these and it really makes you realize how fucked up some of the medical industry is. I do believe that for every disease there is an antidote in nature, but either we dont see it yet or power and money interests prevent us from seeing them.

I also asked him about the dangers about ayahuasca and he said that it can kill people. He heard stories of black shamans, mostly in Peru, who would lure tourists in and give them an overdose, which would sometimes kill them. The idea behind this is black magic. These shamans believe they will extract the energy from the people and that this energy will be added to themselves, making them more powerful. Don't worry though, this is extremely rare, just get some references of your shaman beforehand.
